- Chicago's new Public Enemy No. 1 is a cartel kingpin in Mexico.
It's the first time the Chicago Crime Commission has used the label since Prohibition.
The commission and the Chicago office of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will formally give Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman that distinction Thursday.
The Public Enemy No. 1 label was created for mobster Al Capone. But the DEA says Sinaloa cartel leader Guzman is more menacing than the Chicago gangster was.
The DEA's top Chicago official, Jack Riley, says Guzman resides in a Mexican hideaway. But he says Guzman's cartel is now the main narcotics supplier to Chicago and so is effectively a local crime boss.
Word is that someone found his wife's wedding dress in a crawl space in Pilsen, thereby establishing residency within the corporate boundaries of Chicago.
Seriously, what's the point of this? There aren't a dozen easy-target middlemen who transport the dope? A few trucking companies combined with railroads bringing in the stuff by the ton? Chicago isn't going to form a task force to work south of the border.

Justifying their existence, SCC, that's all it is. A press conference a couple times a year and maybe some little awards dinner and they've justified their nice, fat salaries.

OT; Is anyone who retired this past December with the 55-60 health insurance provision having a hard time getting the insurance switched over to retired status? My wife is fighting a terrible disease and Pharmacies will not honor my old insurance card. Numerous phone calls have resulted in promises to help but nothing has been done. Any help or advice would be gratefully appreciated!

Little more crappy media attention and who knows maybe the border will get tighter. Just a few clarifications:
1) J-Fled was asked to leave CCC (um, fired). He came in, demonstrated he didn't have a clue about urban law enforcement, got 'em a lawsuit, and left.
2) CCC has always been pro police.
3) Current CCC leadership is retired CPD from back in the day. If only experience counted for appointment to Supt....
