That Chase

We had a couple of emails about that chase in 011 the other day that ended with five cops hurt:
  • it began as on-view shots fired, with a rifle involved;
  • the car is the one that rammed a squad up in 016 a few days prior;
  • the occupants are wanted for approximately 90 ATM robberies;
  • they're also part of the O'Hare carjacking crew, stealing multiple cars at a time
We know these are mostly property crimes, so we aren't endorsing chases out of hand, but ramming an occupied squad crosses into the "justifiable" category. We guess you have to be your own judge of what you're willing to risk, personally and professionally.

Off topic. Dear inside people, you cant have lunch on the end per g/o. Leaving and swiping half hour early everyday is against g/o. The system shows "unknown swipe" which is just as bad as not swiping at all.

We all chased for far lesser reasons back in the day but we did not crash into each other or crash period with the frequency that has been going on in that District.We all knew that once we engaged in the wild chase that we absolutely had to catch the bad guys.I know easier said then done but those were the rules of the game.

Only 90 ATM robberies? Wonder if Crimesha's faux threshold for felony prosecutions on ATM robberies is an even hundred? If so, these poor, misguided yufz won't even get any time at all.

Yeah, I guess it was worth the chase and the chopper.
Rifle involved, 90 ATMs, airport carjacking. FBI stuff.
So, bottom line, these guys still on the loose?

The problem is two fold: This county has fostered a very hands off, hug a thug, non pro active police environment. It’s beyond the point of being even re-active to crime. It’s ‘be extremely careful in how you attempt to get these dangerous people into custody’ because anything more than having them willingly surrender to you with padded soft white leather gloves can land your ass in call back, get you sued and or fired. As you will be the only one held accountable should anything go less than perfect. The second issue is: 011. In and of itself has turned into a complete rookie district. With very few veterans if any there left to guide these newbies on how to do things. One of them being how to drive a squad car fast but with at least some regard to traffic, obstacles, possible blind hazards etc ... Add to that the fact that many of the new recruits the academy is churning out these days are know it alls. Couple years in and they’re expert policemen. With all this you have the perfect conditions for disastrous things to happen and people getting hurt. I’m not even going to mention these jack off bosses demanding activity who could care less about the wellbeing of the troops so long as they get their numbers up so they can kiss ass and look good at Compstat.

We all have a job to do and took an oath. We also have an expectation that our employer will back us up as we perform our job. Blood and guts police work will always be criticized by people who have never done this job and get to monday morning quarterback everything which we do. As you go home at night after your shift and look at your children sound asleep in their beds, you come to the realization that if you take that risk and lay it all on the line the consequences could be disastrous for you as well as your family. Your damn right it's an individual decision whether to take that risk, for a police department who doesn't have my back and a civilian oversight agency that would love my head on a silver platter.

When you say an ATM “robbery”, does that mean robbing people who are using the ATM? Because it would also consider that good reason to pursue. Or were they burglarizing they ATM? I haven’t seen either in the paper so I don’t know.

Just shot/stabbed/seriously wounded or killed a police officer, that's what is justifiable for me. Not... crashed a car a few days ago, psmv, robbery, uuw or even shots fired

The game has completely changed. Your intentions and the arrest might be good, but if you violated policy, they WILL still shove it up your ass. Don't believe me? Just try it.

I wonder how many day and PM watches even have a copper who checks out a rifle or brings his own? We have to many guys who think their handguns are enough yet they can't even shoot their handguns worth a shit. We even have qualified ones who wont check one out out of fear of looking to "Policie" and being laughed at by the dog ass's on the watch. Or they fear looking impolitic in this chickenshit outfit. If they even have the carbine program going anymore and If you can even find a car with a rifle rack that actually works.

Ask Dallas PD if that weapon is an edge or not. On 7-7-16 they had 5 POs killed and 9 wounded by one racist nut job with a long gun and they had to kill him with a robot bomb, and brother if you think command is going to roll out a robot bomb then you be first thru the door cause your expendable.

We dont even have a fucking working robot let alone a bomb.

Remember if your race is blue then your hated and your life means nothing in a city that is rapidly becoming a 3rd world Narco state ran by cop hating Leftist shit bags.

Nothing good comes from chases. Unless someone you count the milli9ns in checks the city has written to cover all the bad chase outcomes. Let's see if they have rifles probably out gun you and they probably have armor piercing ammo as well. Still worth chasing. Just the what would you do if you caught up with them, be willing targets. Swat would be minutes away when seconds count. Why not just follow with an unmarked until they stop somewhere then get Swat involved when they ar3 out of vehicles. Better possible outcome.

You know why you haven’t heard anything about this? Because it didn’t exactly happen as reported. Nowhere near as reported. Everybody thinks they know everything about something, when in fact it’s the blind leading the blind on this job.

These are four or five (or more) different incidents/patterns all rolled into one, bits and pieces of the particulars borrowed from one another to come up with some cockamamie out of control “crew” (you hand jobs can quit using terminology like this - you ain’t Pacino going after De Niro in ‘Heat’, toughguy) terrorizing the city and suburbs.

Unless it directly involve me, my family, loved ones, close friends or good neighbors, these assholes can carry-on carrying on. Don’t take this shit personal kids - until you have to.

Trust me when I say that I used to be the “real police”. Now I’m just the real smart police. This is a job with a paycheck, vacation time and health insurance and nothing more. My job is to get myself and whatever coworker I’m seated next to on any given day home in the same condition in which we arrived for work. Being a Chicago policeman and everything it stood for as recently as even 20 years ago has died on the vine. In case you haven’t noticed it, “they” don’t want us to be the police anymore. Which is fine by me. I make damn good money for doing almost nothing and having very little stress in my life as it relates to my employment. The sooner you hardheaded motherfuckers figure this out, the sooner you’ll get to that finish line unscathed.

Nope!!! You might he lucky enough to get a vehicle that has a rack with a release system that isnt broke or has been jacked up by dumb coppers that cant take of anything that isnt their own, and even then. Wont check one out from the department because when is the last time you saw someone come in and maintain them. I wont take my own out chancing it being stolen from my crappy rack system in my vehicle which the department will not reimburse you for especially if you have toys on your riffle. All racks in the Fords or crown vic's are in the back making them useless in an emergency. Suburbs have them in the front where the officers can have quick access to then in the time of need. Yeah.. F that I'll keep mine at home where it's safe and I can keep it handy for protecting my family at home and not shit heads killing other shit heads.

I see reading comprehension isn’t your strong suit, huh “Ranger Bob”?

Your half cocked, quasi condescending response to my post bolsters my point. You see, no one is “having their way with me”.

Quite to the contrary, actually. I am having MY WAY with everything job related. And at this point of my tenure, it’s all about self-preservation. I am the ‘Pimp’ and this job is my ‘Bitch’. I control its impact on my existence, not the other way around. I know how and when to play police for the instances that truly call for a genuine police response. Otherwise it’s go through the motions till I get to the finish line.

You know nothing about me past your ignorant inferences gleaned from my posts on this blog. But I guarantee you I’ve been around long enough to know how things work around here and I’m smarter than the average bear.

I’ve also been around long enough to know that anybody who refers to themselves by title and signs off on posts with said title - like “Ranger” - is the quintessential handjob.
