Rahm's Biggest Fear?

  • Former Mayor Harold Washington’s controversial pastor on Monday endorsed Gery Chico for mayor of Chicago, calling Chico the candidate with the best chance to re-create the multi-racial coalition that twice elected Washington.

The endorsement from the Rev. B. Herbert Martin was a boon to Chico and a blow to the three African-American challengers: U.S. Rep. Danny Davis (D-Ill.), former U.S. Senator Carol Moseley Braun (D-Ill.) and the Rev. James Meeks.

“Harold worked hard to build a coalition between the African-American and Latino communities. Gery Chico has the skill and experience to put that coalition back together. Just watching his easy, gentle way of reaching out — he really is a coalition guy,” said Martin, 68, senior pastor at Progressive Community Church, 56 E. 48th Street.

Something like this could end up in a Chico-Emanuel run off if certain ministers decide the "consensus" candidate is Chico and not someone else. Martin has his own baggage, but by throwing his still considerable weight behind the Hispanic coalitions while the black vote is fractured among numerous camps, might be enough to make Chico a very serious threat to Rahm's plans.

If you think Chico is the answer to all your problems, you're delusional. Check Mondays Sun-Times & see all the businesses that do work for the City his wifes law firm represents.
Chico will be nothing more than Runt Daley the mouthy Hispanic version.

He lives in Orland Park doesn't he? He should nominate public officials for the suburbs not the city.

claims home owner exemption
fails to purchase a city vehicle license in june 2009 and june 2010
sounds like he's better than the other 17 mayoral candidates and 2,000,000 citizens that purchase the $75.00 vehicle license

Gery Chico's partner Marcus Nunes is a registered lobbyist in Cook County for their law firm. Check out the site and you will find that these two have more clients than all the other regisrants.
Back around 1996 Nunes was the Deputy Commissioner of Buildings under Cheryl Thomas. These two Daley appointed wunderkinds morphed the Department into the monstrousity that it is today and then left: Nunes to hide out at the Board of Education and Thomas to the Railroad Pension Board. Neither could read a blue print or build a dog house. We all know what happened to Chico's former law firm under his watch. So, if you want arrogance, mismanagement, and failure, vote for Chico.

Rahm's biggest fear was not making money on a house he wasn't using. The cheap bastard couldn't keep the home with his family's stuff and a licensed car in the garage for the times they return home for holidays with friends and family?
He is rich, a multimillionaire from his days at Goldman Sachs between the clinton, illinois legislature and obama years.
If he gets through the residency challenge then the CPD should be covered the same way!!!!!!!!! Same rules for all.

Google WTTW,Carol Marin and Rahm Emanuel, then be afraid. Be very afraid. He is coming after OUR pensions, not just the new guys. He paints us as a Bernie Madoff like thief, stealing money from the taxpayers.

He is a cold calculating shark, not the bumbling fool we are used to. Check out the look on his face when Carol Marin interrupts him. He looks like he wants to cut her throat. This is one mean fish.

This monarchy of Chicago politics need to end doesn't it?

Generation upon generation of career politicians like Kings and Queens with power all kept in the family and handed down.

You should make the residency for city employees an issue in this campaign. I will be willing to bet the residency issue will end up in the courts and the judge will either give a definition of what he thinks residency is or rule it unconstitutional.

here's the deal...Chico and Rahm are the front runners......Chico is hip deep in deals, contract clout.. favourits....Rahm is as nasty and vicious as they come.....wealthy (personally, and via Hollywood brother agent)....if Barry Hussiem endorses him, he's a lock...either way....Chicago is in big trouble

Gary Chico is Daley's sham canidate. Rahm and Obama made Daley step down to keep Patrick out of jail and kill any federal investigations against Daley. Rahm will be the endorse canidate and the next mayor. The election is a done deal.

SCC, if you can, you should post that interview with Rahm and Carol Marin from WTTW. The first few minutes he talks about our pension. Very interesting. She asks him if we really need 50 aldermen and he doesn't think having 50 is an issue. Listen up everyone, I've met the man a few times while working. He is not a friend of the police. The only reason he was at the benefit last week was to get face time on tv.

You have to love it. Lets get Latino's and Black's together and unite against the White's. What if the White's and the Latino's united against a Black candidate, I am sure this so called "Rev" would be screaming at the top of his lungs "RACISM". All the candidates suck.

"If he gets through the residency challenge then the CPD should be covered the same way!!!!!!!!! Same rules for all."

It's already that way. See the police board case Stiscak v city. Now a Lt. in 021, owns a condo in the city, doesn't rent it out, rarely goes there, lives in crystal lake with the rest of his family. Police board says that's enough, puts him back to work with backpay and promotion. This is the blueprint on how to do it.

The only good thing about Chico is he realizes that the Department is way short-staffed. He is ex-CPS and Park District, and I think he would have CPD's back -- more so than Rahm at least, that's for sure. I have seen a few interviews with Chico and he always brings up the shortage and looks like he wants to add 1,000+ bodies ASAP. He's got the budget experience to do it as well, and he's done it before (when he was Chief of Staff).
