Mike Mette Petition

*** UPDATE *** UPDATE ***

READ CAREFULLY! Barring a disaster that requires our attention (knock on wood), this post will be remaining at the top for the entire week. We are determined to get this petition a minimum of 10,000 signatures by Saturday 08 March 08. We will update signature totals occasionally so everyone can see how far we have to go.

ALL NEW POSTS WILL BE APPEARING BELOW

Original post follows - posted at 12:05 AM on 02 March 08
--------------------

Similar to what was done to bring national attention to the Hampton sign issue.
Please, use real names, keep it civil, and then forward it to all your family, friends and every name on any mailing lists you might have.

With 7,000 visitors a day, if everyone forwards this to half a dozen people they correspond with, we can get this to ten thousand within a week or so.

UPDATE: 02 March 08, early pm. Signatures so far - 1150. Mike's sister has thanked us and we have his latest address:
  • MICHAEL A. METTE, #6520284
    North Central Correctional Facility
    313 Lanedale Road.
    Rockwell City, IA 50579
UPDATE: 03 March 08, early am. Signatures - 2028. Twenty percent of our stated goal - we expect a BIG Monday push

UPDATE: 03 March 08, am. Signatures - 2250. The people running the petition are aware of the idiots putting in fake names. Remember, not only are there jackasses among our ranks, civilians read the board, too. We'd hope everyone would keep their senses of humor to themselves for the next week on this post.

UPDATE: 04 March 08, am. Signatures - 4300 and climbing. Forgot today was a holiday, so we'll assume everyone with unblocked computers at HQ will start forwarding the letter tomorrow and the larger push with start then.

UPDATE: 05 March 08, late pm. Signatures - 6,800. We seem to have hit a plateau of sorts and signatures are coming slower. Let's see if we can't get one more big push to get the signatures over 10,000...and not with BS that Mette's people are going to have to edit out later. One good day could give it the push we need.

Officer Mette got screwed by the 'justice system'.

It happens to many citizens, even to cops.

Most citizens who have been unjustly treated by the system have 'pled out', being charged with far more egregious offenses than the facts warrant, thus being effectively extorted into 'not rolling the dice'.

Officer Mette chose to 'roll the dice', trusting in the integrity and honesty of the justice system, and in the honesty and intelligence of those charged with the responsibility of rendering an honest and thoughtful verdict.

This is what our justice system has degraded into, a dice roll, a gamble, an extortion scheme, etc., all in the name of 'justice' and of 'keeping the peace'.

Our form of government, and, thus, our societal environment, depends upon the majority of citizens being honest, intelligent, fair-minded and essentially good-hearted human beings.

Most injustice stems from the fact that we, as a whole, have failed to live up to the ideals and principles we claim to believe in.

Do Unto Others As You Would Have Others Do Unto You.

There's a reason why this is called the Golden Rule.

It's worth it's weight in a substance far more valuable than gold.

What the fuck are you talking about moron? Are you still swimming in last night's $4 apple-tinis?

We were merely pointing out that this is an on-line petition exactly like the one we helped publicize. We aren't comparing the motivation, direction or outcome, just that it is a similar method of getting some support generated for Mette.

And that "dummy sign nonsense" was a slap in the face to all our dead brothers and sisters. The silence of the bosses was as deafening then as it is now. This isn't a slap - it's a kick in the teeth.

We'll state again for the record, we have zero to do with FOP, no matter how much you wish it was so. So crawl back into your bottle induced fantasy land, pull out that Reading Comprehension for Dummies book mommy bought you and try to do one worthwhile thing today...like sign the petition.

Unbelievable! To the flat-line brain-dead scum who wrote this: A petition such as the one proposed here by SCC merely serves to (hopefully)help focus more media attention on the incredible injustice that befell Mette. Why do you think the press keeps harping about Stacy Peterson and Lisa Stebic? Because people who care keep needling the press, and keep the issue alive! Wake up folks! Don't forget Mike! Another great job, SCC!

Why is it that when an offender claims his civil rights were violated, the Justice Dept and or FBI steps in to investigate? But when the victim in this case is a Police Officer, they don't do squat! And why wasn't there any national news coverage about this injustice? Why didn't FOP get to the national news media to bring light to this young officer's plight? It is amazing too, that the people of Iowa would stand by and let a police officer(reguardless of from what city, county, state) be railroaded like that.

While i totally agree with the intent of the petition, it's combining a request for FBI intervention, is inappropriate.

Keep these things seperate. On one hand you are asking a political entitity basically for a favor and in the same breath you are accusing it of wrongdoing.

