They have to close ranks, a reactionary element that isn't a SJW of color might get elected if they don't. They realize that their base is moving out of town so they have to stack the deck as long as they can because the white and hispanic populations of the city are stable or growing, the black middle class is fleeing as fast as they can. The majority of people moving out of the city are black voters. Of course, that could change as the years move on, but right now, that's the way the demographic trends are blowing.

Two points. First, back when Lightfoot was running for mayor she was repeatedly asked for her opinion of Foxx dropping charges against Smollett. Lightfoot always brushed off the question with saying that's not important, we have bigger issues to deal with in Chicago. I knew right then and there that she was always going to support Foxx.
Second, did George Soros donate to Lightfoots campaign? Need to research.

So what evidence is the Mayor presenting that these things are occurring? I attended college online for a Criminal Justice Degree. Every single black female, in every single discussion board, spouts off about how unfair the justice system is to "people of color".
