Iowa Media Covers Mette II
Another positive article from Iowa, The Dubuque Telegraph Herald:
DES MOINES -- An appellate court judge Thursday said it sounded "impractical and impossible" that Michael Mette could have walked away from a drunken college student in Dubuque nearly three years ago.
The former Chicago cop is accused of punching Jacob Gothard, 23, in October 2005, leading to a five-year sentence on a charge of assault causing serious injury. The Iowa Court of Appeals heard the case and will consider several options, including whether to uphold the Dubuque County District Court's decision, reduce the severity of the assault charge or throw out the case.
Does Kass have a follow up today?

i love mike... he is a stand up guy. by the sound of it this judge has his act together and is thinking straight. please, let a great man go, he is a great policeman and even better man. he is a husband, a brother, a son, and more important a great policeman.. mike is the kind of person that give police officers a good name. he is a man that does his job like an officer should, by the book and is just... the way the law should be. it has brought tears to me to see this young man brought before a judge and a jury and found to prison. to the judge and public..let this man, and a fighter of st. michael do his work among the angels. fr. Thomas Cook.
I believe that SCC means the DUBUQUE (NOT DesMoines) Telegraph-Herald, the town of "Judge" Ackley, "persecuter" Gallagher, the Gothards and Mike's original lawyer.
Don't blame the good people of Iowa for the actions of these five vicious dirtbags.
Our thanks to retired Officer John Ryan for representing his NYPD brothers and sisters at the court in DesMoines, particularly on the seventh anniversary of 9/11.
Let's pray that Mike is released as soon as possible.
I don't care who covers it as long as Mike goes free, and J-Fed keeps his PROMISE to rehire Mike on CPD! Let's see if he is a man of "his word"!
You officers, as well as myself, live in one of the most corrupt states in the union, Illinois. Also one of the most corrupt county's and citys, COOK and Chicago.
One judge convicted Mike Mette in Iowa. Sept. 11 hearing is the first opportunity for anyone in the Iowa Judiciary to respond to the trial judges decision.
So all of you idiots who want to band together, take the long boats cross the Mississippi River and start an attack with your black power rifles on Iowa City and proceed west, RELAX, stop talking stupid.
A handful of people railroaded Mette, not the entire state. Lets wait and see how things go
A retired New York City cop sat in the front row of the courtroom to support Mette and his family on the same day that the nation honored his fellow fallen officers on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
John Ryan, 63, who moved to Chicago after he retired in 2002, said many of his former colleagues in New York are concerned about Mette's case.
"Mike Mette worked in (the) most violent, crime-ridden district in Chicago before (the) incident," he said. - Dubuque Telegraph-Herald, September 12, 2008
A little aside, what kind of thank you is being considered for Kass when this all works out well. I mean in a day and age were it's the thing to beat on the Police, Kass took up Mike's cause...We know CPD won't do it, probably FOP won't..Can we start something here???

Didn’t FOP get the bus set to go to Iowa? Didn’t they announce it every day for a week on the current updates screen? They are not prefect but what do you want? Better than that, how do you get it? Collectively we are already doing nothing now for this mayor and this superintendent. We do not have the right to strike. The arbitration process has been effect long enough that you can almost tell what week stuff will be settled. So go sit and hold you breath till you turn blue. Maybe that worked with your momma. I will not do shit for this city till they free Cozzie. And I don’t even like him. But it could you or me tomorrow. The city loves when we break ranks. We are at war with them if you realize it or not.
P.S. Kass is the only reporter in this city to stand up to Daley. All of the rest of them drink Daley's cool aid. Stop buying the scum times.

Someone asked me about the Judge in Michael's case.
The Mette family had a judge all set to hear Michael's case that was known to be impartial. That judge was replaced last minute, with no explanation.
Michael's first lawyer and his father, a fellow lawyer, contributed to the (new) judge's campaign.
When Mike's dad sent me all copies of everything, I read this and asked him if he filed a complaint against the judge and initial lawyer. Mouse said he would get with the their (new) lawyer and file a complaint for what seems a conflict of interest in this case.
What's also interesting is that supposedly mike was offered some "deal" and from what i was told, mike was not made aware of it from the goofball first lawyer.
I have copies of a letter from Michael to the first lawyer asking about such a deal, since he was never told about it.
Also have copies of letters from Supt Cline and Devine, on behalf of Mike trying to help him out...
I know the media won't check into this since I'm a nobody and not with the CPD, City Hall, etc. Oh well. I tried...
P.s. I have numerous letters from Michael. he reminds me of what the majority of Chicago cops are all about. This man has been totally screwed in every way, yet maintains a dignified positive attitude and is hopeful.
I love that. Who does that remind of you of???? Uh... the majority of our blue.
That is a great idea to acknowledge John Kass for his objective and balanced reporting of the Mike Mette injustice. I think the FOP should do something on all of the CPD's behalf. A plague and a brief ceremony would be nice.
Kass definitely deserves some recognition for being the only journalist in Chicago who gives the police a fair shake.
St. Michael is watching over Mike Mette. He'll be OK.

While a plaQue would be nice, I doubt that Mr. Kass (or anyone else for that matter) would appreciate a case of the plaGue.

John Kass is a gentleman and a scholar.
Let's give Lord Shortshanks the PLAGUE instead. Bubonic sounds good for openers.

WhOoops,my mistake. This is what happens when you don't proofread and just post. I agree 100% that Mr. Kass deserves a plaque and not a plague,lol...
Hummmmmmm why was there only on gold star on the bus trip ....
On behalf of Mike and his parents, we wish to convey their heartfelt gratitude to all of those who traveled to DesMoines for the SRO courtroom hearing Thursday morning.
Bob and Patti visited with Mike twice before returning home from Rockwell City.
