More Money Pissed Away

  • A newly released audit by David Hoffman's investigators allegedly found that vast amounts of medications "sat unused and expired" because of city staff's failure to properly manage the warehouse.

The internal auditors also said the poor tracking left them unable to determine what happened to 92,000 doses of 18 vaccines worth at least $639,000.

"A large number of vaccines could have been stolen or misplaced in 2007 and [Health Department officials] would not have known it," Hoffman wrote in a letter sent to Mayor Richard Daley today. "The records simply do not allow [the Health Department] or [Hoffman's] auditors to determine where the vaccines went."

Perhaps someone is selling these medicines on the sly to fund bribes for a certain large sporting event scheduled to take place halfway through the next decade? After all, there's no way to tell. And the security, storage and tracking at this warehouse lends an air of no confidence to ever using a City Health Clinic for any citizen. We wonder why the media, churches and reverends aren't up in arms over that - unless they're so beholden to the Machine that they....oh right, Chicago, Daley...we forgot for a second.

When the 8th child of an unemployed, Section 8, Link Card and W.I.C.-abusing 23 year-old single mom, convicted felon develops whooping cough, trench-mouth, lockjaw or the omni-present asthma, some slick-ass lawyer will file suit against the City on the child's behalf, claiming it all could have been prevented had the free health care and medicines "owed" to the kid been provided in a timely, safe and professional fashion.

The City will pay-out bigtime, and "mama" will be driving the Bentley she so richly deserves.

The vaccines were most likely from the "Vaccine for Children" program, a federal immunization program which provides free immunizations to children with medicaid or who are uninsured. Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) manages the fed subsidized program.

The vaccines are paid for with federal taxpayer dollars and the feds do need to be notified about the loss/theft of more than one-half million dollars of vaccine.

The expired medications were most likely paid for with city of chicago taxpayer dollars. Access to affordable medications is a serious health issue these days with estimates of more than one-third of the city of chicago being uninsured or underinsured.

Persons with diabetes, hypertension and other chronic and acute disease processes could have received the benefits from the pharmaceuticals if they had not been allowed to expire.

Additionally, I wonder if the medications allowed to expire were antibiotics or other agents to treat the effects of biological weapons? Is this a warehouse used to stockpile emergency antidotes or other medications used to counter biological weapons?

So yes, the feds do need to investigate. The city does need to be accountable.

Lastly, Mayor Daley commands five city mental health clinics to close because of what he cited as "cost", (when in fact, it was later discovered that the City did not bill the state properly and thus lost millions of dollars in revenue to support the clinics. Then CDPH mismanagement is responsible for the loss of what could be over a million dollars of medications.

Where is the fiscal responsibility and oversite of these valuable health care resources?

Instead of micromanaging the police dept, why doesn't Daley take a serious look at all of his management systems, including CDPH? ... something is terribly wrong with the management infrastructure in the City of Chicago.

SCC,

I am shocked that you missed the huge story here. This story is not just about waste and mismanagement, but Homeland Security.

If this warehouse was so accessible that hundreds of thousands of dollars of drugs, medical supplies and vaccines could walk off; how about someone introducing a biological or chemical agent into the supply?

Imagine what could have occurred if terrorists introduced a pandemic strain of the bird flu or the hunta virus or the ebola virus?

This is beyond unspeakable and makes the 14 year old police impersonator story pale by comparison.

Our resident security/terrorist expert, Superintendent Jody Weis, has his hands full with security breaches.

There is NO possible way that Chicago is prepared to host an international event like the 2016 Olympics.

J-Fed should definitely bring the Feds in on this one. The potential for untold catastrophe in this one is mind boggling.

THIS WAS A MAJOR BREACH OF HOMELAND SECURITY.

