Please scan a copy of today's AMFN message from Downtown Ernie Brown and put it on your site for everyone to see. You must have seen it. There was even a "revised" order that came out after someone read it and said "Hey Ernie, that's not proper English". It read, "Chief Zavala is be retiring....". Holy shit. I almost fell off the chair when I saw that. "Is be retiring"... You're probably too late though. I'm sure the original has been pulled off the site by now, but someone has to have it out there. Come on we need a good laugh.
Usually, dumb people try to associate themselves with at least one smart person to make them look good. Downtown Ernie Brown seems to go completely the other way though and by doing so, reinforces the image of the Chicago Police Department as being run by unprofessional hacks.
On the other hand, it certainly undercuts J-Fled's image as a person who can choose leaders like he claimed on that blog of his.

Hah! A friend forwarded the original to me this morning and I immediately replied, "Is be retiring. What idiot would let this get out of the office?"
His response? "The idiot who wrote it, of course."
I'm glad they sent out a revision, though. At least, Zavala will be able to save a copy that reads the way it SHOULD, even if it is a second edition.

Reading something like that would tickle my funny bone to no end and I’d probably utter a truly insensitive comment too. However the reality of the situation is that Ernie Brown is not only illiterate but he doesn’t have the mental capacity to realize it. Just think what kind of a life he leads, he probably has never enjoyed reading a book, he can’t understand maps or street signs, he probably needs friends to translate everyday simple language for him. He has the functional ability of a mentally retarded person and is probably treated as such by strangers. And all the while he doesn’t know why people treat him that way.
That’s a pretty sad world to live isn’t it.

A mere typo, everyone knows it should read: "Chief Zavala be retiring....".

The newly appointed acting head of the organized crime division for Chicago Police has been dropped from consideration for a top police job in Arizona because of inconsistencies on his resume.
Lt. Ernest Brown, who had applied for the job of police chief in Buckeye, Ariz., insists the resume flap was a simple error on his part.
Brown said he submitted an old resume that listed him as assistant deputy superintendent, a title he lost last spring when Supt. Jody Weis made several command-level changes.
"I was working off a [computer] disc with several resumes,'' Brown said. "I applied electronically."
Brown, a 26-year veteran, was demoted to lieutenant of Area 1's robbery and burglary division under the changes Weis made.
He said when Buckeye officials came to Chicago to interview him, he did not hide his new position. He told them he was a commanding officer in the detective division and brought them to Area 1.
"I have an exemplary career,'' Brown said. "Everything on my resume is 1,000-percent legit.''
Officials from the city of Buckeye did not return calls late Friday.
Chicago Police officials defended Brown's new position, saying he had a proven track record of working with the community and as an innovative crime-fighter.
Steve Peterson, deputy superintendent of investigative services, said Brown reduced gas station holdups as commander of the Grand Crossing district by helping to get better lighting, video surveillance and wrought iron fencing for owners.
"He is a competent, dedicated member of the department . . . with a keen awareness of gang, gun and drug issues affecting the city,'' Peterson said.
Peterson refused to discuss Brown's job application in Arizona or whether officials knew about it.

Sorry Defective, "dearth" is the correct word. It means lack of, not enough. The article refers to the lack of adequate programs for the number of female students in CPS. So even Breaking News is smarter than Downtown Ernie Brown.

My guess is that the sentence started out as "Chief Zavala will be retiring" and was revised and intended to read "Chief Zavala is retiring." But when the edit was made, the "will" was deleted but the "be" was not. i've seen it happen fairly often in documents written by people with a very good grasp of the English language.

If you KNOW people don't like you and will use any little thing to tear you apart, perhaps you would get someone else to PROOFREAD something before you send it out.
Now, either it wasn't proofread, or the proofreader doesn't have command of the language. Either is unacceptable !
