RIP Officer Bartholomew

Identify officially released:

  • The Chicago police officer fatally shot Saturday at a Lincoln Square hospital was identified as John Bartholomew, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Bartholomew, 38, was shot alongside another officer at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital, 5140 N. California Ave., by a robbery suspect who had been arrested earlier that morning, police have said.

No update was provided Sunday on the second officer, who has not been named. He was “fighting for his life” in critical condition, police Superintendent Larry Snelling said Saturday at a news conference outside Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where both officers were taken after the shooting.

More details to follow over the next few days.

Can we also address how SPCO Bianca Smith addressed the roll call room for 1st watch at OEMC by calling officers assholes. This is the hire ups that have taken over at OEMC

Non-Officer or LEO, but have Police, Detectives as neighbors. Still tears swell up as these bastards have no respect for law, authority or life itself. The Officer is with the Lord. With decent laws, judges, there was no need for this. No need at all.

RIP John & Condolences to his beautiful family!
Something needs to be done, this mutt was out on monitoring after committing several crimes he should have been housed for. These Judges and States Attorneys need to be held accountable! This crap no bail junk needs to be rescinded. It’s only there to get more federal funding for crime prevention programs like project hood etc. more criminals on the street= more crime=Money from Fed. These people need to be part of a lawsuit from the Governor, Mayor, Judges & States Attorneys office.

There was more context than “officers are assholes” and as the spouse and child of’em, PO’s CAN be assholes. Missing is how she went on to get emotional recalling one of the 10-1s she was part of and how she said how much dispatchers grow to care about the units.

Not negating that yes, some of the higher ups are not as caring to POs as others - not all supervisors or dispatchers hate the police. Some of them really, truly care about POs and their families and just want to see everyone go home.

As someone that was in SPCO Bianca Smiths roll call, her comments about Police being assholes were found to be disgusting and poorly timed. Many of us are the spouses, children and family members of CPD. The context of the rest of her speech became irrelevant the minute she laughed and called the police assholes, her fake tears do NOT negate what she said. Stop making excuses for her cop hating rhetoric.

God bless you John, I worked with you many times when I was a PPO 9 years ago. May our Lord Jesus be with you and your family you loved, you were so happy to share you got married and had a baby. You were an outstanding person that was respected, kind, smart and classy. I’m still shocked and hurt by this news and can only have faith and trust in our Lord about all of this.

Why would a SPCO be holding roll call? Why not the Watch Manager?

You must not be a dispatcher, because as someone who was also in that roll call, some of the units out there are in fact assholes. And that’s coming from someone’s whose spouse, parent, cousin, and aunt are CPD. People are assholes, regardless of their occupation - some are worse than others.

I’m heart broken as all hell this happened, my spouse personally knew Johnny B but don’t go throwing people shame because you can’t separate emotion from facts. My cousin was one of Yanez’ partners and my parent was at Bauer’s wedding.

We interrupted the statement very different ways, I as someone who works with them day in and day out - I love CPD, they do a thankless job, but sit on a zone for half a watch and your tone will definitely change.

I am in fact, a Dispatcher, also married to the police. Throwing out the names of deceased officers murdered in the line of duty doesn't negate what she said in roll call, nor does it make you right. Im not saying all officers are pleasant, however, she categorized them ALL as assholes. It was an unnecessary comment to make, especially in front of the Chaplin, who served with CPD for 30 years. It just showed her incompetence and unprofessionalism as a supervisor, and if you're defending her, you must be one of her buddies.