Not the way to go.

the petiation is worthwhile, a significant effort to wright a terrible injustice; what I can't still understand is why the legal people in Iowa (prosecutors, defense people, judges) allowed blind adherence to the wording of the law obscure their vision of justice and common sense, a clear and practical apluication of the law to the facts...having said thta, one look at the list of people who have signed the petition: wow! a veritable who's who of law enforcement, criminal justice, families and supporters....folks who would make Iowa look like, well, you get the idea.....

why in great all logics sake is the FOP taking a back seat to this issue. We have supported the FOP in our voting and in our dues, but when it comes to issues of bad justice they are silent. Clearly it appears that criminals get more support than we do, ... its sad to see we need to "blog" for support, rather muster a campaign for justice, as many lawyers, analysts crime solvers etc in this department to solve crime we cant build a team to save a brother. ... yeah I know its been going on for years Im not saying anything new ..... just my Rant. signed.

Good luck with the petition.

I don't know if it matters, but Robert McCoy owns "Truck Country" not "Truck Company" and in Iowa prosecutors are county attorneys not D.A.'s.

I would hate to think that the petition would fail to influence the right people because of percieved innacuracies. I don't know the players up there, hope all the rest of it is correct.

Again, good luck, your guy got a raw deal.

"Public Intox" as a charge in Iowa is usually a sign somebody assed up.

It is stunning to me that they would send a cop to jail over there, especially in an iffy B.S. case like that. The Iowa judges don't usually believe in prison even for the worst offenders. Think they call it a "suspended sentence." Couple hundred pounds of weed in a rental car trunk would get most people one of those "suspended sentences" that means no jail.

I think a peaceful march to Iowa's capital with all the signatures would be a great idea.

I have a few sincere questions that I asked before and no one answered. Why didn't we hear about his when it happened? Why didn't we know about the trial? Why so last minute to try and help him? Perhaps something great could have been organized early on and with 1000 of us in court this sentence never would have happened? Also, I signed a petition in my district a month of two ago. It's still sitting there in the envelope with tons of signed petitions inside. Anyone coming to pick it up? Shouldn't they?

Mr. Mette took the time to mail me a large packet of legal documents, letters, etc. It took me a long time to read through them several times, then go back and pull out the facts. A lot of info on Michael's personal life.

The only two letters I have from people that tried to help the family: Supt Cline and Devine. This family tried reaching out to a lot of people.

It's a real helpless feeling when some people you vote for or even pay, don't help. There are people out here who won't do anything, maybe a few who just thrown in their 5 cents and others who won't do jack.

Remember that, god forbid, you're ever placed in a situation such as Michael's. It's a real b*tch of a place to be in.

P.s. I do not get paid nor get donations for my police memorial forum. It's something I run on the side.

i overheard sgt. "twisted testicle" tim & sgt. "rub one out" roy at midway airport talking about their commander may be on his way out and they are concerned if they go back to a district they may have a hard time being such micro management guys. hopefully if their commander leaves they will follow and continue their bootlicking careers.

They were razzed everytime they were seen walking out, side by side, dressed in their matching biege jackets.

After their buddy Jimmy cut out the supervisor's overtime, roy's moans were heard all the way to beverly bank.

Jimmy knows he just has to give tim a diet pepsi and he'll be happy.

Shakes has been drinking that low carb, no calorie, ICE malt 40.

I have signed the petition and asked many others to do the same. I just feel so bad for my fellow officer and feel even worse thinking that our new boss will never allow him a fair hearing to get his job back.

I can't imagine how Mike must feel but we are all praying for him in his time of need.

On behalf of Mike and the Mette Family, we appreciate the thousands of petitioners who have demonstrated their continued support.

However, be advised that the petition posting of CPD Supt. J.P. "Jody" WEIS (#375) and U.S. Senator Barack OBAMA (#2128), as well as several others, are BOGUS. Neither Obama nor Weis have offered any support for Michael whatsoever.

If anyone else has any complaint concerning a fictitious Internet petition posting, you may contact the Michael Mette Defense Fund (MMDF) at Ten1MM@aol.com. Upon confirmation and at your request, we will post a retraction/correction at this site.

After checking www.MikeMetteDefenseFund.com, you may also E-mail the MMDF Committee with any other questions or information concerning the Mette matter.

Thank you for your continued support.

the judge is making Michael take an anger management classes. one description of the class states:

AGGRESSIVE:
2. attacking - attacking or taking action without provocation or without waiting for an enemy to make the first move.

Nothing like a slap in the face from the very Judge that ruled he was not the aggressor!!

p.s. thanx jn

While i totally agree with the intent of the petition, it's combining a request for FBI intervention, is inappropriate.

Keep these things seperate. On one hand you are asking a political entitity basically for a favor and in the same breath you are accusing it of wrongdoing.

Not the way to go.

So, you're saying the FBI shouldn't have anything to do with local matters? Tell our boss!!!

And, of course, you always do what you're told, right?

To do otherwise would make you a bad boy, and you wouldn't want to risk getting spanked now, would you?

In excess of 13,000 CPD officers, almost all have family or friends and most have access to a computer. WHY is there not at least 26,000 signatures on MM's petition after almost one week?
