Larry Snelling made a remarkable claim: The department’s detectives had
already solved over 70% of 2024’s murders.
He said it once during an appearance at the Economic Club of Chicago. He repeated it at a town hall hosted by the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability, the city agency that selected him last year as a finalist for the top cop job.
Depending on which meeting you were at, he said the department had solved either 19 out of 25 or 20 out of 26. Newspapers, TV stations, and online news outlets published Snelling’s claim without an ounce of skepticism.
And that’s too bad. Because the Chicago Police Department had not solved 19 or 20 of this year’s murders. As of January 25, it had solved three. Our source? The Chicago Police Department.
And once again, it's the Crime in Wrigleyville and Boystown blog doing the actual reporting here in Chicago. This tiny blog is beating the lamestream media outlets to the punch on any and all crime reporting along with most of the scandals occurring under the radar.
The future of reporting isn't the tools carrying Conehead's water (and Groot's, Rahm's, Shortshanks, Prickwrinkle, etc.)

One of the interesting things on speaking about clearance rates and closing cases?
It’s a lot easier to speak competently on the matter if you spent a little time in the D unit or some kind of investigatory role throughout your career. Should be a prerequisite for taking the supe spot.
Since he spent majority of his career playing pinch-and-tickle inside of 1300 Jackson, it comes as no surprise he doesn’t understand how absolutely ridiculous and basically impossible those stats sound.
And also how easily they can be proved to be false.
He only knows what the Areas are reporting to him, but only if he knew how much wool is being pulled over his eyes. Many of the Exceptional Cleared Closed Homicides were pinned on unrelated deceased individuals. They’re making a fool of him.
Dave isn’t the only one. The number of CR#’s coming out of certain units is fucking ridiculous. You should see the shit these exempts try pulling. There’s one particular boss that leads the department in open CR#s. She went from sergeant to commander in 2 1/2 years with 3 open CR#s and after a recent 10 day suspension.
To trust or not to trust is no longer a question.
To not trust anything spewing from the pieholes of any formerly barely trustworthy 'news' sources is the proven default these crazy days of new century.
This technology is the only blessing now, in our current condition of abundant deceivers.

there are several things the city can do to assist detectives in their investigations. One thing is to get rid of CHRIS and CLEAR and start using a more advanced system. Not saying this is the ONLY thing that will improve the clearance rate, but it is a start. There are so many better options out there, including the state of Illinois’ SACWIS system which is friggin incredible

When are they going to announce the first deputy and other exempt spots? The promotional calendar has an exempt class starting Monday with the detectives. Interesting to see if Snelling and the puppet masters will demote some of the incompetent leaders and promote some competent ones.

It depends on how they want to calculate the numbers and by what classifications. Closed by arrest?, closed by bar to prosecute? And the big one that always affects the clearance rate is whether or not they’re including or excluding previous years cases. For example, the current year clearance will always be terrible. Most cases extend into the next year. So if you’re getting charges and clearing cases from previous years those are not included in the clearance rate. UNLESS! They decide to include those to pump the numbers up. Soooooo, no one really knows what the numbers truly are.

Gas now completely shut off, no heat or hot water. Only 2 portable heaters to heat the entire building.

So either he lied or he was too stupid to realize there was no way the clearance rate would ever be that high. Either way, he's incredibly incompetent.