Hey , let's not forget the Messiah's stimulus package which has no hope to stimulate anything except the drug market.
WHY..WHY...WHY would you call it a stimulus package when the bulk of the funds are going to people who have no hope or desire to stimulate the economy.
When you continue to give a stray cat milk , they will keep coming back for more and more nd more ...thereby losing any motivation or desire to provide for themselves....
EXAMPLES:
003,005,006,007,011,015...not to forget, Detroit, LA, Harlem NY...

Nice Job, Democrats. You bought the Bull Shit and I hope you can afford it...I can't

The Chicago area lost $79 billion in home values in 2008, and nearly half of that loss was during the fourth quarter, according to the latest report from real estate Web site Zillow Inc. to be released today.

Yet the DumocRats of CRook County continue to insure that your property taxes escalate. I thought property taxes were in direct proportion to your homes value?

I beg to differ with HATER who is obviously a complete idiot ... Some the investigators Hoffman hired are retired CPD with great investigative skills ... I think regrets the day he hired Hoffman because now when stuff like this comes up he is stuck, and embarrassed ... If only they would let him investigate wrongdoings by the aldermen ... this city might have to clean up it's act ... and now he is stuck. I know Hoffman and he is not going to swayed by politicians ... they really better watch out ...

the point is waste and mismanagement by the city. keep your eye on the ball.

You need to log onto to the Civic Federation of Chicago website for the bad news about out pensions. Everything you ever needed to know from a glossary of terms to the actual funding itself. Read it and weep. Current employees may be OK but future hires should have reason to be concerned.

Here is the link to Civic Federation's report on city budget and our pension:
http://www.civicfed.org/articles/civicfed_221.pdf

..."The city of Chicago's unfunded pension liabilities surpass all large cities in the
United States by BILLIONS of dollars," said Msall. "This is a situation which requires
immediate action; city officials cannot rely upon future asset sales alone to fix this problem.

Wow,

Former Gov. Rod Blagojevich said this morning that he had been offered--and rejected--an offer to stay on as "an incapacitated governor" if he agreed not to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated by President Barack Obama.

Appearing on NBC's "Today" show, Blagojevich said the offer to become "a ghost payroller" was made in December by "leading senators" but did not say specifically by whom.

He said was given the opportunity to "keep my pay for two years, keep my security detail for two years." He provided no other details.

Is this when Senator Harry Reid was calling Blago and shortly after the wire got pulled ASAP. This gets better by the day, tell all Rod. Rod might be our hero yet.

The PPO charges you full boat for your child's rutine vaccinations. Each round will charge you about $1000!

Being CPD, I am UNDER-insured.

If you have a PPO and well child care and immunizations are not covered...your child can receive immunizations (very expensive) by going to a Chicago Department of Public health "fast track" clinic. No appt necessary.

You can also request a serum lead test to be done, free of charge. Lead tests are recommended annually for all children 12 months of age through six
years of age living in the city of Chicago.

This is especially important if you live in a home or apartment bldg built prior to 1975. Childhood lead poisoning causes irreversible brain damage which manifests itself by developmental delays, behavior problems, deafness and other neurological symptoms.

It is conveniently forgotten, of course, that there was a BUSH BANK BAILOUT AND A STIMULUS PACKAGE passed by the REPUBLICAN administration even prior to the presidential election ! The stimulus money by and large was banked and stimulated no one.

Even worse, we are still learning that the bank bailout money has been used to keep the billionaire bankers living, traveling and partying in extreme luxury and wallowing in multi-million dollar bonuses. I guess you believe this is an appropriate use of tax money?

You can't name a politician right now who isn't part of the problem, by just collecting a paycheck. They are more a problem than they are a solution !

US Congressman Ron Paul-R,Texas

Look him up and spend sometime reading about him. He has written several books all detailing all of this nonsense well in advance. He was demonized as a kook in the Presidential Election cycle.

The funny thing is now that it is too late people are paying attention and realizing he was correct. He opposed the bailout by the way. AmeriKa is going to have an inevitable economic crash.
