BOHICA!

When you can hold children hostage as a negotiating ploy, sawed off dwarves cave to your every demand - we saw it with 9.5, we just saw it again with Groot.

But when you lay your life on the line for others, the mayor shows up at a press conference, chokes up a little bit, maybe sheds a few (fake) tears, and spouts the same narrative about how we should all appreciate those who are all that fold back utter chaos....

.....and you get this in return:
  • Mayor Lori Lightfoot deliberately dodged a City Council rebellion by steering clear of a massive property tax increase and using one-time revenues to erase nearly half the $838 million budget shortfall she inherited.

    [...]

All bets are off if Lightfoot strikes out again during the spring session — or if the 16% pay raise she gave to striking teachers turns out to be a floor for police officers and firefighters, whose contracts expired 2.5 years ago.

According to the City Council’s Office of Financial Analysis, the budget now includes funding to cover a meager police pay raise of 1.6%.
The FOP hasn't had a Contract in 2.5 years, the supervisors for 3.5 years, and you don't see any Department members grabbing hostages and demanding something even close to 16%.

Maybe it's time to switch strategies?

"When you can hold children hostage..."

As for the CTU strikes, I always held the position to let the wee ones 'remain hostage'.

By some theory, kids learn more in terms of real life skills when not in CPS SJW indoctrination camp classrooms and with old Mr Wizard episodes on DVD and accessible by streaming and the 'university of the internet' search engines for inquiring minds plus good old fashion printed BOOKS you can get cheap from Amazon and give the youth to read, the kids might not be missing out on all that much anyway.

16% but the cover is up... Time for the teachers to kick back and enjoy some box wine.

I was worried about Lightfoot... I feared she would not piss away money, not cave to teacher's unions and leave the city worse off financially as she might actually collect solid revenue vis a vis water bills and parking fines plus NOT make inner circle hires which do nothing but cost tax payers an extra $100k or more a throw all while having no way out of the debt spiral but to raise property taxes to the moon.

My fears have been 100% unfounded. Lori is truly a reformer of the and for the ages.

Hey FOP switch strategies or get out of the way. We are at the ass end of Larry's administration. With past experience as our guide, we know you'll role over and get "backdoor'd and you won't even get a courtesy "reach around". You're gonna get dry boned and you'll ask for another. If that happens - a no vote for you.

"Cave in" I doubt it for Rahm or Leadfoot. The CTU is really SEIU a Democrat party money laundering operatios. Groot caved the day the teachers would have lost health care plans and had been forced to individually pay for COBRA insurance. Had the strike lasted longer she would have started gaining traction to win. It was all about the appearance with both the short strikes to get money to the SEIU (Obamas's ACORN) to keep the DNC and donations rolling in. Watch the teachers union dues go up? How much does SEIU give to Democrats and the DNC. It was all a fix and HOAX. 16% for them offered before the strike even began. Now claims nothing left for first responders because Local 2 and FOP combined are tiny next to the SEIU DNC operation. CTU and SEIU are socialist lead radical groups, and Rahm and Larry are in bed with them.

This is embarrassing or it should be, but, you never about the ideals of the CTU socialist.

Check out the tshirt of a smart ass response CTU VP Staci Davis Gates made when answering reporters questions during the 11-day teacher strike. The CTU is promoting it on their Twitter page.

The t-shirt is said to be made by a Canadian company Gildan which has factories in other foreign third world countries with non-union workers

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gildan

The link to buy the t-shirt is on the photo

Syrike tidbit..Steinmetz high school security guard Samuel Pearson was not only a scab during the strike by crossing the line to work and paid to do nothing as there were no kids in the building, he came out from the building and helped himself to food from the striking teachers and staffers food table. Then, took the food back inside and locked school doors so strikers couldn't use any bathrooms. Be careful as we have POs who work in Steinmetz building and around this scab.

The teachers have the optics "it's for the children" more importantly they have very real political clout, a very active and effective lobbying organization, local ,statewide and national, them that has getts, if anybody can come up with a strategy that will work and get everybody on board it hasn't happened yet

The Teachers Union played this one like a fine symphony orchestra. As I said before, when they finished their strike, we would get the scraps. I also don’t want to hear any bullshit like “they can strike” either. They put so much pressure on Groot that she couldn’t wait to settle. Will the FOP call in Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren and other candidates to help? Will they march around City Hall like rabid animals? Will they illicit media support for their demands. The answer is NO....as in NO BALLS. We need professional negotiators like the teachers union has.

as a police officer or fire fighter, you have no other strategies. You cannot strike and must go to arbitration. The teachers can strike and they use this to hold the children hostage. The parents need to get to work and do not want the kids on the streets so they march along with the teachers . They also use children in their marches holding signs of support for the teachers. Education is now much more then teaching the basics, it is indoctrinating the young people in social justice warfare and progressive ideas.

