With some of the highest gas taxes in the nation, here's a quick way to add another twenty to thirty cents a gallon proposed by a moron in Springfield:

Illinois State Representative Camille Lilly filed House Bill 4571 on February 5, 2020, which would make it illegal for any person to pump their own gas at a gas station in Illinois.
“Creates the Gas Station Attendant Act. Provides that no gas may be pumped at a gas station in this State unless it is pumped by a gas station attendant employed at the gas station. Effective January 1, 2021.”
“Amazing” is the only word that comes to mind which is also fit to print.
"Amazing" is exactly the wrong word in this case.

Oh shit....just like Oregon. Fight this one HARD!! I just love visiting our daughter in Portland, especially when I ride the Harley down from our place in the Seattle/Tacoma burbs. I ALWAYS fill up in Vancouver before crossing the Columbia River. Last time I filled up in Portland, some jag-off hipster comes waltzing over with his ear plugs, septum and eye brow piercings comes up on the low side of the bike and starts fiddle farting around trying to figure out which button to push to open the gas tank cap. I had gotten off on the high side with the Tour-Pack open to stash my helmet and get my wallet. Some rather harsh directives emanated from my lips to which I informed him that his mother pushed a bit too hard and he landed on his head at birth (you can take the boy out of Chicago, but you can’t take the Chicago out of the boy!!).
But I digress.
While the goal of expanding employment by mandating this practice is laudable, in truth it simply masks un and underemployment, pads state revenue streams to various other state agencies and is simply another tax that the middle class gets stuck with the burden of. We’re averaging about $3.25 per gallon in my area, there it is damn near $3.65 a gallon.

I read HB 4571 but what I find missing is any reason given why an attendant is needed to pump gas. This is what the Democrats do best, is to keep creating useless laws that urge more control. Read some of the laws that she has proposed benefiting certain groups of people. The State is going under and these legislators can’t fix that, but keep dreaming up new laws. Read about her HB 0172 that when you are being investigated for a shooting incident or the excessive use of force that the Grand Jury proceedings be open to the public. I still smell a rat with this law. I think they are going to organize all of the community squeegee boys and give them jobs pumping gas and squeegeeing windshields and create a new class of Democrat voters. And if Bernie somehow becomes President and his dream of the government taking over the means of production the gas attendants will refuse you if you are not good Democrat Socialist!!

Wait to you have to hand them your credit card, do you think credit card theft is bad now? When you drive away after getting fuel about a few minutes to a couple hours later you’ll see your credit card maxed out or at least many major purchases on it at various different places, the theft will rise. Imagine also you have a beautiful vehicle they get pissed cause it’s cold out or whatever as they are putting Fuel in your vehicle they pull the gas pump out, fuel spills all over your well taken care of vehicle. Then we would also have to wait for them to shuck and jive as they walk over nonchalantly to get your car fueled up. As usual the Democrats will do anything and everything to disrupt a process that works.
You would think this woman would have something better to do then write nonsense type of laws that make absolutely zero, type of sense. How about Reading laws to put the criminals in jail where they belong, how about writing laws to come in to cook county and go after the states attorney to do her job and the judges to do their jobs? I retired and moved out of Chicago, still in Illinois (insert criticism here) but in a nice, quiet, rural area with nice neighbors etc. The service stations around me are mostly all "plazas", 10, 12, 14, gas pumps. Forget the attendant because they would need 3-4-5 attendants to handle the traffic. Leave it to some dim witted Democrat to find a way to make things more complicated, more expensive, more fuxated. 90% of the state is run by Republicans but Cook County/Chicago run the show and elect every national or statewide candidate. Unless the residents of that once great city on the shores of Lake Michigan open their eyes nothing is gonna change.
There is only one thing about this story that doesn't surprise me.

What's new is old. Grew up in the era of a friendly greeting, windshield washing, oil checking, gas pumping employee, green stamps and all for the price of around a quarter per gallon for gas. Can remember gas wars between stations going as low as 12 cents a gallon. New Jersey still has no self serve.

A few years ago I was driving thru Oregon ,in Lakeview a guy politely takes the nozzle from my hand and says its the Law that he pumps the gas...At first I thought it was a window washing scam or something ...The guy thought it was nuts too...The gas was about the price of Californias, where you e gotta keep your head on a swivel most everywhere when you in pubic,,didnt feel that way in Oregon..of course it wasnt Antifa Town aka Portland.

