- Car theft in the city reached unprecedented levels
last year, and this year, the perpetrators have shown no signs of
slowing down. In just one week, a staggering 65 cars were stolen on average each day.
[...] From January 29 through February 4, a total of 457 cars were stolen, averaging nearly 65 thefts per day citywide. Although slightly down from the same period last year, Alderwoman Jeanette Taylor of the 20th Ward, where the crash occurred, emphasized that mere complaints are insufficient and action must be taken.
That works out to well over 22,000 auto thefts per year, and most likely directly attributable to the "no chase" policy implemented across the board.
This part is amusing however:

That is one of the first times we've ever seen a Chicago politician calling for parental accountability.

We used to have auto theft units in all 6 areas and central auto theft. It’s amazing one can steal a sixty thousand dollar car and no one cares anymore. The insurance companies know this so they just increase your auto insurance rate.

CWB is reporting that Police Supt. Snelling told a gathering that during the month of January the CPD cleared 20 of 26 homicides by arrest. A clearance rate of 74%. Even after being challenged he insisted this # was correct. Of course after an FOI request was filed this information proved false.
Just curious, didn’t 1st Cmdr. Harris recently take 5 days for a similar incident. Here’s the Supt. intentionally inflating #’s and being challenged by the media. We’ll see who is going to hold his feet to the fire. Maybe they’ll just call it a Joe Biden mashed potato for brains senior moment.

Great post ^, its about votes & winning elections. Academic studies show what needs to be done & is a twenty year base of programs etc it involves a long term strategy but elections cycle are in the 2 to 4 cycle. "Clearance" means as a detective I followed up on 3 leads(called three potential witnesses). I might have dialed the correct numbers or might have not, depending, because mistakes do happen. Not my fault no-one answered. What matters is the effort was made but with negative results and the case therefore was cleared. Just keep sending me cases.

Ha. He can’t do the job with a camera. Do dumb. Thats why he quit to work the desk. Anyone can get a gun stopping anyone at any time and searching houses without a care in the world.
