Park in the Rain

Or maybe just start bringing our own buckets, rags, brushes and towels:
  • Has anyone see the daily bulletin for 12 Sept 08? There are only THREE car wash facilities CITYWIDE. [...] The city can't pay the bills.

    Here they are:

    1231 W Grand

    3540 W Halsted

    349 W 31st.
Don't waste those open hydrants either.

Or the ever popular standby - Sharking!

UPDATE: We know Halsted runs N/S. We copy and pasted this from the comments. We seldom alter the quoted comments for spelling and grammar unless we really need to clarify the language.

From some districts it will take over an hour to get a wash at min. I'll bet the average for a far district will be 90 minutes of down time. So it will really cost about $60.00 for a car wash with that kind of down time and the cost of gas. The city is really going to save money by doing this, Another knee jerk reaction. Think things threw boss, Think think and then think it all the way threw.

Back in the 90's the City had an agreement with all their vendors to agree to delayed repayment to the tune of over 90 days! That means if they purchase something in August the vendor won't be paid til November sometime. It's like writing yourself an interest-free loan. Now it's worse...sometimes like more than 4 months. Who could wait that long to get their money. This entire city sucks. Wall Street Journal calls Chicago the most corrupt city in the USA.

The car wash facility change is welcome news. I will now take one hour, at least, out of each day to go get a car wash and maybe some Italian pastries on Grand Ave. I couldn't have planned it better if I tried!

Stop complaining! You all now have an excuse to go get lost for at least an hour. I will go at the tail end of morning rush hour, that should take me some time and I can have a real nice field trip.

Remember, always look on the bright side of life.

To those who like to drive around in a clean squad, next time your at 26/cal drive around to 31st street just west of california ave. At the guard post, pull in and you will see a big sign that says "car wash". Pull up and have the community service people wash it. It's great for the wagons and cars with all the gadgets attached to the roof of some cars. It's even better for the vehicles with the 50mm guns on the roof, etc. etc.

Were paying for these goofs who were convicted for DUI's and related stuff like that.

Now if you want to notch it up a bit, you bring a can of wax and they will wax your ride. (sorry, government vehicles ONLY)

There open seven days a week.

Here's what makes no sense. The police dept. has (lets say) 4000 cars to wash. Regardless of the number of car washes they have contracts with, there is still the same number of cars to wash.
I can't imagine they save that much money writing 3 checks instead of 15 like they used to.
Personally, I'd get the car washed at least 3x a week and be held down for at least an hour each time.

OK folks, lets do the math and see how much the city saves....

According to Mapquest from 015 to 1231 W Grand (closest car wash) is 7 miles one way and 14 minutes to get there....So...

Total MINIMUM time for a wash will be 45 minutes, times 20 MARKED cars in the district = 300 minutes, or 5 HOURS total time down on washes.

Now, lets say the city picks up the gas for $3.80 a gallon and the cars get about 11 miles a gallon/city.
So around 1 1/3 gallons of gas per car times 20 cars, times $3.80 a gallon is $101.31 in gas + 5 hours salary of about $33/hour (average)
=$165.00 salary = $266.31. Now we figure $5.25 a wash (discounted rate) times 20 cars = $105.00 worth of washes. (Notice the wash only costs slightly more than the gas to get there)

So a GRAND TOTAL of $371.31 to get 20 cars washed.(That's $18.57 each)

I would encourage EVERYONE to get their cars washed as often as possible!.!.!.!.!