This is what happens when the base price of gas goes down. Keep in mind that the State benefits from higher priced gas because sales tax is collected against the base price, not per gallon like Motor Fuel Tax. So if you have to raise the base price of gas to pay the $15 an hour pump jockey, you get more sales tax revenue in Springfield.
Unintended consequences...
1) Robberies of outside attendants skyrockets, plus more than a few will be forced to fill tanks for free. Price of gas goes up even more.
2) Sudden rise in debit and credit card fraud.
3) Gas stations in high risk areas close, politicians bemoan "gas deserts", claim "racism".
4) Gas stations in all areas close, remaining stations deal with angry motorists waiting in line for the one attendant to pump gas.
5) Gas stations close after dark, owners cite increased crime and difficulty finding workers.
6) Politicians tout "job creation".
Several years ago they made planting or cultivating Buckthorn shrubs a crime in Illinois. This means that you could be arrested for intentionally planting a bush that grows wild in every county in Illinois, like anyone even has to. If you wanted to plant Buckthorn, you would probably have to cut a Buckthorn down first to make room. In their literature, the Prairie restorationists villianized the shrub because it is from Europe, just like a lot of Northwest side residents. They call it an invasive specie, just like you!!! They bum rapped it for a decade, encouraging it's removal and eradication by any means necessary. When they wrote the law, however, the word Europe does not appear anywhere in the text. Everything these people do is not just stupid, but also anti European, anti White and anti Capitalist. You just have to read something carefully to see the bias. Perhaps her idea is to get owners to hire that cup shaker pestering you at the pump to wash your windows.
Just got the email notification that the plates have to be renewed. Never guess, $50.00 more! I figure that when the White family merged with the Barios family in running the Secretary of State’s office, the costs would go up. They are using email instead of paper and mail for everything, where does all the money go? Am I the only one getting pissed and tired of being ripped off??? That is true but only certain hours and for people with disabilities. Just not enough that billionaire jb who never had a job in his life, living off mom and dads Hyatt hotel chain billions, raised the gas tax but now that :President trump has made us the biggest exporter of fuel in the world they want more money. What about theft,credit card malfeasance,the higher cost of fuel? Hah this is a jobs act for her people, in order to get them more opportunities and of course the payoff is more votes and cash for her! Just got gas at pilot on Harlem counted 24 pumps and more for diesel trucks how many jamokes would it take to service all the vehicles? remember also if your fuel cap is not clicked properly you will lose gas mileage and trigger a check engine light.
Fuel would rise 20-40 cents a gallon, and the service would be terrible, your in a hurry wait for the goof to get his/ass out to pump, fill it to the top "sorry sir first click I stop,"!

I no know too much about New York blend but LA has at least 4 depending where in LA county it is going. And San Bernardino has three for the coast and two for the high desert. And the price of gasoline is flucking high. They are required to use the California asphalt based and Alaskan heavy crudes to make this chit. Why it is a wee bit under $5.00 a gallon. Holy crap!!! I have a friend that just got yelled at for pulling into a gas station in Oregon. They have essentially the same thing...all gas stations are full service and customers are not allowed to do their own gas! I think there might be a few other states that have this. It adds "jobs" I guess...but we certainly don't need to pay an additional $0.50/$0.60 gal for something we can do ourselves!

I have a motorhome with a large gas tank. I always fill on the Iowa side before returning home. And the next fill is always in a state other than Illinois. It's always about 80 cents + a gallon cheaper.
Sorry, but when I think of this person and gas, fuel stations aren't what come to mind.
Several years ago, We were touring Oregon. At that time they had a similar law: "Everyone deserves a job" law. Pulled into a gas station with 3 islands, yes, there were 6 people that pumped gas. This was routine all over the state. Of course the cost was 50 cents or more per gallon above the cost of gas in Washington State.
I guess someone discovered the additional cost per gallon actually hurt the poor and middle class that the law was repealed.
Does Lilly actually read the news papers? (oh, that's right, since Trump's unemployment rate is 3.2%) There is no way the newspapers or television news would carry that information. I would assume it would be difficult to find people who would pump gas. That would cause many of the gas stations to close because of the lack of employees.

The only time I went to Oregon on business I witnessed a screaming match between the attendant and the customer whose car got filled with gas instead of diesel.

there was a guy i believe back in the 80's in of all places oak park that owned a gas station and open carried his .45 at his gas station, pumping gas. i'll pump all the gas you want for $20 an hour with my hog leg on my side.
