Chicago Police Officer Nelson Crespo's family says he is still in the ICU, but the good news is that he is able to breathe on his own for several hours at a time, according to his doctors.
Now, the family is focusing on raising money to help support the injured officer. For Officer Crespo, the path to recovery may be long. But the support surrounding him is far from short.
"He just makes friends wherever he goes. He's just he's just a great guy," said Nancy Crespo, the officer's sister.
Nancy said doctors told their family that her brother is showing progress.
Any progress is good news.

Big problems coming out of area 1 prt. Heard a Sargent got into it with two new guys because of some car chase that wasn’t a chase but he ended up making it a chase, the Sargent even went to his cousin who is the Lt of the prt and even the Lt said it wasn’t a chase. But it ended up the Sargent pulled a CR on these new guys. Whole team upset because now they say he just throws his ppl under the bus. Not the first time either. Bunch of them sayin they don’t want to work for him anymore. For it to not be a chase but he lied and said it’s a chase just bc he doesn’t want it falling back on him. big rumor is he going to academy. Good luck to the academy. You can’t trust this guy. He has zero respect from his team. They walk over him all the time. If he’s going to be about it then be about it. Dont just act like you have authority.

I was wondering about the same thing. I am fully for supporting the officer and his family but the city should be providing that support. Clearly there will be additional needs with him not be present as a spouse and father but I sure hope the city is taking care of this man and his family

The Union can't do much in the way of finances for his recovery but any support they can give they will. The CPD will only go as far as they can via the Medical Section. I'm sure the Police memorial Foundation will step up at some point. There are still lots of things going forward financially that will not be covered by any of the above that's why we as P.O's, Retiree's, and supporters need to step up to help as well.

SCC, can anyone confirm that in order to do your yearly qualification at the range, you are required to bring your baton holder and baton? If you’re ASP trained, you are required to bring your ASP? What does your baton or asp have to do with weapon qualification?
