Call Takers Assist Fetality

This isn't the first time we've heard about this...and we've experienced it firsthand once or twice:
  • Chicago police issued a community alert on Monday night to warn residents about a series of robberies that unfolded across the North Side on Sunday evening. But one Old Town resident says a 911 operator did not connect the dots between her boyfriend’s “suspicious person” call and the quickly unfolding robbery spree.

    [...]

....an Old town woman says her boyfriend got an earful when he called 911 to report four teenagers acting suspiciously in an alley near their home as the robberies were breaking out.

“Four teens ran down the street yelling and acting suspiciously,” the woman said in an email. But when he gave those details to a 911 operator around the time of the third robbery, the call taker gave him a lecture instead of a police response.

“The dispatcher told him, “Sir, running and yelling isn’t a crime,’ and she refused to send any officers,” the woman said.
Anyone want to guess why the call taker refused to send cops? We know they're supposed to get pertinent info, but the decision to expend police resources isn't theirs to make - it's the job of the street supervisors. You see, we don't have the luxury (and haven't had for decades) of that phrase we used to hear daily on the radio - "Fire Refused." Nowadays, the dispatchers say "Advise Fire."

Eight or nine time out of ten, a car is getting dispatched to everything and is the direct cause of backlogs. That one time out of ten it isn't is usually for anonymous third party complaints where no victim is on observed on scene or traffic complaints where the car is traveling fast enough to be out of District by the time it's dispatched.

But if OEMC would like to alter this policy properly and get the Department on board, especially in light of the consistent non-prosecution of violent crimes/felonies by Crimesha, we're willing to get behind their efforts.

UPDATE: Post clarified to differentiate between call takers and dispatchers

I work in a district that has to use the JISC for kiddie arrests. Most of the time its ok. There is one Sgt there who argues with us all the time. It took my team a bit but we realized he argued with us when the kids were of the same demographic he is. Never when they are of a different background. Why is that?

Weren't police dispatched to halsted and Addison for a "disabled pigeon?" I think I saw the computer screen here at SCC. I'm just glad I'm retired and can be amused at all this bullshit from my place in wisconsin. You guys have to live with this, though. Remember, go home with as many holes in your body as you had when you went to work !!!

Upon being hired OEMC would not perform interviews in order to properly pick out quality candidates, instead they depended on a computerized test. Not until recently that they changed their process of hiring!! That explains some of the unprofessional ghetto mess up in there aaand also the reason for their recent shortage in man power.

Like I said “some” of these dispatchers are on power trips, they need to be reminded that they are NOT the mf police!!!

Zone 8 1st watch dispatchers are pretty darn amazing!!

Then over here how can this be a bad thing;

Why isn’t the mayor the governor and all the rest of the elected criminals talking about this praising the President of the United States of America for getting people back to work? Simple answer they are Democrats they are all about everything wrong with United States of America living here in the most corrupt city state county in the United States of America makes them do less!

I once had one of these dip shits refuse to send a car when I saw a junkie walking down the street and made a suspicious person call in Sauganash. Even when I told her I spent 35 years on the street and saw more junkies then Carter has pills. I guess this dumb bitch thought we have hordes of hypes walking around Sauganash during the day like the fucking walking dead.

She finally forced me into pulling the "peering into windows" card. Who knows if she sent anyone.

If anyone in this shithole had 1/2 a brain they'd know to send a car when a veteran cops say's theres a suspicious person walking around up to no good. Believe me after decades of seeing these creeps they may as well have a neon sign on their fore heads spelling "C-R-I-M-I-N-A-L" but they are more concerned with protecting the rights of junkie burglars/package thieves. We know when someone doesn't belong in our neighborhood and theres only a couple left worth protecting thanks to these cock sucker Demokrat's..

In 016 we Love seeing cop cars.

