Rapper Common has sparked controversy since it was announced he was set to perform his poetry and rap at the White House on Wednesday. His pro cop-killing lyrics, as well as his song supporting a cop-killer, were chief among the critics’ arguments against his appearance. But despite drawing ire, Common ended up performing. And while there was no mention of cops, that performance wasn’t without at least one curious line.

Nice gesture for a good guy! I think you have the end of watch date wrong, cause I remember being on the job when he was killed and attending his funeral. I got on in 99. I think that is his hire date.
RIP Mike you will always be missed!

Thank you for posting this. We appreciate it and look forward to welcoming many of Chicago's Finest to the dedication and buffet luncheon following.
Unfortunately, Mike's dad did not live long enough to see the memorial completed, but was very pleased to know it was underway.
Stay safe,

Time makes us forget.
We never should.
Just came from the ceremony and it was very nice. A little cold but the emcee warmed a lot of mens hearts, among other things too. BUT, as usual, where were the troops? Mostly od guys. Mike was a really great warrior and we could, no should, have had more of a turnout of blue costumes.
Agreed there should have been a better turnout, but a lot of the turnout has already left for D.C.
Sometimes timing has a lot to do with results.
Emanuel was at 65th and woodlawn pulling weeds with the residents at a city garden and declared this city service day. I guess that was more important than attending a dedication for Michael Ceriale who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving this city.
R.I.P

He wasn't invited.
Happy to see we pulled more folks to the dedication than he did to his free concert.
The positive media coverage on WLS and WGN was nice.

Glad you liked the MC choice.
When Amy Jacobson heard about the dedication she volunteered to MC as she remembered covering Mike's shooting and death.
You should have come to Brisku's where she hoisted a few with the guys who showed. She gave great tixs to Cubs games to a firefighter and the Eagle Scout who raised the $$ for the memorial.
Class Act all the way.
