- A man on electronic monitoring while awaiting trial on murder and carjacking charges was shot while driving a stolen car with firearms inside the vehicle, officials said Wednesday.
Incredibly, this is the second time that Torrey Lewis has been accused of possessing firearms while on electronic monitoring for the same 2017 murder and carjacking case. The previous gun charges, which we told you about in April 2022, ended with a judge finding him not guilty during a bench trial.
Lewis is facing more than 160 counts of murder in the still-pending murder case in which a disabled man was shot to death while sitting in his wheelchair outside a suburban movie theater as his girlfriend looked on.
One-hundred-sixty counts? And he's out on a bracelet? What the actual f#$%#???

Around 10 a.m. on January 31, Lewis was enjoying his “free movement day” — one of two days each week that people on electronic monitoring (EM) in Illinois are allowed to be out of the house under a 2022 law that some people consider “criminal justice reform.” Legislators who supported the measure said it was necessary so people on EM could do “essential activities” like going to a doctor or getting food.
Lewis’s “essential activities” that day had him sitting behind the wheel of a stolen car in the parking lot of an auto parts store in Dolton, officials said Wednesday. He was shot multiple times as he sat in the vehicle. A rifle and a handgun were found in the front passenger area, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office.
A man in the back seat of the stolen car was also shot, as were two men outside the vehicle. The sheriff’s office said police determined that someone in the stolen car exchanged gunfire with the occupants of another vehicle.
"free movement day"? What lib-tarded f#@$ thought up this disaster? And this felon uses it to to be in a stolen car in the vicinity of at least two firearms that he shouldn't have been within miles of.
This reminds us of Massachusetts governor Dukakis' prisoner furlough program that let convicted murders out for free weekends, where Willie Horton committed a rape while out on a pass.
Whoever supported this "free movement" pass needs to be blamed directly for crimes committed by those released from monitoring.

So the rational is you can’t go to the doctor or get food while on an EM. Not using the EM on two days a week negates the purpose of wearing it on the other days. We need to identify the legislators who sponsored this foolishness and actively pursue removing them from the Statehouse. Do we have enough dunce hats for these people to wear?

If someone on electric monitoring in Cook County actually gets sentenced, does the court knock off from the total sentence the electric monitoring days as timed already served? And do these 2 "free days" a week also count as time served?

I often wonder why judges, "prosecutors" or politicians are not sued by victims for crimes committed due to lenient sentencing. I assumed it was some kind of Constitutional thing but I'd certainly give to a fund that supported those victims' families if they attempted to sue a pro-crime judge, "prosecutor" or politician who caused the death of their loved one.

Perhaps some person skilled in data management could draw up a spreadsheet showing dispositions by the various judges working in Chicago and tallying the subsequent developments. Kinda like a leader board of judicial SNAFUS.
Since electronic monitoring is a joke and everybody, especially the criminals, knows it, why not just do away with the ankle bracelets and just have them pinky swear they will stay out of trouble and show up to court. The results would be much the same and those charged with keeping up with these perps can be reassigned.

Great idea. I think the biggest problem though would be finding a data source. I’m pretty sure the clerk of the court is using really old tech just to keep it running. They were supposed to have some big modernization that keeps getting pushed back. And I bet whenever they get that modernization done they’ll be way behind publishing data for general use.
If anybody knows otherwise and a public online source for that info please say so. I’m a recently retired programmer and have some of the skills to do that and can easily learn the ones I don’t know. I would love to put my skills to use on something like this. When people at my job for a woke corporation asked me what I was going to do when I retired, I used to love telling them I'm going to figure out how to use my skills to advance right wing conservative causes.
Too much Woke actionable worry about perceived needs and hardships of criminals, too little Woke worry about victims and law-abiding folks.

As long as judges and prosecutors were engaged in their official courtroom duties while making their terrible decisions, they have immunity from lawsuits. Being a shitty judge or prosecutor, or even purposely making incorrect decisions, doesn't mean you can sue them.
