Memorial for Off-Duty Death
- Family and friends of a Chicago police officer who was struck and killed while riding his bike create a memorial in his honor.
They gathered for a slow bike ride near the scene of the crash.
Thirty-year-old Brian McDevitt was a few minutes into his ride June 11 when he was hit while crossing into a forest preserve near 135th and Ridgeland in Palos Heights.
McDevitt's loved ones left a ghost bike at that location as a memorial and as a reminder to others to bike and drive safely.
RIP Officer.

Prayers to all his family members. He will be missed.
RIP our brother. My condolences to the family.
RIP Brian.
Still, not one paper has told what happened other than he got killed.
No word on what happened to the driver who killed him. I heard a rumor that the driver was not cited. How does a driver, who is rumored to have driven around a vehicle that was stopped for a cyclist, get a pass on killing another human being?
Several of the people who attended were members of the local bike community offering support to the family and friends of a fellow cyclist.
RIP Officer. My sympathy to his family and friends.
Did the driver stop? Charges?
I can't confirm this but a friend told me that an off duty CPD officer was brought into Loyola hospital in critical condition yesterday after an intersection collision on his motorcycle at Harlem and Madison. Didn't sound good.
my prayers are with him n the family
Keeses for all his family and friends.

Perhaps the FACTS, not the rumor you cite, did not require the auto driver be arrested.
This isn't a case of what you'd LIKE to believe, but a case of what is, or isn't, the facts surrounding this incident.
By all accounts, the officer was a nice guy and sympathy is due the family. You might want to remember the family has repeatedly issued statements admonishing both auto and bicycle drivers to be more cautious. It would seem they already know the facts of the case and have accepted them.
So sad...
A young life taken way too early~
RIP Brian
Not taking away from this post. But the odpo who was involved in that accident at Harlem and Madison is not in good condition. The dr had to amputate one of his legs. He has brain bleeding compound fracture to his other leg and broken ribs. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
