Sergeant Arbitration

After three years without a Contract, the PBPA has declared an impasse and will be filing for arbitration sometime before summer. A few points:
  • the PBPA loses nothing by going first as it were. It is a separate entity from the FOP and any decisions reached by them are supposed to be in the best interests of their membership, not the FOP's;
  • we're told that the meetings were pretty much (1) City demands, (2) PBPA refuses to negotiate, (3) City leaves, so there isn't anything on the table. We're also told there is no "me too" among the FOP and PBPA;
  • by filing before Lightfoot is even in power, the PBPA could wrong-foot the city negotiating team, unless she keeps Rahm's people in place;
We state this only because there have been a few tiny brains in the comments spouting off about how the sergeants caved and are screwing the rest of us. Obviously they haven't been through contract negotiations before - it's every group for themselves - laborers, streets, teachers, fire, FOP, PBPA, etc.

I have total confidence that FOP will get us a contract now that Pat Murray is retired and committed to earn his 200k a year. FOP contract says that Field Reps are six active members on a leave from the Dept. How many "Field Reps" does FOP have? Nine and no one is ever in the office when I call.

You think the FOP is not going to arbitration? Won't it be 3 years for the FOP next month?

Good Luck with the current ACTOR's at FOP 2 do anything!

BUT

If FOP goes to arbitration and the VERY WEAK PBA caves in to

LOW raises
INSURANCE
CR# investigation
retention of body cam

The City will produce the agreement and show that it is fair because SGT are just a step above a patrol officer.

So just curious? What are the funding levels for all those other unions and pensions. How far is city behind in total pension payments? Bet the Mayors and Aldermen pensions are fully funded.

Think what they did is a great idea.....tired of beating their head against the proverbial DEMONcratic wall......

Economy is good, wages going up, job numbers keep going up......got little last time due to crappy Obama economics, now is the time to
fight for arbitration, since the city won't negotiate, and only stalls, stalls, delays, and stalls. With all that TIF money flowing out by 9 1/2 before he loses his crown- shows how much this city really has in its coffers to,offer fair decent raises to those who serve and protect.

And if this city has a really nice warm and sunny summer, with lots and lots of tourists visiting downtown, spending lots and lots of money, maybe then the police will be appreciated by the new powers that be......

What made everyone believe this isn’t the way it was going to go anyway. Could have done this a year ago. The city was never going to give us anything. Where have you been?

I think it’s the right move. How sad is it that the city won’t even honor the me too clause on salary and forces the union to file for arbitration for something that was agreed on in the contract. File for arbitration and pass out those retro checks next spring!!

Sergeants were elevated to the #1 negotiating spot because the City viewed their team as the weakest. Fact!

There is no binding arbitration, period. The city council has to approve the arbitration so it is not binding if. If we receive say a decent pay raise, all they have to do is not approve the arbitration

No. Read your contract. It expired June 30, 2017. That’s two years

Their is a “me too” clause. The Sgt union has it, the FOP does not. Believe they bargained it away years ago. That’s why Sgt and Lts have nothing to lose. They lock in their sand anything FOP gets in addition, they receive because of the me to clause

Sergeant Arbitration, do he work midnights in The Deuce?

Active Members can only hope for status quo at best.
Plenty of city attorneys posturing for positions so they’ll be as eager to enlighten LightLoafer with there expertise, not that she’s completely in the dark but certainly started to make her mind up 17 years ago how to deal with CPD.
I recall several Contracts ago FOP was pleased to have Benn as the chosen arbiter, having been used in a previous contract that sided well for the membership. That second time wasn’t a charm we hoped for and he sided with the City.

The what’s good for the goose/gander doesn’t apply for us.
They all can settle first.
Unless FOP gets something extraordinarily better, that would allow a Me Too clause for PBPA, CFU2 and anyone else who takes the city bait.

FOP, please dont insert squad cars into the contract again like last time. If the city won't supply them, I will walk to my radio assignments. And I dont care about golf outings and pizza parties, do the damn job you are supposed to do, and dont sell us all out for that promotion for you or your family member, or a trip to Vegas. SMH.

Even though I really want 80% and all the blunt I can smoke supplied by city reefer lockers, I’m a realist.

Just keep the 2% so I can get the fuck outa here.

Seems easier for people who have probably never been to an FOP meeting to complain about the PBPA than address Lodge 7’s malfeasance.

By declaring an impasse and requesting arbitration that holds the topics of the arbitration at the items in play already, the city can't throw more shit into the game..... Actually if you look at it, they ARE protecting their members so that Lightfoot can't throw more "Social Justice" bullshit in the negotiations against the police.
