Aside from it being a terrible move to be the police nowadays, you could be a shining candidate only to be disqualified by some arbitrary psych test. I know people who actually went through the whole process, come from LEO backgrounds and past LEO jobs only to be tossed by that bitch. There’s no sense in decisions sometimes. This is pathetic. I took the entrance exam twice. First time was in the late 60s I passed the written exam but when I got the notification for the physical I did not take it as I was trying to finish college. I took it again and made it in the early 70s after waiting a few years on the list. During this time period women and minorities who also waited to be called were awarded a monetary settlement and seniority for the time they waited. White males were excluded.
I remember you had to go to City Hall fill out a card and they would notify you of the next exam. I remember you had to go to some City office to purchase a civil service stamp in order to take the exam. I also remember going to 54 W. Hubbard for the physical and power test. You were told to strip down to your underwear shorts and the gave you a paper shopping bag to carry around your clothes. The physical was where they thinned the herd. A large number of people were told they had heart mummers (fake) and failed. You were told if you failed you were to leave the building as it was final. I passed and left and noticed many of those who failed were still waiting in the building, maybe for their clout to arrive. I remember you had to get a chest xray at City Hall which I did and they lost it so I had to go back to get another. Then you were interviewed by sworn member from personnel. So after time went by I got the letter which notified you were starting the academy.
At that time a lot of people were looking to get on and the job was desirable. Nobody was begging you to come on. You had to jump thru the hoops and wait. If they have to have a recruitment telethon there is really something wrong.
And my son was part of that group that Tracy Lardner disqualified. His mistake was he was the wrong ethnic group and told them of his relatives on the job.
Maybe they can send cabs and Ubers to pick these snowflakes up.
Everybody must be catching on. Going on this job and going to prison for doing your job is like visiting one of those countries where the ebola virus is rampant. What could go wrong!

This could be like jerry lewis telethon. Instead of the handicapped kids they could bring out the handicapped exempts. Just show how stupid they really are in order to encourage others to take the test to replace them.
Took the exam in 1975, along with about 34,000 other applicants. Morgan Park, Lane Tech and a bunch of other large high schools were packed. It took about 3 years to get processed and into the Academy. I think the job started at about $24k. The starting pay is obviously a lot higher now, but the City really fucked this job up if you have to beg volunteers to call applicants to beg them to show up for the next phase of processing. Way to go CPD!
Make the exempts do this, yes it will be stretching the limits of their brains, but if you want the best go with your best.
This is both stupid, having to "remind people" to show up for something "they" are interested in and reminded me how I appreciated G.H.W. Bush who at the age of 19 showed up over 50 times to fly his warplane in combat missions against the Japanese at great peril to himself and his crew members Or the entire 8th Air Force who showed up to fly perilous daylight bombing missions against Germany during WWII. I know these modern day toddlers do not like to be mocked but often times they do not earn my respect.

What a joke, if you have to remind someone to take the test or send them a notice that they missed it then why in the world do we want them. This is just saying hey, we know you minorities have issues getting anywhere on time but we love all of you and try to make it to school on time, then after probation just get to work whenever. They need to run seats on the new hires to follow thier careers and see just how many screw up. It will happen with what they are hiring. There are plenty of legit black folks who would be good cops, but the city is to stupid to try and get them.

I know a kid now trying to get on the Fire department.
He and and a group of 80 others went to the fire academy this past August.
Everyone was told to bring 2 copies of the questionnaire they were to fill out.
Sure enough, the "moron" collecting everything said you just need 1 copy.
6 weeks later, the kid along with all the other candidates (YES, all Caucasian) received an email and were told they "failed the process" for not having the correct paperwork; 2 copies of the questionnaire.
This demo-crat shit-hole will NEVER change until the 'element' is taken out of power.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it free to take the test now. If these lazy schlocks can't even get out of the rack for an exam, how can they be expected to spend the next 1-2 years on all the pre hiring requirements, dropping 8,000 bucks for all the gear, and spend 6 months at the academy.

Have FOP add a few extra holidays into the contract like Super Bowl Sunday, NBA Finals, Fathers and Mother’s Day so we can be like the jail guards and have large absenteeism on those days. Anything to appease the new hires

When I was going through the process in 2006 it was pretty much the same ball game, you didn’t show up or fail your power test - your sorry ass was gone, they yield at the applicants if they did something stupid or didn’t follow the orders. The job was desirable and a lot of good candidates were eliminated by Tracy. All this shit show started just recently

as another posted i took the test in the early 70s and they made you jump thru lots of hoops. i remember standing on a metal staircase in front of windows in our underwear for hours in some industrial building in the south loop. they had the job, kiss our ass if you want it. even then it was postponed for years by community lawsuits. i served an apprenticeship, got married and forgot about the test. one day a sarge called the house and ordered that i appear at the academy in a couple days. i never even bothered calling them back. thats the way it used to be. now they give them a wake up call and send a limo to their safe space to pick them and their momma up to take the test, and see if they can get the round peg in the square hole. the breakdown of society is at hand and emporer rahm fiddles whole shitcago burns. what a joke!

A friend of mine spent 10 years in Afghanistan serving his country college-educated masters degree comes from a strong family and wanted to be a Chicago police officer for a very long time. He was disqualified. Although he was heartbroken at the time and that was about six years ago I remember having a conversation with him a little after Ferguson happen and told him that it was the best thing they could have Happened to him. Fast forward to now he Has a career in finance owns three houses in three different states and is just getting married and starting a family. Oh and he doesn’t live in this shithole state anymore so I would say that it all worked out in the end. Thank you Ladner.
So now that Tracey Ladner gained all that internal police police information while Director of HR for CPD she is now engaged in a law firm, Shah PC 300 S. Wacker, that files lawsuits under 42 USC 1983 Civil Rights. And can you guess who might be prosecuted and/or sued under this famous statute?

They put no time in...yet, this job is a tremendous hardship to them. They don’t want to learn anything nor wish to touch/search anyone. They are in fact... perfect for today’s environment. Also, tell these officers to get off their iPhones.

I remember the days when they gave a CPD test every 4-5 years and you got 20,000 plus who took it at multiple CPS high schools throughout the city. Now they're lucky to get 1,000 to take the test 2-3 times per year. And they have to beg those applicants to even show up. God, how far we have fallen as a police department.
I took the test in '81. Had to go to Madison and Kedzie to fill out this card. Kept a little stub, like a coat check stub. Get the letter for the test. It says, bring that stub, this letter, 2 #2 pencils. Report to Lane tech, No one will be admitted after doors close at 9 am.
Get there about 8:15, First thing some guy running the show says, "Who doesn't have that stub or letter? Come up here so we can give you a new one. Next get into the classroom and "Who doesn't have 2 pencils? Come up here and get a couple." Then about 9:45, "We'll wait a couple more minutes for anyone that's late."
It was the coming attraction to my next 30 years on this job.

We need more police, not more people who didn't qualify for a better job, so took the fallback job of police because it was easy to get in the door. Sounds like you really earned that pension.
