Two Chicago police officers shot a man who pointed a gun at them Saturday afternoon on the South Side.
The suspect's gun was later determined to be fake and narcotics were found in his possession, police said.
About 2 p.m., the Grand Crossing District tactical unit officers were on patrol at East 71st Street and South Saint Lawrence Avenue -- an area known for drug activity police say -- when they approached the suspect, a 20-year-old man, leaving a liquor store. The man then saw the officers and ran north from the store, police said.
The officers went after the man who, soon thereafter, hopped a fence of his home in the 7000 block of South Saint Lawrence, where he turned around and pointed his gun at them, police said. The officers then opened fire, wounding the suspect in his legs.

This is becoming common to the point where its not surprising anymore. That is very disturbing . Thank God the officers are ok. Great Job Officers!!!!

Saw this comment on a previous post. For those of you who don't know Lt. Waldera it's no surprise. He never leaves the basement in area 3 so you wont see him on the street that's for sure. By far one of the most arrogant and incompetent bosses on this job. Was never the police and will never be the poice. He thinks he is to smart for this job, but guess what? He never leaves! SCC, just a heads-up that its been a deadly weekend for the police in America. NYC lost one, suburban NY lost one, and VA lost at least one last I heard. The one in VA sounds at first impression like a sniper attack from the mountains with multiple wounded POs.

Next, the TOP COP Award actually is now down to ten 'semi-finalists.'
On May 12th 2011,during Police Week in Washington D.C., the name of the Top Cop will be chosen and named at a ceremony there. Good Luck to all our hometown and nations heroes.
This is yet another reason to attend the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in DC this year. (May 13-15) The main reason, among others is to honor our own. Last year we lost (5) five recognized members in the line of duty.
It's not too late to make plans. While hotel rooms remain at a premium, with a little computer homework research, a reasonable hotel rate can be found, especially if you share the costs with a partner or fellow coppers.
I got a copy of this years info by calling Unit 111 and requesting a 2011 handout.
Since then I was told that the CPD sgts assn. website has a copy on their website that you can view/print. There's also a video there on the CPD in Washington DC.
Good luck to our CPD Top Cop nominees and our prayers go out to all of our fallen, especially Sgt. Haymaker and P.O.'s Wortham, Soderberg, Bailey and Flisk.
God bless them one and all and God bless the CPD.

are you talking about crazy mary the homeless woman or something else? I didnt even know crazy mary was around anymore. She has been downtown forever. Believe it or not crazy mary was a knockout prostitute who frequented all the spots in 018 and 001 all the time. Now, crazy mary is just that, crazy mary. Time has not really done her well and neither have the drugs. I had no ideal crazy mary was still around down there. Dont give her a hard time, shes actually was a very nice and caring person before the mental problems set in. Its a shame to see what has happened to her.
