So the entire Third Watch is either gone or on the verge of walking out the door and suddenly, Waller puts out an order at 2330 hours saying in essence:
- District personnel who were RDO cancelled on Sunday are now RDO
Are we getting this correct?

Can I get my cancelled Saturday rdo back? That was a big fucking waste of my time.
I swear the hypocrisy on this job cracks me and not just with Waller. It's so funny how guys (when they are POs) all love to criticise the department but the second they know they are getting their white shirts and stripes all of sudden the job and GOs all make sense. They all of a sudden become crystal clear and logical.
When I was in PHS 715 with Waller he was always critical of the Sup and BOP and their goofy decisions and now FW is that guy, lol.
Again it seems (almost) everyone Sgt and above are all hypocrites. It's ok when they did it as P.O.s but don't you take that 40 minute lunch.

They did similar for the Van Dyke trial. People cancelled all kinds of plans, only to have them abandon it. I lost $ during Van Dyke trial because abandoned family plans and overtime that never came. They also can’t seem to figure out how to give a phone alert to all members... you know similar to an Amber alert or the kind of alert you get on your phone for active shooter at an educational institution.

What do you expect from this department? You’d think that it wouldn’t be impossible to move to plan to teach recruits by video within days of the academy closing down, would you? But apparently it is, instead we’ve relegated them to washing cars and putting together garbage, useless PPE kits. Why not just have them iron the Mayor’s suits or give Beck a moustache trim? They should be doing video learning ASAP, the physical training, range can be grouped at the end when hopefully the academy is open. Scenario based training was always a joke anyway, you learn when you get out there. And by the way, what is the academy staff doing now, anyway?

You can make fun of our "command staff" as much as you want, and as the 90 % pure meritorious (AKA too stupid to pass a test), but at least Waller has always been the real police. Poor Beck is stuck with some real losers, many making north of $200,000.
This is why I decided to stick it out at the county and get on with Sheriff's Police. At least here we have a real leader with a real command staff and we do real police work. CPD is a sinking ship, that's is it's not already completely under water. Smart leader, great pay, take home vehicle, and lastly...I don't have to live in that cesspool of a city.

You should have joined the state police. I’m a road trooper working every day. Other divisions are sitting home. Investigations, Medicaid fraud, Swat, Etc.... we have probably 1000 troopers sitting at home. Hate this department. Reasons why you never see a trooper on the road. To cancel days off and pack the station with more people breathing on each other is simply amazing; especially when nothing of serious social disorder is going on right now. The budget of this city is going to be wrecked with the collapse of the economy, so why not save money for overtime for when it may be needed? (riots, looting, etc). The department needs to run as normal and cut down on the O.T. until it is needed. What I saw yesterday in the district was ridiculous. Cops riding 8 deep in vans, not enough radios, not enough cars or equipment, and packed roll call rooms where social distancing was not being practiced. Complete horseshit.

It was the right move. The governor made the decision for the “stay at home order” which the department knew in advance. With not knowing if there would be unrest or not the department prepared to have the manpower available in case. There was not so they canceled it for the time being going forward. Now you are upset.
If they did nothing knowing the “stay at home order” was coming and there was serious issues, you would have been up in arms bitching that the department didn’t plan for it knowing the order was coming from the state.
Do I think think the department does right majority of the time, hell no. PPE’s, cleaning supplies, etc. But this was the right call in this situation with so many unknowns at this moment and going forward for awhile.

Nothing better to do than to write up officers who are working because their days off were canceled.

My experiences over the years with sheriffs police is that they’re utterly useless. Take your bragging some place where people will give a shit and might be impressed. You got to be some young kid who CPD didn’t hire and you had enough juice to get to sheriffs police. Either way, you’re a massive boner for writing that comment.

How can people continue to defend these merit patronage hacks just because they think the person is " the real police"? There are plenty of people out there that are smart and hard working but will not get promoted for a variety of reasons. Yes, even if you study hard you need a certain amount of luck to make any rank, let alone a gold star. This corrupt promotions system cheats the honest cloutless officer of a chance. Then these folks who just love these merit hacks rush out to buy promotion party and then retirement party tickets. Not just gold stars but commanding officers slot are held by the patronage employee. The fact that they just might be " the real police" is coincidental for there are many of these merit hacks who are not, just as there are many who made it on the list who are the real police or not.

Shhhhhhh....I'm the furthest guy from being an O.T. whore, but our cancelled RDO Sunday was the easiest $300+ dollars my partner & I have made in a long time. If the city wants to put inept people in charge that call the wrong shots, let them pay for it. As much as I dread working in the ghetto on my rdo's and/or 12 hour days... I, and others, will be milking their ineptitude all the way to the bank. Debts will be paid off quicker, savings will be boosted higher, plans to leave Chicago for the great white North upon retirement will be made more joyously, with more funds available from this whole covid19 fiasco. Let them scramble, as long as WE reap the profits of their stupidity.

Ha ha ha ha I second that, I'm amazed that these "Sheriff's police" are finally allowed to play police in the city and they want to stick there little chest out. How about you go back to chasing traffic in your unincorporated areas or up and down Lagrange.
Cpd never surprises Inspectors are going to write up officers during these times. I’m sure CPD will ask officers for extras during these times risk of exposure, days offf cancelled, certain discretions restrictions and so on. Inspector worried about equipment yet CPD doesn’t have PPE or any other types of failsafes for officers. But keep ruining that morale CPD always the smartest moves at the worst times by the clouted in charge.
