Why is This a Thing?

How many taxpayer funded stadiums is one team expected to get?

  • Gov. J.B. Pritzker said Friday that his administration plans to meet with developers proposing a new White Sox stadium along the Chicago River in the South Loop.

“I know my staff is going to be meeting with them to hear the pitch, so to speak,” Pritzker said at an unrelated event in Villa Park.

The outreach by developers to the governor’s office marks a potential step forward in what could be an uphill push to bring a new ballpark to the vacant site known as The 78. On Friday, Pritzker continued to project caution on the idea of spending public funds on a stadium for the privately-owned team, beyond typical infrastructure costs, just as he repeatedly has in discussions of a new Bears stadium.

“I set out what I think are the parameters that the taxpayers expect, which is why we need to be careful about how we use public dollars,” Pritzker said. “And a private business like a professional team, even if they’re beloved by so many people, are nevertheless similar to lots of other businesses in the state.”

Fatass is actually talking sense....however, until a deal is inked and we see how many taxpayer dollars are being stolen and steered to a private enterprise....

Quite frankly, we think the Sox would be happier in Tennessee. Then they'd be closer to one of our retirement destinations. Shhhhhhh.

Yes, please take tax money from working stiffs in order to build a billionaire company owner a playground for his millionaire employees to play their children's game. In between which those millionaires will be hitting their wife/girlfriend, drunk & reckless driving, evading taxes, dropping their loaded gats in the locker room . . . But remember, you can't blow your whole wad on new playgrounds, those reparations ain't gonna pay themselves!

The big question is:

How many fuckin' calories a day does JB Fat-ass have to take in to keep that physique ?

Someone should check his closet. There are probably hundreds of discarded pizza boxes.

Do you think the Tennessee authorities would have investigated the CPS Chunk-o & her alleged bleacher shooting?? Here is what I don’t understand. The game was in the late innings, no more booze to peddle. The gate was already maxed for the day. Who EXACTLY was running the investigation Assman009 because it sounds like the half assed investigation he would run if asked. In fact he would boast at the laziness & half-assed way it appears to have been done??? Why isn’t ANYONE asking for answers in this shooting. I was in Dietroit a long time ago, since Shitcago seems to be going down that hole. Here is some info. There was a shooting in the bleachers at Tiger stadium. They closed the area, took info (names and numbers) and let the fans move to another part of the park. They didn’t stop the game but they did do something not just say the bullet fell like pennies from Heaven.

They often sound like they are making sense, the words are easy to pick and say.

It's what they are scheming that they keep not saying.

Since every word they speak is covering everything they scheme, no words ever spoken by them are true nor sincerely so.

It is always about the grift.

What's going to happen with the current stadium? Is it just going to rot away? Spending over $1B dollars for a new stadium is simply stupid. Imagine how many individuals will profit from it...

I wish someone would have stopped the building of the private arena that Rahm Emanuel paid for with our tax dollars when he built one for DePaul University.

Absolutely no reason Chicagoans should have paid for that!

The Chicago river was moved decades ago near that area. I wonder if that vacant property is that location. If so, is it good ground to build on? Is it landfill?

Keep them in Chicago. Hopefully they’ll generate taxable revenue for pensions. Also, way too many Chicagoans moving to Nashville area. They colonize and don’t assimilate.

The straightening of the Chicago River in 1916. Looks like that property used to be where the river was located until they straightened it. Is that land safe to build a massive stadium on? Will there be foundation sinking/cracking? http://chicagology.com/harbor/straighteningriver/

Comiskicelluar G-Spot Fieldpark is A 35-year old-stadium that everyone said at the time resembled one of Great America's uglier rides.

It has all the charm of Sec. of State License Facility.

The team has been shit for 20 years.

Of course no one is going to build a thriving neighborhood economy based on average attendance of what, 3,000? Especially not when those 3,000 don't want to be in the neighborhood after dark, and Lord knows they don't bring in any business after the first week of September. Ever.

Neighborhoods grow up around ballparks, not the other way around.

Neighborhoods do NOT grow up around ugly malls in demilitarized zones.

Related Group must have made significant contributions to Johnson and Pritzker campaigns. Very much a "pay to play" developer who knows how to make the right progressive-politics noises and gestures. Related Chicago is probably most "woke" developer, certainly knows how to express the right gestures and slogans.

Established ties between NY-based Related Group and Pritzker Hyatt Corp help too.

There's money to be made by Reinsdorf, Pritzker, and Related, so the taxpayers will be obligated to pay for yet another stadium boondoggle project. Highly likely this project will get traction, and that deal's already done.

I love how they expect taxpayers to foot the bill so they can make millions off the same taxpayers. Maybe if any of these projects meant special pricing, discounts or freebies for the local tax payers. But they never do anything to show thier appreciation, not even a one time swag sticker.smh

Sorry, it may be your money but it's their tribe and you're not part of it. So pony up suckers, Governor Flintstone says Yabba Dabba Do Send Me Your Money!

And the Sox will keep right on aiming to be the 2nd best team in their division to save money on players and boost their ROI for themselves and their owners.

The only possible positive, is that with a truly big enough sweetheart deal, current ownershit may be able to sell to a much greater fool than even the fans. And the Sox may actually become a professional baseball team once again.

Yeah, right...lol. I always thought the Cubs had the dumbest fans in Chicago. Clearly that honor has gone south, just like the rest of that city.

Get rid of Wentworth gardens and turn that into Sox Village. Tall walls up all around. Bars, restaurants, souvenir shops, etc. Gentrify the shit hole neighborhoods south of Pershing by buying up the properties. Residential housing, apartments and Condos by the park. Long term plan.

The Sox REALLY want to try and move to Nashville. Nashville is a massively growing area with baseball crazy Southerners who sell out a AAA stadium and support Vandys Baseball religiously. Nashville Metro is a very hot city on the verge of making the team a fortune. Baseball is loved in the South and fans are craving something from MLB other than the Braves, (Tampa and Miami don’t count.) After last 2 years Jerry wants out to spend his golden years in Az and Fla. With a city overrun supporting 10,000’s illegals and already vacant downtown the future cost of funding a stadium will not get approved.

Please, the cubs don’t fill that stadium, the neighborhood of bars and restaurants is the draw. Back before they gentrified around the park they sucked and were drawing 3-5 thousand a game. It’s now known as the world’s biggest beer garden for a reason.

The biggest mistake they ever made at the new Sox stadium was not allowing a strip of bars and restaurants in one of those lots, creating a destination before and after games. They screwed those bars over that they promised could come back and never built anything. The park sucks and unless you’re from the area and know where to go for food and drinks, you get in and get out.

The Sox should go to Nashville, where they’ll be greeted with open arms, and the bears should go to Arlington Heights…
