The cop was wounded in the side. The gunman was found half-a-mile down the road dead with a single gunshot wound to the chest...and his three kids in the car. All over a speeding ticket.

I'm SO freaking PRO COP nowadays I it actually took me awhile to realize that a father was killed in front of his kids. That's a no brainer. I hope none of the younger coppers out there KNOW. Some1 else dies or gets seriously injured if a member of the public believes a piece of paper is somehow worth more then a Police Office's Life.

It's more likely that he had warrants, no legal custody over or permission to have the kids, or voices in his head.

On any traffic stop I had my hand on my gun as I got out of the car, snap unfastened, first indication the guy did not comply with my first verbal direction, the gun comes out.
I learned, I am not going to stand there repeating the same order over and over, "Sir, I told you 9 times already, get back in your car."
Bullshit.
Tell them ONCE, then the gun comes out, then you can protect yourself and they are put on notice this is not a game of the police begging them to comply.
Gun can be held down at your side or slightly to the rear but it is out and ready, it goes back in easily enough. Meanwhile you concentrate on their hands and where you will aim. By time that asshole makes his fast approach to the squad car my gun would be pointing at his midsection, finger ready to go to work.

The public hates it when "You Cops" fight back. It makes them nervous and uneasy when Policemen understand and speak the same language of forcefully lethal physical violence as these armed offenders do.

Cop shot at offender multiple times, however only one shot landed center mass. This was a lethal kill shot which can kill most people except offenders. They are like roaches. This proves that shot placement is not the only guarantee of killing POS it does not grantee permanent disablement or incapacitating this guy drove off. This is proof to any liberal who thinks you should only fire one shot not to kill. read this article good one on why you should empty that magazine.
How stupid was this guy? Over a damn speeding ticket? It's one thing to be pissed about it and even hard feelings, but to shoot the officer?

Although he was just an unarmed run of the mill wacko, the officers didn't know that when they took him down on a busy street. I see these coppers everyday grabbing coffee in the morning talking about their families and the world and it's reassuring to know such kind,great people have our back.

Premeditated as of him pulling his car over...yeah. I don't think dude put on his old uniform and wave cap, armed himself, and told his kids to hop in just to go looking for a speed trap to engage an officer. There would have been much easier ways to do so without endangering his children or wasting a good clean uniform.

Thank you. 99% of people hate us because when they see us having coffee or running an errand they think we're lazy do-nothings...not realizing that in any given moment we would lay our lives down to protect citizens. After that cup of coffee we might be chasing a guy with a gun or taking a baby to the morgue. It's rare that people stop to think we are actually really good-hearted despite the awful, and I do mean awful, things we see, and have to do, on this job.

He doesn't look wounded when he gets back in the car. Any word on offender's background? Can't have been his first offense.
As many of you might have noticed, spray-n-pray does not work well.
Both of them fired quite a few rounds and hit noting (but I wonder if any of the passing cars got hit!)
If the officer had just slowed down a 1/5th of a second the accuracy would have been much better.
High capacity does not equate to more protection. High hit count does.
Oh, and notice the bad guy dropped his mag and then picked it up. I suspect he was hit in the chest just before that and in shock thumbed the mag release.
But even he continued for quite a while before expiring.

Hey, here is a secret I have been in one since September. Its called CPD Testing only one with real police instructors, only one who had the dates of the part I test. Only one who actually teaches anything.

Madison, WI is also known as the Peoples Republic of Madison. Liberal isn't the right word. Very Radical and has been since the 60's. In 1970 radicals parked a truck bomb in back of the Army Math and Research Center, Sterling Hall, which was part of U of W but where physics research for the US Government was taking place. A 1960's era Ford van filled with approx 2,000 pounds of ANFO went kaboom. 4 people were sought in the bombing, 3 were caught eventually and served relatively short terms in prison. One remains at large.
Mayor Paul Soglin was a radical of that era, eventually getting involved in politics and elected Mayor and is Mayor of Madison now.
He personally drove the family of 10 named in the article to a shelter. I can envision a lot of free bus tickets to Madison being distributed on the south and west side.
