St. Baldricks Reminder

Coming soon:
  • Pitchers and catchers report in 12 days, shavees report in 34 days. It’s not too late to sign up for St. Baldrick’s.

For those unfamiliar with St. Baldrick’s it is a fund raiser for childhood cancer research and this is the second year CPD is getting together with St. Baldrick’s to help raise money for this cause. You register as a shavee and raise pledges in return for getting your head shaved or for those with hair longer than 12 inches you can donate the hair to be used to make wigs for the kids who lose their hair to chemotherapy.

Go to www.stbaldricks.org and click on find an event, then type in Chicago police under venue. From there you will have three choices, the Academy, Area 2, and Area 5, all of which will be hosting the events from 0700 -1700 hours on Friday, March 6th. Once you choose your location, click on “be a shavee” and follow the on line instructions for signing up.

Once you sign up, you get your own web site and you’ll get an e-mail with details on how to fund raise. If you have any questions, send me an e-mail at chromedome1269@sbcglobal.net.

    Thanks!

I here there are more choices than that, Bill and look for places in your zip code or nearby and see who's having an event that's fun, its for Adults and for charity for Christ sake. Lets have fun at the workplace so I can make my department or boss look like we are one big happy family with out a contract No Thank You. I will think for myself on this one and is this my time not department sponsored time off ???? Get a clue people. U will see me at FADO or some other local neighborhood establishment who is sponsoring the event enjoying myself..So suc it you company drones keep towing the company line, right up until you are COZZIED by the Fed..

If you don't have any hair you can volunteer to help at one of the events or make a donation, or find another way to help out this or a cause of your choice.

Yes there are a multitude of locations to participate in St. Baldrick’s events so by all means if you feel better participating at a different location please do, it’s about the kids, not the department.

SCC -

Can you please let me respond to the Anonymous poster on 3 FEB 09 at 0302 hours? Thank you.

First, let me start by saying that while I am not a frequent visitor to this, and I have been accused more times than not of posting stuff here, I will let you know who I am so you can come and address anything I say in person. The three or four other times I have posted on here I have always left my name. You, by leaving your comment, and in the way it was written, without your name are pretty much a coward. You're the type of person who uses this site as the bathroom wall.

If you do not want to go to one of the three locations that we (the CPD) are having, Area 5, Training Academy, and Area 2 then certainly go somewhere else. I will not knock you for your motivation and sacrifice to shave your head for all the kids with cancer in a show of support. That is, after all, why you are doing it - correct? It is for the kids, and I hope you remember that. So I hope you DO go to Fado, they will have another awesome event, and I hope you raise money, get a buzz, and help the cause. I believe most people say "until we find a cure"

However, I can not sit back and allow you to call Bill O'Reily, and indirectly me, (and AZ) company drones who "suc" and tow the "company line" because we are trying to plan the event to make it easier for ALL/ANY of the CPD to get involved. The only thing the "company" has done is allowed us the use of the facilities - they do own and control them, I know you did not forget that. So, yes we had to ask to be allowed to hold the event, as did the CFD, so we all must be company guys/gals according to your logic.

Again, I do not care about how you feel about us, or the CPD sponsored events, as long as you get involved, then things are okay with me. These kids deserve the support and that is what I am trying to do for them, finding others who will support them down around Area 2. I am going out of my way to help make it easier for ANYONE to help out, a volunteer, a shavee, a barber, etc...anyone who wants to lend a hand who lives south. Perhaps if Saint Baldrick’s was around longer I would not have to have seen my Mom, a sister and a brother die from cancer, who knows?

I am sure I will not be “Cozzied” by the Superintendent for hosting an event, but I do share your caution and anger over that incident. However, I took an oath almost 13 years ago, just like my great-grandfather, grandfather, and dad all did and I intend to honor that oath. So I will not lay down, but trust me, if I was ever presented the chance to speak out on anything about this job, ANYONE who knows me would tell you that I would be first in that line. So, “Company line” guy, I am not....motivated person who believes in Saint Baldrick’s and the kids it honors, yes. Just like Bill, AZ and the hopefully hundreds of other CPD members who come out on March 6th.

Sorry for the long rant but you have hit a nerve. If you want to talk to me about anything I have said, or you have said, please feel free to contact me. It does not have to be a grade school threat thing like I’ll take you out back, instead, I will talk with you and debate anything you would like. If we cannot settle our differences that way then maybe we can still go out back if you’d like. Again, it is not about you, not about me, not about Bill O, and certainly, it is not about the CPD. It is about the kids with cancer. If you do not want to do it with your co-workers, your brothers/sisters in blue, then by all means, do it somewhere else. Just do something positive. You have already proven you’re one of the ones who likes to dwell on and only do negative stuff.

Until we find a cure...

I don't have any kids close to me that have/had cancer. But I do have numerous friends who have battled cancer and more than I care to name, lost that battle.

I decided to sign up, if only to do a small part. But, try as I might, I couldn't get any of the guys in A/4 to join me. Ladies, it's only hair. Just think of all that time you'll save. Besides, some men like bald women!

The only people I'm doing this for is the kids. If you feel so inclined, go to the website and make a donation in my name....
