Factory Leaves Illinois

We're afraid this is the beginning of a bad trend:
  • An Illinois steel company has finalized plans to move its operations to northwestern Indiana .

The state of Indiana announced Wednesday that Alliance Steel plans to invest $19.7 million in Gary, about 25 miles (40 kilometers) from its plant in Bedford Park, Illinois. The company is beginning renovations in Gary in early 2019 and could be operational there by January 2020.

Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb says it's "an exciting step forward" for northwestern Indiana.

Alliance Steel's CEO Andy Gross says the region is "making all the right moves to recreate a very promising industrial area."
As opposed to BJ Pritzker, who most likely won't be making Illinois anywhere near as welcoming.

This is rich hahaha, I bet that good ol BJ thinks he’ll replace it with a marijuana plant instead. This state is going to be a wasteland outside of Shitcago. Hey FOP, if there is one thing you get done for the contract fight for residency. Don’t feed us that bullshit that it’s not negotiable. Everything is

This tells us just how awful doing business in Illinois really is when a company leaves Illinois and relocates to the shithole that is Gary Indiana.

But wait, Bedford Park is always playing radio commercials of what a great location they have, close to Midway Airport, low taxes and lots of tiff money, and a great supply of drinking water, so what's the trouble. Oh yeah, you cannot ship steel on airplanes. And that water comes from Chicago, with those 100 year old water mains.

You know you are truly F-up when Gary Indiana has more to offer than Illinois. Good for Gary keep up the good work helping to drain the swamp. The workers that move along with the plant will be better off if they never set foot in IL again.

Bedford Park is not the issue, it more likely is the county and state. I'd like to see the numbers and who hammers these businesses the most.

Taxes will be going way up in Chicago, Cook County and Illinois in the coming years even with legal marijuana sales, casinos, video poker and sports gambling coming.

Crime is out of control in Cook County and Chicago with the implementation of the Preckwinkle policies by her minions Foxx, Dart and Evans.

The public service unions have no intention of taking less to help address the budget crises.

Therefore I am prepping my house for sale with the intention of departing for Dyer, Indiana and once I am residing there I will be demanding the politicians build a wall to keep the socialists from Illinois entering.

I am an industrial real estate broker who works throughout the Chicago Metro Area. The comments are very correct in that the Residential and Commercial markets of Gary are a shithole, but the industrial sector is booming because of substantially lower property tax rates and business relocation incentives from the State of Indiana. Workman's comp rates are lower and it is a right to work state.

Just drive through the communities of southern Lake County Indiana. Residential construction is booming because of all the people moving from Illinois into Indiana. I did. I sold my home in Orland Park. My property taxes were $13,700 per year when I left. Moved to Crown Point, IN. My property taxes for a brand new home, similar in size are $3,600 per year with good schools.

Industrial property tax rates in Bedford Park are out of sight. A business like Alliance Steel competes on a world-wide basis. They are tired of paying high property taxes for BS like oversize goverment pensions, bloated government costs, endless fees and City inspections. They don't give a damn about abundant water when Gary is able to offer the same thing.

Drive up the Tollway to Milwaukee and look at all the new industrial construction in Wisconsin. This is companies and jobs relocating to Wisconsin because they are getting the hell out of Dodge.

Thank you Mike Madigan. While it is good for his property tax appeal business, he has completely fucked up the State of Illinois. All that will be left are Dudes and welfare migrants to pay the taxes. Good luck with that.

As far as businesses are concerned, it is not just about the taxes. Workers comp rates are outrageous in Illinois compared to Indiana.

Results of the mid-terms showed that the voters of Illinois actually want the Illinois death spiral to accelerate. They demand higher property taxes, higher "convenience fees," and higher license fees.

They voted for it, and they will now get it.

This will be interesting.

If you have been watching the trends, Illinois is at the bottom of any manufacturing consideration and soon Wisconsin will be on a similar track. The Dem's took control in Wisconsin and it will be just a matter of time for it to fail like Illinois. A lot of coppers are buying retirement homes in Indiana thereby staying close to there trapped families in Illinois and paying less taxes. There's not many places left, the exodus of people from California is polluting other states, they're bringing liberal politics to States like Colorado, Arizona and other western states.

