Jobs in Dallas
- Police recruiters are trying to bring in hundreds of new police officers in Dallas.
Nearly 100 officers in the Dallas Police Department have quit or retired since October, according to multiple reports, worsening the department’s deficit of personnel.
Interim Police Chief David Pughes told City Council members Monday night that the department wanted to fill the next academy class with 60 officers but has only hired 30 for the February class, the Dallas Morning News reported. The department is down to 3,252 officers and wold like to have at least 3,500.
CBS 11 reported that most of the 99 who left since Oct. 1 were some of Dallas’ most experienced officers, according to the incoming president of the Dallas Police Association.
The recruitment/departure rate problems stem from the last fiscal year, which ended in September, in which 294 officers left and 142 were hired.
Sounds like the same problem running nationwide - no one wants to be the police any more. Maybe they take laterals.

I think many departments are having a hard time finding QUALITY candidates. Id like to see the numbers for how many apply and how many are actually hired
Dallas still has winter storms and freezing cold. Just not four months of it.
A person is better off knocking out college than knocking out asshole on the job and losing their job after getting stuck in it... If you don't know what I am talking about, it's cause you have not been on the job long enough.
Their pension is busted out.
They had some sort of ridiculous provision in which you could make large lump sum withdrawals.
Guess what happened?
No thanks, Dallas plays the same racial political game that they do here. Same BS, different city.
Dallas has a special problem with their pension. Google "Dallas police DROP".
Dallas may be something of a special case. I don't understand all the particulars, but it has something to do with their pension system, which is almost completely broke. Apparently, as I understand it, if you retired now, you could take an enormous lump-sum payout, but the window of opportunity is closing fast, as the Dallas mayor is aware the pension system is about to collapse. Rumor has it that the Dallas chief retired for this very reason. Maybe someone with more knowledge of their pension situation can chime in. There was an actual pension system run, just like a bank run, with some incredible sum in the hundreds of millions of dollars being withdrawn in just 30 days.
Uh, the pay sucks in Dallas too.
All my exes live in Texas.
The problem in Dallas in a severely underfunded pension. People are bailing out before the fund dries up.
The Dallas PD pension is woefully underfunded, far worse than Chicago so anyone that can retire is leaving. Dallas also allows retirees to take their pension in a lump sum, which further compounds their underfunding. Unlike IL, pensions are not constitutionally protected in Texas, so anyone vested is taking their money while they can still get it.
One Chicago suburb had 260 take the written test, with only 109 passing.
Obama's legacy. I can't say what I'm thinking about that asswipe.
Stay safe Officers.

I work for an agency that is all part time. Last year the number of applicants fell from previous years. This year looks to be even worse.
I work a bit west of Chicago. We recently hired and are a large department by midwest standards. We had about 120 apply, and about 70 showed up. 30-40 passed the testing. Fewer passed the background. Fewer passed the interview. A hiring list with 10 opening was generated...with 7 people on it. 7 out of the 120 applicants. They hire all 7 because they have no choice. They exhaust the list and are now scrambling to host a new test. Ive been on the job over a decade and haven't even seen it this bad. Usually 300-500 applications were in per testing in the past. No one wants to do this crap job anymore and I can't blame them. Go get a real job.
I wonder why they cant find recruits. Maybe it has something to do with dallas being one of the few liberal shitholes in the state of Texas
Dallas pension fund fighting for its life..bankrupt Fort Worth is right behind them..

The pension fund is frozen for withdrawals...
A department that is concerned about the deficiencies in manpower. That does not compute here...
What is CPD attrition rate? bet it is much higher! From the top down the totally inept management, the 24/7 "dishonest media" the so called elected buffoons talking constantly nonsense about police! the national trend everywhere for policing is downward spiral started with barry obama and the fish stink all the way down! We need Trump badly to appoint someone federally to take over and support police,"law and order" needs to return but when?
My kid just opted out of going into CPD, choosing USMC under Trump instead. He chose wisely. Eff it if/when CPD denies him later because of military service. Other departments won't.
Then we have this rahms media pets exposing him lying what is going on with the "dishonest rahm media?"
Emanuel's police hiring plan at odds with his record: Ranks shrank by hundreds during his tenure

Dallas Police pension fund nearly bankrupt ,Dallas Police undermanned .. sounds familiar
Phoenix takes laterals...
With trump already bringing jobs back to our country it is going to be even harder for the police department to hire more cops considering how hard it is already to find people that want the job. I predict after a year or two of trumps presidency, people will ignore job hiring with police departments.
An example of backlash from the 21st Century Policing Task Force Diversity Matters mandate.
A problematic ''get it while you can'' pension system is also causing the rapid exodus.
Besides, they will fill those spots with refugees at a lower pay scale and no background check, no others need apply.
WHO would want to move laterally to another dept. that pays less than what you're earning now? A dept. whose pension fund is in an even deeper hole than the CPD pension fund already is? Do you see any positives here? Because I sure don't!
Phoenix takes laterals...
Yeah...they took one of ours a little while back. He and two rookies there in PPD (allegedly) forced a subject of a street stop to swallow his small stash of weed...and he beefed. Now, all three have resigned, and somehow I don't think that the guy from CPD who took a leave of absence to go down to be the real police in Phoenix is going to be welcomed back here with open arms by Rahm and Ed...ya think?
A fact nobody mentioned when those five guys were tragically murdered by that racist terrorist, "I forget it was a tragedy like a Tornado or car accident", was that the entire Dept. was bailing out due to low morale and pension issues. Also jagoff Bosses.
So the Chief does the right thing and blows up the cop killer but the underling problem remained, that is nobody wants to be the Dallas PD. So everyone who could grabbed their pension cash and moved to another Dept.
No doubt another large city ran by Democrats.
