Meeks? Seriously?

  • The man who could be the next mayor of Chicago, state Sen. James T. Meeks, met me for breakfast Tuesday morning.

I picked the time. He picked the place, at the 312 Restaurant across from City Hall.

The political types noticed when the Chicago Democrat walked in. But they had the good manners not to grab their cell phones until after we'd ordered coffee and juice.

"You think they're noticing?" asked Meeks.
We'll tell you what we remember. Hell, we'll even link it:
Those posts were when we were a little blog. An insignificant blog. Four months old and 100 visitors a day. How things have changed. But not Meeks. Still the same old Meeks. Anyone else remember how he tried to pry almost a billion dollars out of Blago so Meeks would stay out of the governor's race?

This so-called "reverend" plays as dirty as any other Illinois politician.

He is a political psychopath who would wreak havoc on this city. John I am very dissapointed in you. Take a photograph of the city of Detroit cut the players out and replace them with a meeks and company. I don't often comment, although I have thoughts, on politics but this would be a disaster. -not a cop.

Meeks? A vicious and dirty little man...

Chicago will become two cities if he becomes mayor. The very wealthy and the non-contributors.

The middle class taxpayers will either be indentured servants (as if it ain't so now) or will end up being hunted down on the streets by the legion of tax absorbers. It'll be like a bad credit card commercial... "What's in your wallet?"

Hmm, buying another case of 7.62 NATO might be a fun distraction...

Meeks isn't going to be Mayor.

Read this for some choice quotes from his past.

http://thecapitolfaxblog.com/2010/09/14/daley-retirementpalooza-continues-unabated/

It's clearly not only cops who Meeks has an issue with. His social views are somewhere to the right of Rush Limaugh.

Meeks is a social conservative. That means he wants to tell me who I can have sex with.

Meeks is a liberal tax and spender.
That means he wants to take my money.

So I won't be getting laid and I'll have less money.

Yeah, this guy really has a chance.

Sometimes Kass hits a home run.

Sometimes he strikes out.

This was a three strikes and your out column.

Please everyone do whatever it takes to stop this shitbag from being our mayor. I really dont want to move out of chicago and give up my dream of CPD but i will have no choice if he wins. I cannot and will not work for this POS as a boss. i just wont. I have a hard enough time serving obama being in the military. and i wont even touch on j-fled

Look at this comment i found on channel 5's website regarding j-fled and his "soap opera" comment

"MariannPepitone I agree with Weis not to resign. Weis is the best superintendent that was hired by Daley outside of former superintendent Cline who resigned. The FOP should not havfe the right to say who should be superintendent of police. That is not his job. We had a good FOP years back and that was John Dineen. There is a lot of jealousy because Weis is a former FBI man and is not from Chicago. We should not choose anyone Chicago to be superintendent of police. That is the biggest mistake we could make."

There was a very interesting series in the Trib many years ago.

"An American Millstone" was serialized. It discussed the impact on the city/state/fed systems when one family migrated to Chicago during WWII for jobs, and a chance to beat Jim Crow in the south.

I believe the cost to the taxpayer for this move was estimated at $10 million for care and nurturing their offspring in the projects. How many multiples of that number are rearing their ugly heads now?

All these little democrats have a vote, just like you and me.

Really glad I'm retired. Sorry the burden has passed on to the young, decent people of Chicago.

GOOD! Meeks and Sandy Jackson (or Jesse Jr.) can split up some of the votes while Gutierrez and DaValle can shred some other voting blocks.
Hopefully, that will allow a legitimate problem solver to become Mayor instead of some hack who wins a popularity contest.

So far, no one is jumping out at me, but I'm looking forward to see whose hats are in the ring come election day!

Here is who I am taking a very good look at, Christopher Cooper.

I spent an hour on the phone with his campaign manager last night. I expect us all to take a look at one of our own who is running for Mayor. I for one want to see a big change in this city. Corruption is to good a word.

