25 Years Young

The Bagpipes and Drums of the Emerald Society, Chicago Police Department are celebrating 25 years of service this month. There are a couple of events planned for late this month and we've been asked if we'd let people know. For full coverage, hop over to CopsinKilts.com. Here's a short summary:

    Wrigley Square at Millennium Park
    Recognition Ceremony
Presenting our band and the NY bands with awards
    45 minutes long

    Friday, 21 Sep
Welcoming Party @ Excalibur 2nd flr
$25 per person in advance & $30 at the door
    Open bar from 8p-11p
    Call (773) 803-7262

    The Main Event
    Saturday, 22 Sep @ 7pm
    25th Anniversary Tattoo (concert)
    Orchestra Hall - 220 S. Michigan
Performances by NYPD Pipes & Drums, the Police P&D of Bergen County NJ, Mullane Irish Dancers, the Larkin & Moran Bros, Catherine O'Connell and, of course, The Bagpipes and Drums of the Emerald Society, Chicago Police Department.
Tix are $25 & seating is General Admission. Buy tix at www.cso.org
Unfortunately, the only time many of us see the Unit in action is at an Honors Funeral or at the St. Jude's March. Here's a chance to see them perform in a more open and lighter setting.

I hope Jane Byrne will be invited. She was responsible for the return of the pipes.

Man those pipes suck. That horrible screaming noise they make. The whole idea of blowing into an animal stomach and squeezing the air out of it is demented. The bagpipe uses an animal stomach with whistles attached.

Just read in the sunt imes ahe is invited they invited asshole daley but he like the coward he is refused again! His mantra since he was a little boy "FUCK THE POLICE", that is why he never attends a St. Jude march, strangely though this year we had the esteemed PATRICK FITZGERALD there to honor our fallen, hmm maybe daley knows that soon Patrick Fitzgerald will corral his ass and do the right thing INDICT DALEY NOW!

Its so racist. You need to add the accordion to the band for our Spainish/Polish officers. The number of Irish officers is down so how about it?

Jane Byrne attended a line of duty funeral in 1982 where the New York Emerald Society played and decided we needed one ourselves, she should be honored at these upcoming events events.

I saw Jane at the LODD funeral of a coworker of mine, ISP, in 1986 and it was well known that Johns father, a city fireman, was supposed to be her mortal enemy when he was on strike in the early 80s. A class act to have done that and the pipers played there too

I think the pipers are great. It's traditional. One of the problems in our society is the loss of tradition. The pipes have meaning.
Jane did a good thing in bringing them back.

If Jane was still our beloved mayor, you would work your RDO" for nothing. God bless her always.

Every Cop that can make this event should be there for the Emerald society Pipes and Drums. They have been there playing 25 years for the events both happy and sad. These people are devoted to what they do and we as police should be thanking them by being in attendance at their event. Buy your ticket now on line. Thank You

Today there was a write up in the paper about this site...I have enjoyed reading it. You will find malcontents in every walk of life..you take them with a grain of sand, hopefully they make you thank God for what you have and carry on.

I wish the Emerald Society well on their anniversary and they are truly talented people.

God Bless you all and may He keep you safe and bring you home to your families every night.

Our department is very different from years ago.

We have many nationalities represented.

The time for a multicultural band should be implemented.

It's called tradition 1/2 wit.
So if we should adhere to your PC multicultural way of thinking,
The Marine Band "Presidents Own" should sport dreadlocks and hammer away on Steel drums & Bongos?

Apples and oranges. You must be a nit wit.

Tradition? Read a history book then respond.

The 25th Anniversary celebration concert was a huge success. The NYPD and New Jersey bagpipe bands were fantastic along with our very own Emerald Society Pipes and Drums. Thanks to everyone who was there and at the parade afterward. What a nite to be proud in Chicago!!!!!!
