CTA Robberies?

  • Armed robbers have targeted passengers this week as they get off trains across the city, police said.

In each incident, the suspect walked up to a person who was getting off a train, showed a weapon and demanded property, according to Chicago Police.

    [...]

The suspect was wearing a dark, hooded coat with a tan scarf, faded jeans and tan boots, police said.
And once again, the Slum Times with a completely accurate description of the offender.

You know what might help prevent this? Bigger signs. And more than one cop per twelve miles of track.

I'm waiting for a black grandma in her 80's to light up one of these J/O's w/a snubnose .38... Step over the body and leave. Low chance that Grandma's getting charged, and if she does by some miracle, then the Jury's not going to hold her responsible.

And that folks, will be the end of this bullshit life-endangering prohibition on CCW for mass transit. Fucking politicians ought to try taking the CTA sometime w/o the phalanx of bodyguards - bet we'd have concealed carry in 3.2 seconds or less after that

After terrorist attacks or crime sprees, rahm and the liars at 35th Street often talk about counter-terrorism or crime prevention efforts that are both visible and invisible. In many jurisdictions that actually take the threat seriously and haven't squandered all of our financial resources, this is true. In Chicago, it is smoke and mirrors and the general public doesn't have a fucking clue. Consider where we are:

-TRAINING: We don't train. We do not invest in basic, consistent, law enforcement in-service training in any meaningful or consistent way and we never have. It you believe otherwise, you simply don't understand what professional agencies actually do.
-Personnel: We have not had adequate manpower in years and the shell game of more officers 'back on the beat" is such a tragic lie told by rahm and his people that cannot stand up to the barest scrutiny, which the media never does.
-Proactive Policing: The officers we do have, if they have half a brain, have lost their will to conduct proactive police work. As someone who had long prided myself as one of the "working police" it hurts to write these words. However, the simple reality is that rahm has destroyed this police department to save his political ass with his politics of race and he will burn each of us and our families to protect himself.
-Specialized Units: The have eliminated any city-wide street enforcement units. The CTA is a free for all of criminals. The number of officers on the trains and buses are virtually nonexistent. And if you are hoping that guy next to you may be an undercover CPD officer, he isn't. Bye the way, we wouldn't benefit from these specialized units anymore, because we don't have enough officers that are stupid enough to try and conduct aggressive police work (can we still say that phrase?).
-Policies: The new use of force policies and interpretation of the same are self-evident in their intent and proven beyond a question of a doubt in countless recent examples by COPA, Kim and the usual suspects. In short, whether you are right or wrong is irrelevant. If someone complains or there is a hint of bad press, then you are not justified. If you doubt this, then the best of luck to you as you keep bringing in the "heads" that will almost certainly never result in a felony conviction with meaningful punishment (can we still use that word?).

Chicago is the only major city in the nation with our level of violence and there is no quick solution.

Officers, protect yourselves and your fellow officers. Protect and inform your family and friends.

What will help this? Add a couple of CCW carriers on those trains or buses... Rham does not want the police to touch or dust off any potential voters. Hey Rahm, I gotta say you are the only person I know of who can get elected by being light on crime. Anywhere else you would have been kicked out of office.

Good citizens, You all be careful on CTA. You want the police when you need them but you don’t want us to be the police when we’re fighting crime.

Conclusion: don’t call 911 or bother me. The 1st & the 16th are far more important than chasing any criminal. Sorry that it has come to these levels but I’m adjusting very very well

Until they have TSA type security for all CTA vehicles the idea of a gun free zone is a complete joke. Someone should sue them after accosted by armed thug on one of their transports. I love the fact that IL's CCW laws prohibit carrying in precisely the places one is likely to need to carry - trains and busses. I'll bet criminals know this, too. It's basically "CCW for wealthy people only" - because who else can afford a car and ridiculous parking prices in Chicago?

So glad I left that state.

