Police Board Half-Asses It
- Chicago Police Board members did not review key evidence about Sgt. Khalil Muhammad’s off-duty shooting of an unarmed teenager with autism before they decided in December to keep him on the force, a WBEZ investigation has found.
The evidence the board failed to review raises one doubt after another about Muhammad’s explanations for chasing Ricardo “Ricky” Hayes, 18, down a South Side block and firing two rounds at the teen, who suffered gunshot wounds but survived.
Police Board Executive Director Max A. Caproni, responding to WBEZ questions, wrote that the nine-member panel was “required to base its decision only on the record of proceedings.”
That record included a plea agreement in which the sergeant admitted that the 2017 shooting was “without lawful justification” in exchange for a 180-day suspension.
Deadly force "without lawful justification" isn't usually a suspension level offense - it's often known as Aggravated Battery and people go to prison for it.
But once again, the connected skate while everyone else, just trying to get by, will suffer untold consequences.

It turns out Lynda Lopez isn’t so tolerant of black folk. Ongoing flap at the Pilsen Post Office where Latino woman accuses black postal worker of being racist for saying she doesn’t speak English. Replying to Socialist Alderman Byron Sigcho (who later added Lopez, and an Asian wife, police critic Loreen Targos) hand-picked cub reporter Carlos Ballesteros, of the Sun-Times, she says:

A lot of officers aren’t aware that they don’t sit and listen to the testimony , but rely on the record of the testimony. Makes a huge difference between reading a transcript and actually seeing the demeanor of the witness How can you judge the credibility of the witness by reading a piece of paper in a proceeding conducted by a hearing officer. My Polish great-grandmother never really learned English. She only spoke Polish in her home. My grandma told me that when she was about 7 years old, her mom sent her to the corner butcher. She said she remembered that she really struggled to tell the butcher what she needed...he was German but spoke to her in English. She went home empty handed and embarrassed and after that day picked everyone in the neighborhood’s brain to learn English. She still spoke Polish and utilized it, but she always thought it was rude and ignorant for anyone, no matter the language, to come here and not try to learn English. The case for a common language, English, is not to deny people their heritage or culture, but it’s a practical tool in communicating in a multi-cultural society. We’ve become a nation of “identity” and “individuality” which ironically most come here for a better life but no longer come here for a better life as Americans.

Nothing precludes the United States Government from charging the Sgt. Unreal shooting, watch the video. But thats what happens when your related to Louis Farrakhan. Multiple units in 022 actually went over the air before the incident and immediately acknowledge their was a boy running around and def something mentally wrong with him then mins later this happened. So mult officers immediately noticed the boy had issues but KM the self proclaimed working police didn’t and shot him. That’s a crazy leap in use of force let alone, sanctity of life, while using time distance and shielding esp considering he was in a car and the boy was unarmed. Rumor has it he was ignorant and proud of himself after the shooting until he faked a heart attack when he realized the seriousness. Anybody wonder who his dad is? She’s been in the country for 33 years and hasn’t bothered to learn English! My neighbor teaches ESL at a city college. It’s free. She told her mechanic to have the guys in the garage sign up on more than one occasion, no one bothered to do so.

So he gets away with it, a mere slap on the wrist due to his clout and ass kissing. CPD is rotting from the head down just like a fish. And Beck is part of the smell. Anyone applying to CPD now has to either be out of their mind or has plenty of clout to propel them through the ranks in merit record time.
Pity there isn't one reporter in the country that will expose this for what it is. No one could even pick up the CWB Chicago story they did on the shooting. I wish they would have continued on investigating this story, then perhaps others would have picked it up.
If JVD would have had a revolver he would be a free man today. He wasn't prosecuted for anything but the number of shots fired.
