Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics
Who are you going to believe? The government or your own goddamn lying eyes?
In recent weeks the Biden administration and many news outlets, including USA Today and The Hill, have touted declines in violent crime statistics to argue that America is becoming a safer place.
“Right now, with 2023 figures and early 2024, the trends are all pointing down, in a positive direction,” Jeff Asher, whose New Orleans-based AH Datalytics is developing his own “Real-Time Crime Index,” told RealClearInvestigations.
Remember, New York, LA and Chicago have ALL failed to report crime stats for at least a year, perhaps as many as three years. So these "trends" are merely blurry snapshots taken in the dark by a crappy 35mm kodachrome camera with a dirty lens.
Crime is up across the board. Maybe not in certain categories, but in grand totals and crimes per capita, the trends are easily observable.
Sometimes, even the untrustworthy FBI lets the truth slip out:
Assaults on law enforcement officers are at the highest level they have been in ten years, the FBI revealed. There were 79,091 total officers assaulted in 2023 — the highest number reported in a single year within the past ten, according to data from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program.
In 2023, the most common time these strikes occurred was during responses to simple assaults against non-officers, with 6,783 reported incidents, according to the FBI. Responses to drug/narcotics violations followed as the second most common instance of officer assaults, at 4,879.
Using firearms, assailants injured and assaulted approximately 466 officers in 2023, which is another ten-year high, the FBI reported.
More officers were feloniously killed at 194 total deaths between 2021 and 2023 than in any other three-year period within the past 20 years, according to the FBI. Sixty officers were killed in 2023, 61 officers in 2022 and 73 in 2021.
And that's (probably) without NYC, LA and Chicago numbers. It's almost never been more dangerous to be the police, and manpower issues are exacerbating the problem.

The frustration is palpable because these same shit human beings who celebrate bad things happening to law enforcement are the first to call 911 and scream for help when the criminals come for them.

Is it true that the CPD is cooking the crime stat books by reclassifying certain crimes into lesser offenses? I've heard catalytic converter theft is now considered "misplaced property." I recall a few years back a man was robbed at gunpoint of his backpack w/ laptop inside. The CPD decided that was misplaced property also.

Since government statistics are only as good as a government job can be, I wonder if insurance actuaries are a better source of data. If crime is down, premiums should be down (relative to Biden’s inflation anyway). There is no way the REAL market place is relying on crappy government data.

Statistics can always be manipulated to achieve what one wants to achieve. Failing to control the data coming in, versus what is not coming in, always leads to dubious results. How does such a “prestigious law enforcement agency” such as the FBI not include data from the three most populous US cities? Dem cities, at that. Have looked at some of their stats, and the methodology used to obtain such stats, totally incomplete, biased, and missing very important data. Most surprising was learning that many stats now do not reflect victim/offender demographics. Rape and sexual assaults being one of the most prevalent wherein data of victim/offender is missing. Any theories why that stopped being listed? Narrative didn’t fit the bill? Just asking for a friend.
Include St. Louis City in that list. Almost all of the large dem controlled cities are not reporting under the newish NIBORS system. Remember under Holder they changed the victim and assailant stats to get a better ratio in white on black assaults and murders. How they did it was if a Hispanic assaulted or murdered a Black, then it was listed under White on Black crimes but if a Black assaulted or murdered a Hispanic it was listed under Black on Hispanic crimes.

CPD has been slanting crime stats for as long as I was on the job, lately the reporting has gotten worse. CPD down grades every classification they can down to the lower statistic, it is a real joke! Death investigations on bodies found or recovered from hospitals, people shot not classified as AGG BATTs, very sad, the citizens need to know the truth but the politicians want to hide the truth.

How many casings would be recovered from shot spotter if officers actually did a real search for evidence of a shooting in casings or property damage? You all did it to yourselves. Just like writing one liners in old stop cards. Did it to ourselves. And now we pay the consequences of laziness once again by potentially losing shot spotter due to officers kicking the casings and clearing up.

In the 60's and 70's we had to do a case report on each shots fired call whether it was bonified or not. There were a bunch of case reports for almost all incidents before it was condensed into the GOCR and codes were used more. Perhaps we have to go back to that. A report for every job. Who cares if there is a backlog. Give the Liberals the Police they deserve. Use their rules against them.

I watch the water cannons they use in the EU. What they do with encamped protestors is sweet, The protestors sometimes get stripped naked, but they are hosed squeaky clean, the tents are piled up in one place for a front end loader, and the sidewalk loafs are all flushed down the storm drain.
