Second City Construction

So it seems that General Services sent out an e-mail stating that the amazing collapsing station in 001 will have the center structural wall with the 4 inch cracks rebuilt so as to avoid further political embarrassment. The letter went out the day after this video was posted on our site.

We also received some updated photos from this post on 07 May

Reports are that General Services sent plumbers and electricians into 011 to take down the "drip trays" and actually repair the wiring that was somehow mixed with the water, leading to what the IBEW calls a "bad idea."

A month or so ago, we told the tale of the main door to E&RPS being non-functional for three years and that week, there were all sorts of contractors over there fixing it.

We can only conclude that the Policy Group, Mike Masters, and J-Fled himself are reading the blog, looking for construction projects to finish.

We're going to open the comment section for readers to list any and all repair jobs that have been neglected for years, even decades, and we'll see how many things we can get fixed. But don't go posting "my basement," or "my 180,000 mile pool car." We only want to list things that have a realistic chance of being repaired, like that dip on the 5th floor that Masters like to roll marbles on.

Awesome job, SCC!!

Good to see that a long time problem is finally getting addressed.

Now can you manage to raise some questions about the severe manpower shortage in 001? For instance, the 3rd watch usually has all one-man beat cars (with no rapids, ever) and quite often they can't even fill the ten primary beat cars. It's common to have one or two downed beat cars each day.

Running only 8 or 9 one-man cars is truly a recipe for disaster, especially in an area where one million people work each day. Then you have the expanding residential buildings in the south Loop and a lot of people live there now. It's no wonder that the South Loop residents have to chase down robbery offenders themselves, like they did a month or two ago. And that was only 2 blocks from the station. But hey, let's spend $96 million developing worthless, screwed up land on the south side instead of hiring more police. BTW, how's that big housing/shopping development plan on the land of the old Michael Reese hospital going these days?

Unbelieveable.

I have been thinking about that crack in the wall in the 1st District. They should make a You-Tube video of an escaping prisoner who slithers through the crack. Have cops chase somebody up and down the halls, he hides in a closet, then makes a break for the wall. Then pull an inflatable dressed dummy through the crack as the cops watch astonished.

They gawk and say "He gonnnne!"

PLEASE, PLEASE fix the pipes in the main female locker room in the basement in 011 (the one with the bathrooms). There has been sewage leaking from the ceiling right by the door for YEARS. There are stains running down the wall. Exposure reports have been done for officers that have been dripped on. Also, there is no hot water in the female locker room. There is also a large crack from floor to ceiling in the 011 lockup. The 011 lockup is also infested with cockroaches (very bold ones I might add). Every restroom in the station reeks of mold, and God knows how much asbestos is lurking in the walls. PLEASE fix these things...I have already made some calls to some agencies that deal with these unhealthy workplaces, so I really hope the department gets the ball rolling.

OT-CBS nationwide news beat J-Fled over the head and shoulders with the Newark Police comparison. The short guy ain't gonna let this turn uglier this summer without making changes. Marketing 101- when you need to sell the same old shit , repackage it and add "new and improved" to the box and "under new management" to the windows at da 35th bigtop.

He must address the failures of J-Fool to give some illlusion of hope to the blacks and hispanics and yuppie victims in this shithole. The news has also today warned that no teen will be able to find a "part time" summer job this summer. You know what that means. They will be on the streets getting shot, shooting and wilding like nobody's business with a bunch of hair gels driving around 99 who don't know shit. Bawhahahaha

What a colossal embarrassment this city's crime problem has become under J-Jag. The newark police chief has a great relationship with his officers and that made every difference in the world. Why can't the news mention that even the mayor did not admitt (in an interview) that he actually "liked Jody Weis. He skirted the issue and that will be the kiss of death for this chump.

We keep hearing a remodel is in the works for the past 2-3 years....but the wall keeps soaking up water daily from the crappy plumbing job on the several times repaired leaky faucet. Also the huge glass skylite over the atrium leaks during heavy rains. The solution? They move one of the enormous live plants into the middle of the walkway under the leak to catch & water the plant. What a joke. Today I noticed they finally got around to having the elevators inspected. New certificates are dated March 2010. Previous ones were dated August 2006!

No, but somebody could always meet you by the back door would be easiest give you a copied with the names blacked out ( for obvious reasons). I wouldn't blame police supervisors for the lack of manpower. They have no control over who gets hired / retires.

Blame city council & your mayor. They determined how many get hired and spend our tax money.

Can I as a citizen along with other concerned citizens visit your district, demand to speak to a watch commander and ask to see a roster of all the beat cars assigned? If what you say is true, then your supervisors and ultimately the Mayor needs to be held accountable."

Third Watch in 001 is almost non-existent. Lately we've been running around eight 99 cars and one wagon IF we are lucky. With summer coming up the foot teams will be detailed to whatever fest is happening and the entire district will be in the hands of a few officers. Throw in a few shoplifters which happens every night and there are no cars available. Its only a matter of time before someone gets hurt for lack of backup.

"What we need is a clone of Irv Kupcinet. He would be ripping Shortsahnks, Toddler and every other politician and political hire a new ass. He was the hero of the citizens of Chiraq."

Irvy also was hipp to the celebrity scene at the Ambassador East Elbow Room -- quite the dapper dude. Little known rumor: Irv gave Mike Royko a black eye once during a Scum-Times/Daily News softball scrum back in '71. Don't know who Shortsahnks is, but he'd have gotten hell from ol' Irv.

If the city want's to save money they should eliminate the "Administrative Manager" at the Academy. Since she is always at "meeting" that is why the parking spot is open. I understand it is her fault that the ammunition budget is messed up. Why is she allowed to bring her kids to work? It is rumored that she has a department computer at home so she could work from home. Can I take a squad home and answer calls from my house?

In 011/A/4 the ceiling tiles fell down from water leaks. After getting no service for that leak several tiles fell and hit a Det. The city answer was to place a larger blue trash can for 2 weeks. Bathroom urinals that run or leak, sinks that leak water constantly. Oh and you can't do anthing about Sgt J.T. he just a moron, thank god he can't get promoted.

One thing you all have to remember. This building and all other ones were built by outside contractors that were overseen by nothing but politicians from the city appointed to jobs that they are not even remotely qualified for. That's why the city has to continuously bring in their own departments to fix this shit work, and yes it is all at a cost to us taxpayers not once but twice.
