Still With the Smash and Grabs?

  • Burglars broke into a sports apparel store on State Street in the Loop early Thursday and stole nearly 50 Blackhawks jerseys.

The burglary happened at the Lids store at 125 S. State St. about 4 a.m., according to police.

A store employee said the burglars used a hammer to break a glass handicapped door, and took 49 Blackhawks jerseys that were on display. No other merchandise was taken.
The other entrance to the store is in the Palmer House - which we're pretty sure is manned 24/7/365 by someone.

But hey, crime is down!

At least this crime did not involve death, mayhem and gun violence.

Why do some people still believe that Chicago is in fact a safe place to own and operate a business?

Can anyone explain that?

From what I read, 911 response time is 12 minutes on average. Plenty of time to get in and out. The city needs more police!

Go visit the less magnificent mile of Michigan Ave (111th -114th). Roller grates as far as the eye can see. It's as if they know something about the mindset of a thief.

If this were to happen when "Uncle Paul" McLaughlin was the D.C. in the 001 it would not have happened, as a burglary. There was NEVER EVER a burglary in 001. It was a Criminal Damage to Property and a Theft, but never a Burglary even if an arrest was made. Watch if the same doesn't happen to the reports again here.

When this happened in the 1980's when Jane Byrne (RIP) was Mayor the 18th District created an Midnight Tact Team and this stopped. No need for ugly pull down gates to spoil the Mag Mile. We had enough well motivated police and Sergeants Jack Runyon and Moon McMullen on the job and hunting bad guys was fun.

Then we would see Chicago Police cars everywhere, unless we were told to stay away because the Midnight team was watching someone. There were also police cars in our own neighborhoods.

They won't be happy until the loop looks like the south side, buy your stuff thru bulletproof glass, because that's normal. You can't mention that because they're black that's how it's done. We're wrong and they're right. The new normal.

The hawks will screw it up, and the genius robbers will try to return 49 jerseys for store credit...