I never understood why the restriction on LEGAL guns in public parks and transit, government owned buildings, etc. My grandkids learned to skate at Millineum Park years ago when they were little. Nothing like skating in the late afternoon and then going to Park Grill for dinner. What a great family outing. I haven't been there since the ban. I carry all the time and just can't accept the fact that I have to leave my firearm in my car in an unsecured parking garage. That seems like inviting someone to steal it. Same goes for Navy Pier. Fond memories, but never again. Unless the ban is lifted. I seem to remember a bumper sticker in the 60s that said something like " when guns are banned, only bad guys will have guns". It was on my fathers car. WAKE UP ILLINOIS POLITIONS !!!!!

01:51:00 is spot on, great post! A little OT but relevant. I like the part about the “crime prevention that is both visible and invisible.” I’ve heard that lie told at many beat meetings in 012/013. CAPS beat meetings here are full of lies. Citizens ask questions about not seeing a police presence and are told the lie, “just because you don’t see us doesn’t mean we’re not out there.” News Flash: We’re not out there! You’re on your own! Enjoy waiting an hour for a beat car to show up. We’d like to show up quickly but there’s not enough of us and we travel enormous distances to get anywhere. Epic fail, just admit it already. I feel for all the good tax paying people there that were bamboozled.

I recently rode the train home from Midway Airport to the North side, at midnight. I rode the Orange line to Roosevelt, transferring to the Red line at Roosevelt Rd. It was a quiet ride on the Orange line, but the Red line was completely out-of-control, from Roosevelt all the way out to Roger's Park, where I exited. People were rolling blunts in plain view and smoking them. I counted no less than five persons openly consuming alcoholic beverages on the train car I was on as well; some riders played their cell phone playlists at full volume, without even a consideration as to using headphones so as not to disturb other passengers. No one seemed to fear that a police presence would magically appear on the Red line at any time. It was just unbelievable, so much so, that I feel that the CTA really has no choice but to raise fares to the point whereby they have enough money on hand to create their own CTA police dept., as they used to have many years ago. It is apparent the the CPD's Mass Transit Unit is broken beyond repair, regarding providing any serious coverage of the City's CTA lines to any reasonable degree.
Not surprised at all to read that CTA crime has exploded. There is no deterrent to crime on the city's public transportation systems. The CTA should come up with a plan to create their own PD to rectify this horrible situation as it exists today.

Yes, by law, firearms are banned from all CTA public conveyances. Having said that, if you value your life, it is not recommended that you ride any of the rail transit lines without a concealed firearm on your person, as you may find the need for it.

Who cares, if you have to use your firearm, I would just leave. If you stay, you're going to lose your gun or wait forever for this fucked up department to return it. Have a plan to leave, there are no laws that say you have to stay. I've heard all the arguments about leaving or saying on the scene. The only thing I keep hearing, its obstruction of something, but the counter argument is you're the victim. Being the victim of a robbery and you shot the offender, is not obstructing anything. You remained in fear of your life and fled the scene. If you are identified, you believed there were other offenders on the scene or near. If I'm on the scene, you walk brother, professional courteously.

I haven't been on a CTA vehicle since I was in my teens in high school. Used to caddie at South Shore Country Club and would take the #17 bus from 102nd and Commercial. We'd also cut school occasionally (cause who can learn anything at shitty schools like Bowen High School) and we'd take the CTA train at 95th Street and go downtown to see a movie. Nowadays, I wouldn't be caught dead on a CTA vehicle without my S&W 5904. I'm also retired law enforcement carrying under HR218 but would carry even if I wasn't. It used to be that the CTA Red Line (aka Howard line) was safe at all hours north of the Loop. I least it was when I exited/got on at Morse or Loyola.

Now the entire system is infested with lowlifes at all hours, and riders at stops in "good" neighborhoods are being accosted and attached during daytime.

Chicago needs Rudy Giuliani's "quality of life" crime mentality. Kick each and every one of these feral vermin off the trains and buses as soon as a law is violated.
