The rumor on the Federal wire is true. It seems some gangsta exempts may be in trouble soon. The wire can't be shut down cuz the Feds are running it. I see some openings in the exempt ranks soon. Once again, do not put yourself on the line for these foolish bosses. Many are corrupt and most don't possess the necessary ethics to work in law enforcement. To most of our older members, "Joe D." is synonomous with the 1979-1980(?) acting superintendent of police, Joseph "Joe" DiLeonardi.
But at that same time, there was a blossoming soon-to-be up and comer in the department, who was less commonly known as "Joe D.". His name is Joseph "Joe" DeLopez.
Time marches on and in the mid to late 1990's, the moniker was essentially reassigned and transitioned to commonly stand for the then up and arrived Joe DeLopez, now a retired Deputy Superintendent of CPD and current Chief of Police in Winnetka, IL.
I'd take Ramsey or Grau in a heartbeat!

If any black brass would be on a wire, betting money's on Carothers and/or Brown. I don't see any scandal awaiting Alexander, Williams, Skahill or JJ.
While Brown has considerable political support, not many people would shed a tear if Carothers were to go away, either quietly or in chains.

Based upon the demotion/reversal of demotion on Lopez, and the recent large numbers of Latino merit promotees to lieutenant, it would appear that Hispanics are poised to hold the reins of the CPD in the very near future. Daley is clearly putting a large cache of eggs in the 'chorizo' Omelet!
Don't look for either Ramsey or Grau to return. Daley treated them both shitty in the eclipse of their careers, and they won't forget that. I don't see Ramsey ever returning to work for the CPD unless Daley is listed as a 'former' mayor.
You still have that selection process involving the Police Board. That's established by city ordinance. It's not like the Fire Dept where Daley can appoint a Commissioner at will. With the Police Dept, Daley has to at least appear to comply with the ordinance.
