Bye Bye Beavers
- Former Cook County Commissioner William Beavers must report to federal prison on Monday, a judge has ruled, rejecting Beavers plea to delay his six-month tax fraud sentence while his appeal is heard.
Beavers, 78, was convicted in March of cheating on his taxes for failing to declare how he’d used his political campaign fund to bankroll heavy gambling losses.
His lawyers wanted U.S. District Judge James Zagel to delay his reporting date while his appeal is heard, but Zagel — who handed Beavers the six-month sentence in September — on Tuesday ruled that the appeal does not raise “a substantial question of law” nor is it likely to result in success.
How come he isn't identified as "former aldercreature"? Or "former Officer"? You know the media does it for everyone else. And it's only 6 months - he'll be out in plenty of time to gamble at the new Chicago casino.

This guy used campaign money for gambling and got 6 months. JJJr spent $750k of his campaign money on lavish gifts, items and child molester memorabilia, and got about 2.5 yrs, and was the guy trying to buy Obummer's senate seat...a crime he hasn't been charged with. Blago didn't sell the senate seat to Jr., didn't take a dime at all, and didn't spend any campaign funds on lavish gifts, item, child molester memorabilia or gambling, and he got 14 yrs. I'm not sticking up for Blago, but I see a bit of a discrepancy in the sentences.

I'm not a Blago fan either but he got fucked royal at sentencing. No criminal record, no money changed hands, just talk. Yea that's a conspiracy but 14 years? Try to get a robber, burglar or shooter 14 years. Good luck. I used to take dope cases to federal court and guys with multiple kilos in hand got didn't get 14.

The discrepancy was obvious when they sentenced him. The machine hated him and determined to destroy him more than any other blackballed Illinois pol I have ever seen. The fact he got 14 years was so hypocritical it's ridiculous.

How about they all get 14 years? Maybe a proper sentence is what they need to keep corruption down. It is out of control, so much so that it is expected. That's messed up. Chicago is a cancer and it has spread to the rest of the Country.
Call me an old softy, but Beavers got a gift from God on this one. Blago's sentence... all things considered, was right were it should be for him and the rest of the crooked pricks elected to office in this state who then use us as their bitches. Ryan, as unrepentant a cocksucker as ever walked the face of this earth, deserved more than was handed to Blago. Blago only got hammered if you think that the rest of these self-serving pricks (Beavers, Ryan, and other, as yet unindicted politicians like Short Shanks (no prediction intended so don't hold your breath<:(>)) got a proper sentence. I don't think that they did.
Feed at the public trough and abuse the public trust and they should be strung up by the balls - PERIOD
