Once again:
- How about addressing what happened out here in 003 yesterday? No, it wasn't on the news because we can't have the Sheeple reminded of just how insecure some of our facilities are and how determined some of the savages are that we deal with daily.
Brief synopsis: dude walks into the desk at 0900 hours, sucker punches an officer and then tries to disarm him. Other officers subdue the asshole, but not before two are injured (loose teeth, busted lip, possible broken thumb, etc.). Our illustrious CCSOA tried to decline the upgrade based on asshole being on "psych meds". We quickly pointed out that dude did the same thing at 004s desk in October 2008 and promise to override if necessary. (Reference CB #18568012 for yesterday's incident, CB # 17385628 for the '08 incident). Dude is charged accordingly...although he should have been put down like the dog that he is.
Nice to see that J-Fled's station security survey is still bearing zero fruit and hasn't made a single officer safer by and measure.
And an interesting tidbit - the psycho who lit the house on fire in 010 the other night, killing a woman, her 4-year-old daughter and himself, was the same headcase who wandered into the 011th District a year or so ago with a rifle before being disarmed by the desk crew. And still no additional security safeguards in place.

Why is the desk still below eye level with the citizens, it puts officers at a disadvantage immediately. Why don't they elevate it just like they did the 005th District desk a few years ago? This is not the first incident, nor will it be the last.
What about the fact the the ASA wanted to interview the offender one on one and uncuffed? Good thing that M. Russow was allowed to sit in and stop the secondary attack just as it started. Should have just left the guy alone with the ASA to do whatever he wanted.

Also a couple of months ago a homeless man took all the pipes from the bathroom that they use.

At our station we have gang graffiti scratched on our revolving front door post. Officers cars in our lots have been vandalized and the only thing we can do is post an officer in the lots at all hours.

See, if you were to spend $250/mo on parking, that is $3,000 per year.
Normally if you earn $3,000 and let's say for the sake of conversation you were in a 33% tax bracket the Federal income tax people would take $1,000 of that money in taxes to run the country.
But if you spend that money pre-taxed we'll let you do it and take a tax deduction for it. Everyone loves that tax deduction part right?
But who makes out like a bandit? The Abu Dhabi Parking Meter LLC because the city of Chicago and the Federal government is encouraging you to do business with them via tax breaks.

We all lose $1,000 dollars in federal funds that could be used to pay down the debt, fund projects, put towards health care except now it's not even in the country anymore. For the month of Jan 2012 we recorded 40 if I'm not mistaken and that was abt a 50% increase from 2011.
At the current homicide rate of two per day we are well on our way to another 50% increase in homicides for Jan. 2013 Magic Sixty!

McFailure did his part by making sure "we're getting the most out of what we have" and cut desk crews to a unworkable and dangerous two officers. Our stations "security" is like Swiss cheese and yet McFailure has it set up so oftentimes there's a single officer working the desk.
Not that either Rahm or McCarthy give a fuck but if they don't wake up and address the security and understaffing issues at district desks they'll have blood on their hands!

Hope every officer involved has a speedy recovery...the desk in 003 is a hazard. It is not raised like almost every other district and that makes it much easier for this exact same thing to happen...they fixed it at 111th but it remains the same in 003...with a plastic glove hanging from a "rafter" (been told it has been there at least ten years)...shows they don't care about us PO's both health wise and safety wise!!!!

I remember watching a news story years ago about station security at a particular station house in San Francisco. At one point in the segment the reporter walked through the locker room. I was surprised to see that every single locker had a large and sturdy padlock in place. I thought "Wow, if cops can't even trust other cops to keep out of their lockers, then what's the point?" I guess I was a pretty naive kid.
Since this animal did this in 2008 then his fucking CB photo should have been posted in districts citywide so desk officers would be aware of this offender.

When I was a recruit back in 1969 ( yes a long time ago), a crazed mental came into 021 and shot the desk sgt. six times. The sgt. was the only officer armed and while on the floor he pulled his snub from his pants pocket and killed the offender. Nothing changed in the physical makeup of the stations. I have witnessed mentals come into the station ( 007) and attack a police officer standing at the desk, I have seen this happen many times over the years and nothing has ever changed in the safety of the desk. I have asked for the retrofitting of the stations to limit access, make the deks bullet resistant and make the public areas much smaller. Yes, you are right, it will take a tragedy to get this done. For the life of me I cannot see why the FOP and supervisor unions dont take up this cause and bring it to the forefront. They are strangely silent on the issue. This is not something new.

In 025 a few months ago a homeless guy stole a bunch of pipes from both the men's washroom and women's washroom.
Also in 025 on 2nd watch the desk crew is usually too scared to tell citizens who want to walk around that they can't do that. Or if the citizen is being too loud to quite down. Nope. It's because the know it all Lt. allows such behavior. If an officer cuffs and arrests an asshole for anything in 025 then they get a lecture about how it is a public facility. What a fucking joke we have become.
Maybe the carpeting and cushy seats throws you off guard, but you are dealing with the public like on the street. Think of it as a covered bus shelter.

