Numerous 10th district cars are flying eastbound down Ogden at WARPspeed to join the pursuit. Helicopter is requested by this unit and the helicopter responds because he happens to be flying around zone Ten on an event. Somebody asks what the vehicle is wanted for and guess what the response was?? Wait for it ... wait for it ...

It’s at that point the sergeant with the unit terminates the pursuit. The fly boys obviously never got the message because about 10 minutes later they say they lost the vehicle downtown in the tall buildings.

I’m retired and wondering what “Staples” your talking about. I know I worked for Melissa Staples as my Sgt. and then my Lt. in Area Four and that “Staples” is the real deal. She is smart and has more courage than many cops whom I have encountered on this job. She learned from JF and never forgot those lessons.

Yes, you are right on this. But, most of the exempts when they retire have great resumes with entries on units and divisions that they commanded, training and education that most people never see. But, there is a catch. Most of them are incompetent and it quickly shows up if they enter private industry. So, they, if they have a connection strong enough, head for other government jobs. I have known more then one deputy chief of Asst Dep Supt. to fall flat on their face in private industry ( in more then one case head of security at one of our museums) and end up sitting in a bar drinking

The LAPD went through this under Beck, so he knows what needs to be done. By all accounts, LAPD is not as influenced by politics and patronage as the CPD and their promotion system is pretty good. The one thing that never seems to be mentioned in the media about CPD, is exactly that, the patronage, the racial politics and the cronyism. This department long has been run on the cheap; poor facilities, vehicles and equipment, poor training and a corrupted promotion and assignment system. Maybe that will change, and maybe not. Reform is needed and that is the real reform.

I just read the book “Sarge”, by the late detective Sgt. John DiMaggio. Interesting book. It starts out with the O.W. Wilson years. Riccio’s father is mentioned as one of the author’s partners, and a good driver. It has interesting info on the Percy homicide. Better then ABC’s Chuck. On the first day in the academy in 1986, all the instructors came up to little “Eddy Munster”, Riccio, and told him what a great boss his father was. He made group commander and hasn’t had a bad day on the job since. I would be a nice guy too if I had that clout.

As far as the Sgt. leaving early you have LIED again because we ALL swipe in and out everyday, nobody is swiping for anyone else, we are already fighting for our jobs.

Agree with most of this post. The Captain is fine and one of the better bosses I've met during my career. Not an idiot like a lot of current captains. If you need to talk to a ranking supervisor so badly then you are a little goofy. Sgt Wisconsin Dells, on the other hand, is annoying and very shakey. Gets scared really easy like he has two years on the job. Someone should explain to him that no matter how much he micro manages, he's not going to get reinstated anytime sooner. My guess is he is merit via LAPA.

Deputy Chief Steve Georgas is just as bad as the rest of them, difference is, he had connections to cover up his stupidity. To the person who slammed 376, be thankful for an old school boss who helps and treats us all with respect. Unlike the last boss who was micromanaging and overbearing. We have all had our fair share of terrible bosses this is one of the last pro police bosses left in the dept who doesn't owe anyone anything but will help you in any way possible. Get off your high horse.

I gotta say,. I worked with Riccio was back in the 80's and he was nice as could be. Did something happen to him through the years? He's got to be at 30 years don't know about hie age. You'd think by now he'd want to retire and go fishing or sit on a beach. All this bullshit can't possibly be worth it. If he's dreaming of the supers spot that is NEVER going to happen.

I just read the book “Sarge”, by the late detective Sgt. John DiMaggio. Interesting book. It starts out with the O.W. Wilson years. Riccio’s father is mentioned as one of the author’s partners, and a good driver. It has interesting info on the Percy homicide. Better then ABC’s Chuck. On the first day in the academy in 1986, all the instructors came up to little “Eddy Munster”, Riccio, and told him what a great boss his father was. He made group commander and hasn’t had a bad day on the job since. I would be a nice guy too if I had that clout.

Say what you want about Riccio but as far as I know he was NEVER MERIT (ya, aside from his exempt promotions I get it) and he's the one at the top who is on our side. add to that he has a lot of experience in the D unit if that's worth anything.
Melissa put everyone in the D. CPD's number were far better before she took over. With the exception of him having Wodnicki promoted, Chief Eugene Roy was great for the D. You should have learned from him than you doing everything to stack your people everywhere. Look at the backgrounds of the Sergeants she brought in.

Captains are appointed , most were merit Lieutenants

Ozzie and Wodnicki are both goofs, but STAPLES did more damage to the detective division only second to that know-it-all Irish prick Mccarthy. FACT!

LOL. What rock have you been living under? Seriously? WTF did Gene Roy every do for the D? Answer: Nothing.
Did he build a Police Shooting Team, SOMEX Teams, Tech Rooms or a Jail Team? Answer: No.
Gene Roy was all about Gene Roy. He left the D in shambles and left Staples with a shit show.
And for the record, Staples did not put Lisa Starks in Area South. Learn the game people, she has only had a handful of picks and we all know who they are. Kelly, Carr, Crain, and Vasquez in South. Not Starks.
I am not totally against merit. I believe merit should be earned, not given.A one time earned merit bump in a person's career. However when people complain, and say the Feds need to investigate the merit process, and how the politically connected are always getting promoted, and how the Acting superintendent needs to put a stop to this, It makes me wonder, Are people that stupid. People who are politically connected are promoted, whether they are qualified for the position or not. This occurs all the time, regardless if we're talking about the Feds, City municipalities, or States. I've always said if you have a lot of clout, and work for the city, regardless of your intellect, you will be promoted, you will make a lot of money, you will have less stress, which in turn, may increase your life expectancy, and you will be laughing all the way to the bank with a loaf of bread under each arm in retirement, due to the fact you will have this massive pension, you did not earn. Now, how do you think Charlie Beck became acting Superintendent. Think about it folks.