The strategy should be to use the organization’s own rules against itself. We have General, Special Orders and Employee Resources along with Municipal code and State Law which we could use against the city to bring it to the bargaining table. Most of us have completed the Elearning for 2020 Firearms Qualification. Did you know that after you fail the qualification with under a 70% for a second time, you will be enrolled in an intensified class and can not be assigned to Field Duties until you pass? What if everybody had a few bad days on the range? Imagine the chaos that would cause! That is one example of hundreds of using their own rules and policies against them to gain some leverage in negotiations. What do you say? Anybody feeling a little shaky on the range this year?

They need to get back to the basics of fighting this city tooth and nail on every issue affecting us, and not worry about golf outings, barbecues, and Christmas parties. Part of the problem that we have in trying to get a decent salary increase is all the "benefit" money that the city says we get: uniform allowance, duty availability and for the bosses the supervisor's quarterly. Also there is the unlimited accumulation of comp time (another deferred comp program in reality). These "bonuses" are always touted as a reason to keep the yearly salary increase lower than other unions.

You know I have been thinking about this - the whole Van Dyke thing and shooting an offender - a decision the jury later thinks is "unreasonable." My beef is with the word "unreasonable." think about it - the line between a good shoot (where a cop is doing what he is paid for and taking a dangerous felon off the street) and a bad shoot is whether the jury finds it 'reasonable." Every other legal standard is a real standard. For murder "intent' is required, and I think 'recklessness' is also part of the murder statute. Reckless means who knew of, or a should have known of the risk of your act, but you committed the act anyway, even though you did not intend the result. That;s like the guy who shoots into a crowd, he does not intend to kill, but reasonable man would have known the great risk of death by such an act, and committed the act anyway. He is guilty of murder because his act was reckless. Now second degree murder only requires that it be 'unreasonable.' No mention of intent, recklessness, or even negligence - just 'unreasonable." I have a huge problem with that standard when you are on the line for murder. "unreasonable" to me means 'ya, I kind of wouldn't have taken that course of action." It's like choosing between Cherrios for breakfast or corn flakes - a somewaht arbitrary standard. The Il Legislature should change the standard to 'reckless' at the very least. Just a thought.

Not so fast about sucking down stay hard gin in red solo cups with Sam Pearson at Steinmetz:

“Since the establishment of OSP, Steinmetz staff have reported incidents using proper protocol in a timely manner," according to the statement. “As part of its commitment to provide targeted support, the Office of Student Protections will provide additional training to the Steinmetz school community."

The letter that went out last week to Steinmetz parents was about a security supervisor (Pearson), though it didn’t include his name or job title. It stated that a staff member had “engaged inappropriately with a student" and had been removed from the school while the Office of the Inspector General had opened an investigation.

Without elaborating, CPS officials said the security supervisor faced “allegations of inappropriate conduct involving a student" and was removed without pay. The impacted student’s parents were notified, and the Office of Student Protections and Title IX was connecting with the student.

“Please know that we are taking this situation seriously, and we remain committed to providing our students with a safe, positive learning environment where they can reach their full potential," wrote the school’s principal, Jaime Jaramillo. "While I am unable to discuss details regarding the investigation, I am always available to discuss steps the district takes to keep students safe and matters related to your child.”

Speaking of shoveling, many years ago after a real bad blizzard they bought a snow shovel for every car in the district. Then they came to roll call and wanted the p.o.'s to dig out the rear of the vehicles so the license plate was visible so the car could be ticketed and towed. The plow wash by these cars was waist high and they were like little igloos and this shit was hard as hydraulic cement. After the boss walked out of the roll call room we were laughing so hard half of us were literally crying. Even the little suck ass watch snitches realized that this was a FUBAR house mouse plan. Ahh, the good old days.

Even better, after the blizzard in Feb 2011, an email was sent to everybody asking department members to volunteer shoveling out CTA stops and crosswalks.

Just a thought.

reasonable gets you an award and unreasonable gets you a prison cell
