Good Lord Bill - Shut Up

  • Former Mayor Richard M. Daley’s 22-year aversion to raising property taxes kept them unrealistically low compared to surrounding suburbs and laid the groundwork for Chicago’s $28 billion pension crisis.

Now, the former mayor’s brother is promising more of the same, at least for one year, maybe more, even with a looming, $1 billion spike in pension payments.

The pledge to freeze property taxes is the cornerstone of Bill Daley’s first television commercial of the mayoral campaign.
So one of the cornerstones of his campaign is "kick the can even further down the road" on the face of every single actuarial report saying there is nothing short of extensive property tax hikes....or bankruptcy.

His last name is Daley and he was the Chief of Staff for Obama. That makes him the worst candidate

The Daleys think they are a Political Dynasty; and when there were what they used to call White Ethnics running the City, they may have been; but the times and the demographics have changed. "Mumbles" Daley, King LIL Dick II, would NOT have won re-election. The Parking Meter Deal, and his sudden lock-jaw inability to provide testimony in several cases, especially Burge cases, Made "Mumbles" damaged goods. In addition, the fact that the "Colords", as his father used to call Black folks, were asking for more than he was willing to give. Bill like all Daleys, including nephews have done well financially, but he is too arrogant and distant to win enough support. Remember, Bill tested the political water before, threatening to run for Governor, on two prior occasions, only to back out at the last minute. And outside of the 11th and 19th Wards; the Daley legacy and name is virtually TOXIC. After all is said and done, there will be a run-off, and Bill Daley will NOT be one of the two remaining. Bankruptcy would mean opening up the books. Think city hall would even disclose the real numbers? TIF money? I think they will put slot machines all over and legalize weed first. Would that help? Couldn’t hurt.

Property taxes in Chicago should likely be raised 50%... So, in the case you want pensions funded; your taxes will be raised. If you don’t want a pension, keep the taxes the same.

Simple calculus and discrete mathematics tell you this.

Just like Detroit Chicago will go bankrupt. The city will have to sell of any remaining assets to first pay of debtors owed money by the city. Then the rest will go to shore up pensions if any money is left. In Detroit pensioners came out in fairly good shape. Chicago might be unable to continue paying pensioners their just due. What a mess.

Another Daley in charge should sink the city and any pension connected with it. For that any democrat will do the same, maybe slower but the result will be the same. A Republican doesn't stand a chance so down the drain you go. You get the government you vote for so blame yourselves after all you voted for them and if you didn't vote you are double guilty.

They are not unrealistically low. Why should I pay any more than $4k a year on a parcel that is 110 x 30 for an 1100 sq ft raised ranch in Garfield Ridge, when the public schools my kids would have to go to are terrible? You think I’m sending my kids to Kennedy HS? What exactly am I getting for my taxes? And every Catholic school - the forced upon us, $10k annual tuition minimum ($17k if you want your kids to go to a good school) - is closing. Now that water is metered and charged up the ass, there is no benefit to living in the city. I have one marked squad car in 811 and it can never be found. There are dope deals on my block. Home invasions. Elderly being beaten. Burglaries. Constant car break ins. Nothing but vacant store fronts on Archer Ave - not one decent restaurant and one loan store, ghetto barber shop, tattoo parlor, nails by nay-nay, video gaming parlor, and ghetto cellar store after another are the only business opening. The alderman (Ed Burke) is a crook and nothing is done in my ward. I pay 7 cents for a fucking grocery bag. You think my taxes are unrealistically high? Ok dude.

I’m moving to New Lenox where my taxes will be $7500 a year. Yeah, I know, $3,500 more. And for that I will get a 2400 sq ft house on 1/2 acre where my wife and kids can go anywhere and have 1/100th the concern about whether they’ll be carjacked or held up for their cell phone. Dozens of restaurants and grocery stores. Great public (FREE) schools. Shit, the $180k I’ll save by not paying Catholic school tuition will cover the tax difference in my lifetime. There are more cops than I can count. Real park districts, with real programs, beautiful buildings, and unbelievable equipment. Cheap gas. I can even have a package left on my porch and not worry, instead of paying for a PO Box that closes at 5 and trying to get my shit every Saturday, if the post office hasn’t stolen, lost, or damaged it - a regular occurrence in this neighborhood. I will no longer pay over $100 for a city sticker. I won’t be getting fucked in the ass by the Daley family and their generations of family crooks. My streets will be plowed. English won’t be a second language. Way more than the additional $3,500 is worth.

And guess what? People like me are leaving in droves. So are businesses. Look around you. Look at who is leaving, and who is moving in (enjoy your sanctuary city). 3 familias in one house on my block, with a total of 7 cars. For one house. And the only people left in this neighborhood are going to be Chicago city workers forced to live in this shithole - saying a property tax freeze is “kicking the can.” Well I hope they raise them through the goddam roof, because in a couple months I won’t be paying them and neither will hundreds of other law abiding, police supporting, non-resource draining tax payers. Enjoy your can. It will be Grr8! Ha!

Raising taxes in this city would be par for the course of shitty decisions in the worst run city, in the worst run county, in the worst run state in the nation. Anyone who makes a statement like “Chicago taxes are low compared to surrounding suburbs”, and thinks that’s a problem, is nuts. You get what you pay for in this world.

As on the previous article about Vanecko, you could use the same title for this one-
"Where did all the money go?"
Years and years of politicians (city and state) not putting in THEIR share of the pension requirement, while we gave EACH and EVERY paycheck, year after year....."where did all that money go?" We took smaller paychecks for 30+ years on the premise and promise of our pension being there for us, since Rostenkowski (thief) took away most of our Social Security benefit.

