Sign the Petition

The Police Board is trying to fire the Officer involved in the Toledo shooting where known gang bangers were shooting at cars and fled with a gun. They were observed on video with a gun and by responding officers with a gun. This is not in dispute.

The "dispute" comes in when Toledo turns with the gun in his hand toward the police while simultaneously covertly attempting to toss the gun in such a way that his hand motions were partially hidden by the fence (our interpretation) . Motions that would be interpreted by a reasonable police officer (the legal standard by the way) of being a direct threat to the police officer involved.

We're not talking about tenths-of-a-second. We're talking about hundredths-of-a-second.

In any event, there's a petition in support of the Officer at this link here

Go sign it please.

Exactly why we need to get these decisions out of the police boards hands and into an unbiased, untainted 3rd party that just plain and simple gives us a fair shake. There is no reason this officer should be going thru this.

An extremely hard charger that I know shut it completely down after what happened to stillman. Said he’ll never do an ounce of proactive police work again. I haven’t seen him make even a single traffic stop since. I don’t blame him one bit. Very surprised the whole department didn’t do the same.

The message this sends is scarry.

There's no question this was a legitimate shooting. I'd prefer the older gangbanger have ended up dead but that didn't happen.

I've watched videos of wrongful police involved shootings. This wasn't one of them. It's not even a close call.

Firing a weapon at zero dark thirty, running and turning while the gun was in hand is not conducive to a long life with minimal contact with the police.

This is a bullshit decision.

The officer’s actions were reasonable and justified especially in that timeline when one has only a couple of seconds to act. Those who judge have all the time in the world to make decisions and are often influenced by public pressure commonly referred to as mob justice.

I’ve been on this blog for over 10 years reading it daily, even making contributions with stories and info to SCC via email. (During the pause when the blog was down. It was truly depressing. I’m so glad it’s back up.)

I know you can’t protest by not showing up at work. (Although I understand the blue flu approach and I wouldn’t blame you one damn bit.) But, respectfully, if you guys sit by and do nothing and let this happen without letting your voice be heard, without protesting, without showing some form of dissent, then I’m disappointed with you. I signed the petition, but that's not enough.

And I'm not just talking out of my ass. I’ll be there with you. Other citizens will too, because this is not just an attack on officers. This is not just an attack on Eric, (who I’ve corresponded with, letting him know he had my support). This is an attack on lawful, good, law-abiding citizens.

So I’ll be there with you when you show up at City Hall or at CPD headquarters or the police board meeting and stand with you. I’ll walk the streets with you when you protest. Whatever the hell you do I (and MANY of us) are with you.

Kentucky Shows How to Get Tough on Crime!

"The Republican-controlled legislature is advancing House Bill 5 (HB5), also known as the "Safer Kentucky Act," and it includes a ton of tough-on-crime provisions that other states that value the safety of their residents out to consider modeling.

(Kentucky's governor is a Democrat, but the Republican legislator is a super-majority with veto-override capability.)

Included in the 72-page bill are provisions that:

prohibit or tightly constrain probation and parole for a variety of violent crimes,

makes death-by-fentanyl-sale a capital crime,

substantially elevate the severity and sentences for a variety of violent crimes including carjacking,

prohibits unlawful homeless encampments,
explicitly approves the use of force by property owners or renters to remove squatters or trespassers,

empowers the state Attorney General to sue any that decline to enforce that law (e.g., sanctuary cities),

requires homeless shelters to prohibit resident individuals from the use of drugs or alcohol and require that they consent to mental health conditions and refrain from criminal activity,

allows for the institutionalizing of individuals without requiring proof of criminal conduct,

tightly restricts the ability of "charitable bail organizations" to bail out violent criminals,

strengthens the ability of retail establishments to use force to detain shoplifters and organized theft rings,

provides criminal and civil immunity to shoplifters who lawfully use force to stop shoplifters,

defines reckless endangerment with a firearm as a "violent offender" crime for which probation or parole is tightly constrained,

expands the definition of terroristic threatening to include any building and any gathering of 3 or more persons,

mandates that school employees report to police certain violent acts or firearms possession by students,

expands the definition of "serious physical injury" for certain domestic violence offenses (including "dating" relationships),

greatly increases the penalties for flight from the police,

... and much, much more!"

But the Loss of an Officer after we trained him to make that decision in a split second? All this accomplished is to make the rest of the Department members fearful of making that decision? I agree that the officer did nothing wrong, but unfortunately in this city they would rather protect and canonize these little jagoffs than back the police and explain the entire narrative of how this kid was a Latin King gangbanger out at 0200 hours firing a gun at a passing vehicle. This is why you should think twice before you engage in proactive policing. I used to love doing police work , but as time goes on you see no one gives a fuck about any of this stuff. They would rather you not do proactive police work because you are at risk of being a national headline. If you’re a hard charger you may want to pump the brakes and sit on your hands.

Any video used to evalute anything must be viewed at 1x speed, aka recorded real time.

Frame by frame is only valid for identification/clarification of physical/geometrical details, not perceptions during real time occurence.

Speculations derived from this real time viewing are also flawed as position of video capture device is not ever upon the forehead of the one wearing it. And that still is only an approximation of pov of two functioning human eyeballs, located in their normal positions relative one to the other.

Even pov porn videos have a more valid video representation of recorded events.

Plus, the mild fisheye lense also distorts the value of pov.

Real time, 1x viewing is the only valid usage, with the resulting evaluations being still less than accurate to the there and then decision sequence.

After the event evaluations are dubious enough, without the expected bias from a variety of tainted sources.

The politically imposed diminishments of acceptance of harsh but accurate realities reduces the tasks of police to less than bare minimum to provide anyone of our city, county and state populace with better than a report well after the fact events, and an inaccurate report at that. Rendered even more inaccurate by alternative deceptive interpretations.

The deceitful deceive as the victims grieve.

It's the democrat pattern.

Toledo could have dropped his gun in the street the second the police pulled up and ordered him to. Toledo could have stopped running, dropped his gun in the alley and put his arms up in the air, each and every time the police ordered him to.

Toledo chose not to. Toledo chose to keep running away in search of the perfect structure. He knew he would toss his gun behind that structure and swiftly turn with his hands up in the air, to give the illusion of "why you chasing me cop, I ain't got nothing on me."

The officer did absolutely nothing wrong. In fact, my first take on the video was the officer did everything right. I was proud of his actions before, during, and after the shooting.

How will this help anything? Union has no power to help anyone who’s at the mercy of discipline. Copa doesn’t answer to the union and neither does bia or the inspector general or anyone. I knew the union wielded no power when Carter remained first deputy after his performance at Ella’s murder. If they can’t even get the first deputy replaced they can’t do anything for the wellbeing of officers on the ground.

Coppers are literally at the mercy of people who openly hate police. A conflict of interest so large should never stand but here we are, mostly due to the union having no power to stop the past 10 years of officer protection.

I’m recently retired. Thank God.
What’s not being talked about nearly enough is our brave Superintendent who hid in the Academy for over 20 years is also CPD’s USE OF FORCE EXPERT! All he needs to do is hold a press conference and approve the shooting. That’s it.
He’s the boss. He’s the expert. But of course he hasn’t. He’s a coward. And politics and his image are all that matters. Period.
This was an outstanding police action. The officer should have an award of valor.
It would’ve been nice or even customary that Snelling would reach out to the officer. But, that hasn’t happened either.
First Brown who never called, now Snelling.
