- Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson is expected to later this week announce he will retire as the city’s top cop, sources said.
His departure would be announced as city Inspector General Joseph Ferguson continues to investigate an incident into police officers finding Johnson asleep in his car last month after he had a few drinks earlier in that evening.
The disclosure about his future comes a day after he told reporters at City Hall he was contemplating retirement but insisted he wasn’t stepping down because of the ongoing inspector general investigation.

Expect the resignation to come just before the "investigation" is set to be released, so that there can be additional "delays" in releasing the video. After all, if it's merely administrative in nature (rather than criminal) then there's no need for the public to see the video and by golly, you'll just have to FOIA the tape and we'll get back to you in a year or two.

Buying a condo 17 years ago was not easy. It was kind of impractical but we did it. We rented it out and it worked out nice. We’ve collected pure profit from renters for the past three and a half years now from constant rentals. Now we will live in Michigan where our kids who are all college age and beyond are already living and plan on staying in Phoenix and Florida off and on throughout the year. When the properties are not in use we will softly rent them out to get some fun money and money to put toward yearly taxes and utilities. Plan, plan, plan. We’re on a gravy train with biscuit wheels.. take everything for time and save and plan. 8 hours OT today will be worth double or more when you retire. LAPD has already been through the Federal decree and the LAPD has a good reputation as well as a much lower crime rate and a better homicide clearance rate then Chicago. For all those people that are whining about who our next superintendent maybe, think about this; would you prefer Chief Beck from L.A., an outsider who you don’t know but may bring better things to out department, or Barb West, the idiot you do know, who wouldn’t know policing to save her life? As long as I have been on this job, people have always whined about who our superintendent has been. We have never had everyone completely happy and never will. But if we think outside the box and think about the horrible choices we have within our own department (like West, Carter, Waller, Valadez, etc) it only makes sense to give someone that we don’t know a chance.
Notice how the reporter uses the phrase "after he had a few drinks", presenting Johnson's version of things. I suspect if the reporter were less positively biased towards Johnson, he would have used the phrase, "after he had been drinking".

My Opinion,
I am a retired Deputy Chief from CPD and served for 33+ years.
I strongly believe bringing an individual from outside CPD to be the Superintendent is a terrible mistake doomed to failure!
An outsider does not know the culture nor the individuals he would be working with. An outsider will immediately have to lean on individuals currently employed at CPD for advice and guidance. These individuals might and might not be part of the problem or part of the solution.
I strongly recommend that the the Mayor consider recently retired Commander Mark Buslik to become the next Superintendent. He had an excellent reputation with all of the communities he came into contact with, is very innovative, well spoken, respected across the board by current members of CPD and is a strong supporter of the Democratic party, which is an anomaly for members of law enforcement.
I believe his appointment would be supported by all of the stakeholders.

And not every cop that comes to work and actually does something is automatically a suck-ass, a 2 year wonder, a hair gel, a tactical Barbie, or someone gunning for a spot as the blue jean police. Believe it or not, some of us go to work and do the best we can and we actually like our job and are proud of our commitment, even to those who sometimes don’t deserve it.

Okay, so your strategy is what exactly? Go out and vote come election time for our next Superintendent like we have some choice or control in the matter? My original point was that I'm tired of the doom and gloom about how the next goof Supernintendo is going to be any worse then Ed. I can't see him or her being much worse considering we are now swiping in and out for 9 hour tours, wearing body cams, tazers that can get us in more trouble if we use them, GPS in the squad cars, and eventually everyone will be expected to carry and use that narcan crap to help out these drug addicts. Many of your points are well stated and rooted in common sense. However to belittle someone's different viewpoint as being that of someone too dumb to do anything else, is pretty childish. I will have you know some of the smartest people I know are police officers who got on the job prior to the useless college decree requirement and many never obtained anything more than their hs diploma. You sound a bit self righteous.
Heres a little history/perspective in reference to the increase in education requirements. It wasnt an effort to develop a "smarter" police force. It was a knee jerk reaction to back to back corruption scandals of rogue criminal cops. The thought process was that college educated recruits would have a different mindset and there stop these types of scandals from reoccurring. There was a clear tradeoff for that change. You sacrificed street smarts for book smarts. For police work, street smarts is a much more useful and practical skill set to have. This isnt to say education doesnt have its place or isnt useful because it does actually add a level of understanding to the street smart cop. Insulting "laughing at you" is an insult to those of us who do not have college degrees and could demolish most graduates in a game of wits and common sense any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Lastly I will leave you this to ponder, all of today's current brass have those fancy college degrees. You really think they are better leaders because of them? If you do then I think you might have been drinking the same booze ed was drinking last month.

Riccio can leave comfortable with a great pension, anyone not able to live on over $ $200.000 dollars will never be able to retire. I'm a retired Sergeant making 95,000 along with some little pick and choose part time jobs bringing another 25,000 and live good. NO BILLS, SUBURBAN HOUSE, NEW CAR. So I dont think he will be in a soup line.

Marijuana is still illegal at the Federal level.
ATF form 4473 specifically reminds you of this.
If you answer truthfully your purchase is denied.
If you answer no I don't use any illegal drugs you have committed perjury.
Considering what Prickster thinks of guns don't be surprised when the dispensary customer list are leaked to the ATF.
You can resign anytime you want. BUT, if you retire and are not in good standing with your dept, (i.e. and open CR) then you are not eligible for retirement credentials or IROCC

The mayor wants to get rid of every copper with less than 10 years on. That's why in the contract HER big "gift" to the rank and file will be out at 50 with medical....nothing else...no raises...no retro...zilch. And look for more levels of "Accountability and discipline.

I hope not, Rialmo simply showed up to an everyday job and is now fired. How does his fellow officers show their support for him? Foot chases, blue cards, gun arrests, ANOVs, parkers, movers....... I think what the “Laughing At You” means is stop going above and beyond and take a stand Department and rank wide. Some arrests you have to make and morally should make. Hate to say it but he/she is right. And “Laughing at you” you don’t have to be a dick about it, most of us get it.