Yet these same city and state politicians, along with the MSM, keep making US the bad guys.......while they did their pet projects, stole and swindled from the budget for their special "constituents", politically-connected firms, and friends.
BUILD THE DAMN CASINO In Chicago- and PAY THE PENSION......
Indiana -Ohio- all making money off their casinos.....money that rightfully belongs in Chicago, paying back what has literally been stolen from us.

That’s cute...a one year promise of no new taxes.
But every other revenue grab is on the table. Fees are no taxes.
Water, garbage, cell phones, cable, dogs, cat and bike licensing - you name it and there’s going to be an increased fee for it.

ShortShanks 3.0 also wants to pull the CPS open end property tax levy privilege too.
JB NoToilet tax dodger will have to change some regulations to do that.
Then the downstate school districts can get stiffed again as CPS will once again get the lions share of gubmint money Illinois already doesn’t have.
And while he’s at it, JB will likely add an addendum to tax all pensions to fill the void.

ShortShanks 3.0 is full of shit.
CTU just endorsed PugNastyWrinkle too, so much for that CPS tax levy repeal and any increase to their 2% pension contribution.

Thanks for your simple input! You completely miss all the points. First, pensions were not properly funded and money was squandered. This was done without any workers' consent or desire. Secondly, do you think the politicians will actually use all of the money from a tax increase to fund said pensions? Third and lastly, let's not forget that the entitlement leeches, combined with the cost of violent crime and the never ending pet projects (bike lanes, stadiums, river walks, flyovers, trails, etc.) are the real tax drain that needs to stop.

Respectfully SCC, I disagree.

Illinois already has the second highest level of property taxes in the nation. Further increases will only push those on fixed incomes out of their homes and increase the exodus from Illinois. This has been well documented over at www.WirePoints.com

Further, the problem has grown so large that NO AMOUNT of tax increases or cost cutting can solve the problem because it is so big. Amazing but true. The problem is not one of taxpayer funding, nor the rate of return on assets invested. The problem is the exponentially growing benefits that have been promised (increased over 1000% in the last 10 years), by politicians like Boss Madigan in exchange for votes and campaign contributions.

See e.g.

http://www.wirepoints.com/illinois-official-pension-shortfall-worsens-to-134-billion-despite-strong-markets-increased-contributions/

and

http://www.wirepoints.com/pensions/

What needs to be done is:

1. Amend the Illinois Constitution to allow pension benefits to be renegotiated.
2. Allow Illinois municipalities to file for bankruptcy.

Raise whatever other taxes you like; just stay away from the property tax.

More importantly, who is going to host the Oscars this year? The liberal Hollywood elite picked a black man (Kevin Hart), probably to placate the black community because they don't nominate enough black movies, actors, directors.... for academy awards. THEN, their liberal choice (Kevin Hart) pissed off all the LBGT community by expressing his 1st amendment guaranteed opinion that he was not a fan of gays and hoped his son would not be gay. OMG! The liberals are eating each other. WHAT GROUPS ASS AM I SUPPOSED TO KISS THIS WEEK? Don't worry bitches! You'll ALL be kissing Donald Trump's ass in January of 2021. I now live in this neighborhood since 2010. I remember living in the Belmont cragin /025 area by the brickyard mall in the early 90s. It was a great working class neighborhood filled with Italian Americans, Polish Americans, and other Europeans. It took a decade for my old neighborhood to turn into a complete shithole. Since moving to the clearing/ Garfield ridge area I have seen the same exact trend. Neighborhood is changing in the same way. It’s just taking a bit longer because see in the 90s, there were other good neighborhoods to move into. Now, not so much. This area will be a complete shithole in the next 10 years. And by the way, if you built an addition onto your home you will lose that money. You will never get it back. Also, it doesn’t take 5 mins to get to Lagrange even if you live on 57th and neva.

OK, right, let's jack up every homeowner's property taxes but before that, lets take a bunch of park district property and give it to a privately run Obama center, and charge them $10 for just under a century. We can stick the same taxpayers with all the infrastructure costs to put utilities in this facility, and just so it looks like there's actually something inside, we can put a branch of the Chicago Public library in there, even though all the other branches of the library in the City have restricted hours. Where the fuck do these people come up with this shit?

If this facility was going to contain Obama memorabilia or records of his accomplishments as president, you'd have copies of his 2 books and the one his lady just published. What a boondoggle this is. And meanwhile Rome is burning while Nero fiddles.

Didn't they just complete roads and infrastructure along the extended Lake Shore Drive? Why not put the structure there?

Thanks for proving the point. As was stated, move to the suburbs if you want nice things. In Chicago you’re paying taxes to live somewhere where you must drive elsewhere to get anything of quality - good public schools, stores, land, housing, and restaurants. Or stay and keep the fine dining going at peaches and pears. The complimentary stale 1 inch kolacky really makes it worth keeping a yard you can spit across, as well as looking out your kitchen window into your neighbor’s like the Cramdens.

Oh, and you don’t have to pay a 9% amusement tax to play your PlayStation in the suburbs. You can play your PlayStation all goddam day if you want. Purchase whatever subscription you want - no money goes toward the suburb. Chicago is taxing the video games you play in YOUR house. Yeah, it’s not a bad neighborhood at all! Lol. Your comparisons and exaggerations (drive 5 minutes? It takes 10 minutes to get from Central to Harlem) are hysterical.

Hey man let me know how much of that 9% amusement tax on games you play at home is going toward your pension.
