- An inmate beaten to death last weekend at Cook County Jail suffered injuries so severe, they were similar to those of a person who had been involved in a car crash, Cook County prosecutors said in court Thursday.
Pedro Ruiz, 19, was found by correctional officers unresponsive in his cell early Feb. 1 in a maximum security division of Cook County Jail, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office.
Christian Gonzalez, 24, faces a charge of first-degree murder in Ruiz’s death and is accused of beating the younger man with a sock filled with bars of soap and dragging Ruiz about the cell by his hair, prosecutors said.
And here's a classic "non-answer" from Dart's people about the fact that they don't ask gang affiliations anymore:

Many times there’s only 3 guards assigned to monitor a wing. One guard may be working out and one may be roaming the building.. leaving one guard alone with several dozens of dangerous prisoners. Of course that one guard isn’t going to walk the wing.

Off topic. Got my sgt results yesterday. How in the world is 44 % passing. I thought that they are fixing the problem with merit and rigged tests. You mean to tell that someone who miserably failed an exam can become a supervisor. Where is Lightfoot and Beck asking the question about why someone with 44% on an exam could even be considered for a supervisor position. Incompetence is widespread in management and the process continues. Do they test the same way in L.A. Why isn’t the first part of the test added to part 2 for a final score. Why isn’t activity considered or time on the job. Why don’t you ask potential candidates how often they have testified in court. This place is a sad joke.

these fund raising calls using law enforcement as a buy in are very common as well as other fund raisers. They want your credit card info over the phone. I tell them that I do not respond to any telephone solicitations and I give out no personal information whatsoever. Too many scams out there
Back in the 90s, there definitely would be retaliation for this inside the jail. It would either come in the form of the another attack against a member of the latin folks or they will hit christian babyface in the bullpen when going to court. Im not sure if the latin saints are still under the people affiliation since they have all enemies on the streets nowadays.

Just like they asked them “ are you mentally ill?” Most of them answering “yes” because it helps them with a trial, they receive psych medication to get high, plus their lawyers get them social security benefits for being unable to work due to they “disability” and yes, while they sitting in jail eating pizza and drinking hooch made out of fruits collected from dirty deputies, they are collecting money from SS. It’s all a f joke.

3 not guards but deputies. They are law enforcement officers with better training and discipline than CPD. Half of the CPD kids would quit after first week in the academy. And with 3 officers, You are being very generous. Cause last time I worked D10 we barely had 1 watching two tiers. I know, I worked there and now with CPD.

I remember in 025 soap was as scarce as Joe Curtin’s charm and when the janitor’s were allowed to put any out it was a half bar of Ivory. I think the guy felt bad for us and brought it from home to put on some of the sinks that were still functioning (no hot water valve).

I just reviewed the Citizens Police Data Project. Did not know all this info was on the web. Been retired for many years, reviewed my info that went back almost 50 years. They apparently posted info on all current and former members.
Like many here I made two inexcusable horrific mistakes in my life. First was accepting a position as a CO at Cook County and second mistake was accepting a position as a PO with CPD.... 8 years left and I don't think I'll make it. FML.

Remember when they were passing around flyers about this very harsh gang the 'savage life'. The biggest one was about 175 lbs. We called them the skinny life. There was about 25 of these clowns. Dart was bending over backwards while they kept seeing what they could get away with. We had at the time about 3000 guards while Dart let 25 inmates totally control his jail. For years he even let them attack guards/inmates and they weren't charged. Thankfully they weren't the toughest and most survived the beatings with minor injuries. So glad i got out of that shithole. But, the mayor approved their contract. This is happening at school all over ,outside of the city and across the country. The students are not being educated, but the teachers are being rewarded. They cross boundaries with students, party with them, the students are not receiving the education that is necessary to succeed, yet we continue to reward organized predators
What happened to protective custody? Used to give you a choice at intake if weren't street smart small or weak better take protective custody. Plenty of room at jail now for everyone to get their own cell.

Worst part is how people get trapped at the jail cause you can only make collect calls if you don't have any money on you most people have cell phones that don't accept collect calls so you cant get ahold of anyone for bail.
I'm curious why this is news. Is jail the reason? Hispanic/Latino gang members kill each other often and aren't reported much.
The place is out of control! Not only do pre trial detainees get pizza, the list goes on... Ice machines, microwaves, many different programs are offered BAM, PACE, Fatherhood classes, Musical Instrument music recording program. Law Library! You name it Tommy has it! Oh and those bars of soap WOW like hockey pucks! They get to much behind bars!
