Tickets for Everyone

Reports are that the officer who shot the attacking German Shepherd Dog recently, was herself, the owner of an unlicensed dog. She was ticketed, same as the offending dog's owner.

In these days of anti-police sentiment, constant second guessing and bosses that "have your back," please make sure you are 100% legit all the time. Valid driver's license, FOID, proper plates, city stickers, no outstanding parking tickets or water bills, etc. Any and every rule violation is going to be revealed and you are going to get smacked for it.

We don't think they increased the size of the Auditing and Internal Control Division to hand out certificates for being in compliance.

How about we all stop doing any work, put our guns away and let the public feel what a void it would be without pro active police.

The other benefit would be that the scum times wouldn't have a need for Frank Main. The goof may actually have to work on real stories, or pick up a broom and do some janitorial work over there.

Its only $5 for the license and you can get it on the city's website with current rabies vaccination info, both required by law. It wont even take 10 minutes.

So now the copper gets nailed twice. First off, she'll get nailed for the citation for not having the dog licensed. Then, there was most likely a CR initiated against the PO for failing to follow laws, rules, ordinances etc.

Not much chance either one will be exonerated, not sustained, or unfounded.

This will cost her dearly!

Is this a citywide thing...or just another golden egg that Henny Penny has laid? I won't even BEGIN to discuss all of the problems with this little idea...they are quite obvious. WTF???

See, this is the part of the job I love. You make a traffic stop and the driver produces an expired license: "Oh, I've just been soooo busy I haven't had a chance to renew it. Can't you give me a break."

Your just about to hang a parker when the vehicle owner comes running up to you. "Where's your city sticker?", you ask. "Oh, things have been tight financially, officer. I haven't been able to afford it. Can't you give me a break?

You get a disturbance call. Man is arguing with a S&S tow driver. You show up to find not only the tow driver but also a Dept of Revenue employee who just removed a Denver boot from the car about to be towed because of 2 unpaid parking tickets. When you question the owner, he admits that he hasn't paid the tickets. When asked why, he states, " I've been on vacation. I was going to take care of them when I got back." CAN'T YOU GIVE ME A BREAK!!!

Do I get any breaks from the department if they find out my DL has expired? I didn't buy a new city sticker or if I haven't paid my outstanding parkers?

Anyone know why retro checks are taxed at a higher rate than regular paychecks ? if it's money owed to us for regular pay , why tax at a higher scale ? if the city started taxing us on duty availability and uniform allowances, shouldn't we be getting 2 different retro checks - regular pay and over time, taked at different rates??

It doesn't matter what taxes are taken out of your retro check...your tax rate is based upon the income you earn during the year and whatever deductions you may have. If too much was taken out of your retro check, then you will get it back at the end of the year when you file your tax return.

Watching the PODS are now managed by a private security firm. Retired officers have to work for the security firm and are not city employees. They can, and will, hire who they want. No surprise here. Don't forget when the city fired all of the chicago officers at the park district security, they made a chicago police Lt. head of security and then he gave some of the work to his secret security company. he rest went to a connected security firm. No surprise here either. Just how business is done in the town.

Thought the city taxed the retro checks at the rate of 25% probably to keep people from possibly owning money because this would be in addition to your regular check. Not sure but think the city also charges you at a higher rate for uniform allowance and arent all uniform allowance checks the same

-------------------------------
Not taxed higher just different, your payroll check has non taxable deductions and then the tax is taken, when you get a check like a retro that is concidered income there are no pre tax deductions so it seems higher. example $1000. with pre tax deductions of $200 the tax deduction will be for $800. a check for $1000. with no pretax deductions is taxed at $1000, so the take home amount will be less than if there were pre tax deductions

I had a dealer loaner car at work and got written up for no city sticker by a district sgt. I waited until he finished all the paperwork and asked him to look at the car again, this time with me present. I pointed out the metal city sticker affixed to the front plate and asked him to include the info in his report. He had a fit and wanted to know why I didn't tell him before he did the paperwork. I told him I was just keeping him from acting stupid with people that had to work under him.

To answer the "higher tax" question - it's not the city, it's feds.

They take the check that your receive (lets say $1000 of pay, and $500 in back pay) and multiple to make an annual salary.

So... $1000x52 = 52,000... they use the tax rate for 52,000.

$1500x 52 = 78,000 ... they use the tax rate for 78,000.

It all comes out next year when you do your taxes and get your refund...but you've loaned the gov't the money in the meantime.

Stinks doesn't it?

No it won't, its a bs beef, the most important thing is she called in she shot the dog, the rest is nonsense that will go away. It's much easier just to get the license. You can bet there will be a suit against her and the City for sure though.. If the officer is smart she will be preparing her own suit against the dog owner for being negligent in not properly securing her animal and causing undue stress and mental anguish, caused by the incident.

So why should we get a break for not being 100 percent with things like a simple dog license, PO did what she thought she had to do and shot the dog, but she didn't have her dog licensed, why not? Because she is a CVop. I'm not at all anti police but after 30 plus years on this job, we need to grow up.

What are the benefits of licensing my dog? (From clerk's site)

1) A portion of the money from registration fees adds to City funds directed to Animal Care & Control
-->YAH, 1 TRUCK WORKING CITY-WIDE, (MAYBE); KIND OF LIKE THE R-MAN THESE DAYS.....

2)Your dog’s registration tag assists in finding your lost pet. The person who finds your dog calls our office at 312-744-DOGS with your registration number (on your dog’s tag).
-->THE NUMBER ON THE RABIES TAG ALREADY DOES THAT.

3)Your dog must be registered with the city when taking it to an animal care facility that boards or provides dog daycare services.
--> DONT USE.

4) Dog registration is used to obtain your required permit to enter Chicago Park District
dog-friendly area.
-->DON'T USE.

So what is the benefit to me again?

Got to love it when most of us don't do anything for the City (other than this job)and your wife and kids don't work for it either, that they can try to pull something like this.
