- Chicago’s top-rated bed and breakfast is selling its historic mansion home and leaving Bronzeville because it’s too hard to persuade people to stay in the neighborhood.
Owner Mell Monroe is closing Welcome Inn Manor, 4563 S. Michigan Ave., Trip Advisor’s top-rated bed and breakfast in Chicago, and putting the historic mansion up for sale for $794,000.
“I’m not happy about the situation, but I have to do what I have to do,” Monroe said.

owned the property their lawyers would be all over
Chicago and he State. It's a whole lot easier to steal
property from a mom & pop operation.
Of course, after the sale goes through, a developer with
big bucks will improve the property (a mini Donald Trump,
if you will), demand better security, or provide their own,
and the value will soar well over $1M. It's a form of modern-
day robbery.
Rahm's lap dog Media reported the closing but made no mention of the reason. Those of us who live in "Shitcaga", whenever possible avoid Bronzeville and are able to read between the lines. While those who depend on reviews from outsiders like Trip Adviser become victims, and never return. The Media is also schilling for Rahm at the national level, because on the same day as one station announced the Bed & Breakfast closing, CBS national news stated that Chicago had "turned the corner" in reducing violence, based upon the reduction in homicides over the Labor Day weekend. The story mentioned an ATF informant, and an individual who sold over 100 weapons to Chicago gangs. And of course there was an interview with the Department's Chief of Organized Crime. So one illegal gun dealer is the answer to all of our violence? The Feds put more guns in the hands of the Cartels with Fast and Furious! I guess Culture, Values and the profits made from crime is not an issue here. Once again, the problem is the guns. The people who choose to care little of the value of human life, including their own, has nothing to do with the death toll. If you listen to Rahm's sycophants, living in Shitcaga is a safe and wonderful experience. Maybe Rahm will transfer his kids from University of Chicago Lab School, to say Hyde Park Academy, which is near their current school. Such an act would surely convince everyone that the Soutside is safe and CPS works well, ignoring that it requires $80 Million dollars in security, just to function. If the CBS news crew really believes that we have turned the corner on violence, because of the death toll for one holiday weekend; well I guess that is an explanation of what is meant by the term, Fake News! I love when the city guides tell unknowing tourists to check our bronzeville, garfield park, various south side side eateries without also informing them of the danger to them.
I can only laugh sarcastically at the absurdity of the Trip Advisor "top rating" and the lack of Mell not knowing the demographics of a city where a substantial business investment is being made. Likely a very nice building indeed in the middle of Indian country. And yes, it dangerous there. It was always dangerous there from about 1960's on. Good luck on recovery of as much of a bad investment as possible kiddo.

Near as dangerous, but the allure of N. Michigan Ave is the exclusive use of gold-plated bullets and, if hit, you get to take some bling with you. Plus, it is classier to be shot on the ritzy N. Michigan Ave rather than on the much less opulent, grittier S. Michigan Ave.