Take a good look at this man.. I am! http://www.christophercooperformayor2011.org/

Yeah, right. Someone we've never heard of and we should annoint him Mayor?

I read his link and it SOUNDS great... just like campaign rhetoric is supposed to sound, but tell me where the $$$ coming from to do this stuff and what political experience this guy has to just step in and become the Mayor of Chicago.

I believe we tried that with our current police superintendent, (no police experience), and look how that turned out!

Sorry, but just because he's a cop does not mean he blindly gets my vote.

If Meeks runs, they need to show the following video over and over to show what a racist he really is.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yM2M11BsA3g

I fear for race relations in this country. Rev Wright, Farrakhan, State Sen Rev Meeks D-Il, Fr Phleger, Pastor Manning (of the "Obama has a white momma" fame). These are all preachers who espouse racial division and hate. They are also heads of mega-churches whose flock are educated and middle class. Add these to the poor and uneducated who believe these things and it adds up to a dramatic problem.

During a roundtable on race realtions after the Rev Wright scandal broke, Fox News Chicago anchors Robin Robinson and Tamron Hall (now with MSNBC) both related that they had attended Wrights church in the past. How many other members of the media are involved with churches like these?

===I Did take a good look at Christopher Cooper....and found him to be a dirt bag lawyer who sues public schools(essentially tax payers) for high school dirtbags. That is what I found during my look. Just because someone had a badge and a gun at some point in their life does not make them qualified to be mayor. I think that there is one local hack going around to popular blogs planting nonsense comments about this loser. Please stop....people here don't buy your b.s.

Was this Chris Cooper a professor at Saint Xavier teaching Criminal Justice? If so, the university let him go because he would never show up and then he sued the university while throwing out the race card. Good canidate if its the same guy- yeah right.

I don't think Kass is supporting Meeks, he is just writing a column. But he is right, Meeks could win the election. See 1983 election results if you don't believe that.

How many thought in 1982 that Harold Washington could be elected mayor? Uh huh, and what happened? Two Irishmen fought and they both lost.

And in waltzed Harold.

Could happen again, make no mistake, don't scoff.

We need a good strong candidate, not necessarily the perfect candidate either, just a good candidate with a good chance. The more non-black candidates there are, the better the chances there are of Mayor Meeks.

Who would you want Dart or Meeks?

What if it comes down to Dart, Rahm Emmanuel, Fioretti, Pappas, Burke, Waugespack, Guitterez and Meeks?

And Gutierrez throws his support to Meeks at the last minute. Then what?

Mayor Meeks, that's what.

Kass sees it, that is why he is interviewing Meeks. Kass has at least a little political savvy. Give him some credit and do not make the mistake of laughing at a Meeks candidacy as "no fucking way."

Yes, there is a way and it has been done before.

I don't see how Meeks will get elected once the truth surfaces about some of his largest contributors. In particular, a well known, and very active gang leader, who has donated generously to Meeks in the past and has no problem calling the Reverend directly when the need arises. It was never an issue because Meeks hasn't dragged in the rest of the citizens in Chicago until now. BetterGov, ask around.

I heard on newsradio 780 that Meeks, I wont call him a reverend, was volunteering to "mediate" the dispute between the FOP President and Jody Weiss for the better of the City of Chicago.

===================================

It's not the same anymore. If you remember back in 1983 there use to be 2 parties and they had primaries. Harold ran against Byrne & Daley in the Democratic primary and won. Then he ran against Epton who was a Republican and won.

Now if that same race was to run now Washington & Byrne would have been the top 2 vote getters. And seeing as tho Harold would not have had more then 50% of the vote, the April election would of had Washington & Byrne going head to head which would of put Byrne back in office.

The problem with Meeks is I can't see him getting ALL the black vote or getting much of the hispanic vote if he was to be in a run-off with a white guy or much white support if it was him in a run-off with a hispanic.