My good friend works for a company that checks out spots for major companies that want to relocate, he worked with amazon and you want to know a big reason Jeff Bezos decided no to Chicago, which has great transportation systems, a pool of workers, railroads everywhere, trucking companies, easy access to expressways a major reason? Here it is the politics and the crime, they analyze much data and read the "fake news" here. The mayor and the governor offered billions in taxpayers (us) cash, but they still said "NO!" Rahm and his democratic cohorts could not bedazzle this company because they are into making sure the areas they consider fit there criteria!

This is just like the canary in the coal mine. When the canary falls over dead you know it's time to get out of the mine due to the accumulation of deadly gasses. In this case, the deadly gasses flow from Madigan, Pritzker, Chicago, Cook and Springfield, and the chemical composition is HiGHerTaXEs.

Probably will be a tough move for many employees. But congrats to the owners for having the courage to make a difficult decision. Many owners will keep swallowing down the bile, grit their teeth and continue to endure the morass that is Illinois until they, too, can't stand it anymore. It's going to get a lot worse.

The CTU and various other SEIU locals are backing Prickwrinkle. They are showcasing their socialistic and crime driven views. I do not want to hear any school personnel complaining when the schools become even more plagued with crime, disrespect and disobedience then now. Isn't it amazing that people who allegedly work for a living are promoting those who will steal more of their tax dollars while endangering their lives and safety. Ignorant sheep!!

I know of another large steel company that did the same. Moved out of Illinois to Indiana just across the border. Offered jobs to the good workers and canned the slugs. Was union shoo in Illinois, non union in Indiana with much lower cost of doing business. Get out of Dodge while you can. You don't want to be the last one on the bus leaving town.

Same thing happpened in Bedford Falls when the old tool and machinery works closed. Put half the town out of work.
George Bailey convinced Sam Wainright to reuse it for his plastics factory instead of building in Rochester.
We don’t have that kind of critical thinking from politicians anymore, just corrupt greedy ones.
Pay entitlements and working jobs are passé.

The Village of Bedford Park was pushing its industrial park venue big time for a few years.
Like many outskirts towns that were picking up the overtaxed Chicago businesses that Dems were forcing out.
As far as phony climate change nonsense goes and global green-cash Illinois politicians are concerned, any hint of fumes coming from a plant is good riddance and will be touted as doing the community a favor.

ShortShanks and Rahm pushed manufacturing to the burbs and mostly to China.
I’m thinking Bedford - Cook County is about to reassess that complex like they did in most of the south suburbs where it’s commercial land is overtaxed and would be cheaper to have the same square footage in Chicago.
Homeowners and businesses out there will be paying for deadbeats. But Indiana will always be cheaper.

I remember the neighborhood around Finkl & Sons and a few other metals processing plants, factories of every sort where the locals worked for decades. Elston, Clybourn - Diversey south to Kinzie, all industrial-commercial. Finkl moved to the far southside (almost Indiana) and will probably fold, move or sellout to a foreign entity because of “pollution” in the already contaminated land Rahm probably gave them with a a sweet tax free TIF deal.

Re-zone properties Make Votes Not JOBS.

Indiana business income tax dropped by $300 million according to a NW Indiana newspaper, meaning the lost revenue will have to be made up by homeowners etc. Property taxes in rural counties have gone up 5+ % this year, the counties where you get nothing for your tax money but schools and tar and chip roads. Well water, private garbage collection only street light exists if homeowner puts it up, no sewers, septic systems, best hospitals are in Illinois, gasoline tax up 11 cents.

Don't kid yourself, if your job moved to Gary how would you like driving there everyday and don't forget, Indiana is a right to work state meaning lower wages.

Patrolman in NW Indiana Porter County make $56k a year and food is the same as Illinois.
And Indiana taxes ALL income including pensions, IRA's etc.
