- Two Chicago men are accused of firing guns illegally at a shooting-range because they are convicted felons. Jarvis Bell, 26, and Ricky Jones, 34, appeared before Cook County Judge John Mahoney on felony charges of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
According to the complaint, Jarvis and Bell were accompanied by a friend with a valid FOID card to the Eagle Sports Range in Oak Forest, around 6:15 p.m. Sept. 7. The prosecutor said the friend rented a weapon for the three to use, and proceeded to the range area. After shooting for a while, the prosecutor said Jarvis, Bell and their friend went back and rented another gun.
A Chicago police officer familiar with Jarvis and Bell's backgrounds, notified Oak Forest police of the convicted felons' unlawfully handling a gun at the shooting-range on security video cameras, the prosecutor said. Bell and Jarvis were arrested by Chicago police officers on Sept. 23 on felony gun charges. The friend with the valid FOID card was not charged.
The judge was appreciative:
- Mahoney set bail on the new charge at $20,000.
"No guns means no guns," Mahoney said.

Mahoney was a Special Prosecutor and Financial Crimes Prosecutor. We worked on a case together and he got the guy 27 years. We spent a few after work hours at Duggan's. He has always been pro-police.

Why, that's only a use of facts and logic. In our sanctuary city we rule by "feelings" and political correctness. We can't be interfering in the social mores and folkways of oppressed minorities. Besides, the breakdown of the "old order" will only help with the installation of the progressive, communist future.

I hope you are not a copper. If you are a copper then shame on you. The intent of the foid holder is very difficult to prove.
I applaud these gentlemen's efforts. They are trying to break away from the "spray and pray". They are trying to improve their chances of getting a one shot stop. Besides, this is a clear case of entrapment. The guy renting the guns keeps a few Glocks in the case with gun sites and lasers glued to the side of the weapon, a clever ruse.

The agreement was controversial. Former-Superintendent of the CPD, Garry McCarthy, stated in December 2015 that, “I acquiesced to it because, you know, I’m trying to work with [the ACLU], [and] they’re trying to work with us.”
Why are you crowing over those two? You could certainly nab hundreds just by going over felons' and associates' social media looking for all the pics they take of themselves and each other with guns they're forbidden to touch. Judges could revoke their parole on the basis of screenshots.
The felon-in-possession law is also federal, right? Put this in front of Federal judges and you remove Foxx, Preckwinkle and Lightfoot from the process.
Seriously, if you're not doing something so easy, you're ignoring one of law enforcement's best tools: the tendency of dumbasses to self-incriminate.

Give or take $10, that’s around a $70 outing for someone with an FOID and doesn’t own a pistol, which is about half of what a Taurus or Hi Point in the Used cabinet would cost.
Were the two supposed to be just observers? House should have rules on this.
Gotta wonder, was this some live practice for these two and what we’re the grouping like.

You are not required to do so by law. "Good ranges" do so to stay out of trouble and avoid situations like this, not because it is the law.

Hundreds of Felons have legal FOID cards in illinois. To be exact as of Nov. 2017 / 3186 Felons have valid FOID cards. As of 2019.
1198 also have concealed carry cards.
The applicant must not have been convicted of a forcible felony under the laws of Illinois or any jurisdiction within 20 years of the application, or 20 years must have passed since the applicant was last imprisoned on a forcible felony conviction;

at my range, im well known and they know my backround and where i live. cant touch anything without them looking closely at my foid every time. even if i see the same person twice in a day and we are on a first name basis. also they have posted a no cell phone policy because it might be straw purchasers shopping for someone back home. ive seen numerous people turned away. guess they want to keep their license. that store in oak forest got cleaned out at night shortly after they opened, now, yes now, they have a watchman. they better watch out, it wont take much these days to get an evil gunstore closed down.

First, went in and applied when they were still building,scab labor everywhere and and a dime west side girl in low jeans and a high top at the counter.The owner appeared shady and looked like I had seen him as the owner of a west side corner grocery ( looked him up later and I was close). He blew a lot of smoke about food.billiards room and high end gentlemen's type establishment. I retired with a star and two bars and my instructors credentials are top shelf,he paid no attention and couldn't get me out of there fast enough when he found out I was retired from LE.I didn't get offended as I kicked myself for not turning around when I walked in.Found out later he was a shill and the money men are middle eastern with lots of suspicious cash.
Second, the gun range biz in this area has been full of places that were going to be high end restaurant/bar attached places with nice clean family ranges, I have been to successful ones in Arizona and down south but they never work in this area .People with more money than brains get talked in to the idea by fast talkers who have big ideas with somebody else's money. None of them have worked out and after a bit of time and a lot of loss begin to cater to what's walking in the door and guess who has liquid 100$ bills for a day at the range? Next thing you know it's a shithole !
There are a couple nice ranges in the area with reputable owners but not many. The small guy is gone and was put to sleep by regulations,costs and the new franchise type ranges.The suburban commandos will pay5K but want to sleep in a cabin and play Ranger in the woods for a weekend out of state,coppers want to button up and the working shooter can't afford to go too often.Nobody will pay for training as everybody is born a pistolaro and can't be taught anything..just ask them.
I worked in it for years and it has only become worse,stopped teaching anyone but friends and family and learned freight logistics from my son,rather deal with truckers.Gun shops are a dirty little business and for every good person on either side of the counter there are three that you wouldn't take home to meet the family.
Not to excuse the bums for picking up guns after being convicted of felonies, but really?
With all of the illegal guns out there on the city streets? I guess that's what we've come down to here in the CPD...low hanging fruit looks as good (on paper) as going out there on the streets and picking up felons on our city's streets.

Sounds like youre a disgruntled midnight PO. Maybe you should focus your energy on DUIs or working the front desk complaining about how miserable you are.