Wasn't there so I don't know the what happened but I have witnessed several officers working the desk in complete lala land, either watching movies, ducking around on their phones, or some other shit they shouldn't be doing. Yet me being an off duty P.O. has to deal with an attitude for wanting a report. Wake up and smell the coffee we're not in Kansas anymore so stop blaming everyone else and man up and hold your portion of the line.

half of those front office people dont carry guns, one time keeper doesnt carry a gun and was checked by the watch commander and was told Commander says they dont have to carry guns because they are inside people. JJ is a good guy and is the police. I don't consider working the desk a "secretary" type job.
Those "secretary" jobs belong to CAPS, Tact secretaries, the numerous bodies hidden in Commanders office etc.
Working the desk isn't like those above mentioned "jobs". We can't wear whatever we feel like, come in whenever we want, split shifts with each other, spend half our shift on face time etc. I worked a beat car for almost 20 years before working the desk and there's plenty of times I work harder on the desk than I did in a beat car.
There are 450 in the academy right now, not over two years. Just had dinner with an academy instructor and the academy is full, 450 minus the class that just got out
Where do you think those recruits will be heading? Will the be distributed fairly evenly across the city? Hell no the Rev Runs etc. will demand even more police from Rahmbo n McFailure and the recruits will be sent to just a handful of god forsaken, police saturated ghetto districts.
Why is it that when you enter a suburban police station you are greeted with a police officer or civilian behind 3 inches of bullet resistant glass? These are police stations serving areas with much less violent crime than in Chicago. City had its chance when designing all these new stations but never once considered officer safety. Just like you have to check your gun just to enter processing area. Areas where criminals are immediately brought without a full in depth search. We're all human and make mistakes and possibly could miss a small caliber handgun or knife (it's happened and will happen again) and there you are unarmed at their mercy.
New 12/13 merge building...i.e-The new 12th district is within spitting distance of Abla project duplexes on north side of building, two seven story jects' on west side of lot, and a school full of shitbirds from the area right behind lot. All the money they spent and doled out to their friends for this building and they have an open air lot that any asshole can walk through to damage squads, personal cars, and equipment!! RU fucking kidding?! The day of the consolidation/move to this bldg. a scuffle with 50 Abla "students" in this wide-open backlot led to two batt. to p/o arrests, and is a harbinger of things to come. Don't like the fact that "Pookie" your play cousin was arrested?? Just go into unsecured lot and break all the windows out on his personal car. Maybe flip a squad over and light it on fire as well. Great planning. politicians & aldercreatures don't give a shit..its not their caddy that gets destroyed, and their lots at city hall are secure. They also have their own security teams to schlep them around.

I certainly hope this person is not a teacher, but I would not be surprised if that was the case. Influencing our children with the latest statistics.
Well I for one could not. I retired a couple of years early because I was sick and tired of all the lies and deceit and bullshit one has to put up with. And that is from the police administration and command staff and some co-workers.
It has been a few months now, the pension checks are flowing for now and the stress is going way down. In fact, the only stressful shit still in my life is when I read this damn blog and recall what bullshit the job has become. Still, it feels so damn good not to go to work there.

I dont think anyone was serious about hiring security guards. They were being sarcastic and saying what you said and that the desk are supposed to be police officewrs, act like it and you wont need protection
All I hear is that is some districts there are only two po's on the desk. How many po's are in a 10-99 or a 10-4 car? They only have 2 pos at the most to handle the situation before help arrives. That desk situation got out of control when the fool decame aggressive and at least one or more of the desk police took a walk
I remember watching a news story years ago about station security at a particular station house in San Francisco. At one point in the segment the reporter walked through the locker room. I was surprised to see that every single locker had a large and sturdy padlock in place. I thought "Wow, if cops can't even trust other cops to keep out of their lockers, then what's the point?" I guess I was a pretty naive kid.

I seem to remember a similar story. Turns out the cops trusted each other fine. The station was connected to the branch court and lawyers would occasionally wander into the locker rooms. The coppers did the right thing and secured their belongings to prevent the bottom feeding pond scum attorneys from stealing their stuff.
Way back in the 70's I joined the Army and trained as Military Police. Shipped off to Germany, one of the things that I distinctly remember was a seasoned old Sergeant First Class who was the watch commander for our shift. He told us new guys that if one of us came back hurt by a bad guy, his partner had better also come back hurt, cause if he didn't, the Sgt was gonna kick his ass to square things up. There is no room for coppers on the job who run away from trouble and leave their brothers to fend for themselves. It sounds like a few ran away in this case. Don't let this shit be forgotten. Those cowards need to be outed and disciplined. Anyone who runs from danger leaving their comrades in harms way doesn't belong on the job.

No one answered my queries as of yet. I do plan to bring the subject again as soon as I get a chance