We are overwhelmed with bullshit police calls, same as the Chicago fire department where assholes use the ambulances for a transport for I got a cold, I don’t feel good nonsense like this waste of time, remember when the Chicago fire department bought the ambulances that were basic life support then I had to make them all advanced life support same amount of money got to bring those Costs up. Should the Chicago Police Department responded to absolutely every call fire still can refuse Maybe we should have vehicles available maybe a Nissan rental vehicles wait we already rent those put civilians in there let them respond to calls for service that maybe bullshit don’t know how to go to sort that out but I’m sure are brilliant mayor can figure something out.

A little common sense goes a long way. Dispatch fucked up and apparently dropped the ball on this one. Instead of lecturing citizens making legit calls, how about dispatchng a squad car out and the responding officers can decide if any action needs to be taken. Cutting off a citizen at the knees when they're calling us is reprehensible and unprofessional.

On the news last night, guy from out of town, staying in a downtown hotel, has a stroke. He calls 911 and after being switched around, he gets a “Fire” call taker, who refuses to send him help, until he “helps himself”, by giving her his address! Guy gave the name of the hotel but had to put up with that bullshit for 16 minutes until he was sent help! A miracle he didn’t die, but brain was damaged! He did remember his stay in Chicago and the people who played God over him. It was painful to listen to how he was treated! Big money, AGAIN!

The call taker isn't wrong by saying running and yelling isn't a crime. Normally it isn't. But in an area where a community alert has been issued, such an incident should receive police response. The problem is many of those community alerts are not communicated to OEMC, at least not to those on the front line (the call takers). I worked at OEMC for many years. The lack of communication between CPD and OEMC, and within OEMC, is appalling.

I am not going to be politically correct.

I called 911 in spring of 2019. I reported that there was a group of black kids. Age 9 to 16 who were walking around during school hours. The call taker argued with me. Asking: "how do you know they are not being home schooled?" "maybe they are all sick", "this is not against the law". Finally I asked for a supervisor and then she said sure she will dispatch the call for service. A few hours later I check to see if the call was dispatched on the pcad. Nope. It was not.

On another occassion I called 911 to report that two male blacks entered the Subway restaurant and both had black ski hat masks that covered their whole face and both had gloves on. It was in late April and the temperature was in the 60's. Same bullshit. The dispatcher did not send out the call.

If the dispatcher feels you are picking on minorities. I mean people of color. Then they are not going to dispatch the call.

I don’t call 911 often, but when I do sometimes I get lucky, sometimes I don’t.
I don’t think Call takers are knowledgeable about the Zones they serve, particularly the Beat problems. Merely taking a call and making their own decision to forward the call to Dispatcher. This was suppose to be changed a long time ago, addresses and locations were to indexed with Call History. Our 911 system is too fvcked from continued appointment of hacks to run it ever since1400 w Madison opened up.

Call takers are doing what they’re told. Lot more blame should go one the supervisor.
Roaming Chicago Valued Feral keeps the Beat busy. They know as well as us, that a car can’t and won’t be dispatched for everything.
It’s also why the community uses the expedited method...’he gotta gun’ preface.
Some, not all call takers are rude and very much uninterested particularly in certain Zip Code Zones, pretty much having callers go through hoops with bs questions and lecturing hoping you just hang up out of frustration.

If your lucky enough to get car dispatched, it’s going to be least least priority and held as long as possible until the designated Beat car is up and available.

And why not assign tact and Sgts when there’s a RAP?

I had the exact same thing happen to me when I called 911 about someone not my neighbor, (Beverly) looking over my neighbors fence in the alley, and generally just standing in the alley. I believe what the call taker said was "Sir, how is that suspicious behavoir." This went back and forth until I told her I was the police. Then she shut up and sent the car.

Maybe these dispatchers/call takers get burned out and cynical after hearing bullshit over the years too. How many "my 12 year old won't get up for school"... "my 18 y.o. won't pay no rent so he need to be put out"... " 4 male blks on the corner ALL selling drugs and they ALL got guns" on & on & on from clueless callers before even they start doubting the legitimacy of any crime being called in. I WISH some of the call takers were better gatekeepers and shut those asshole calls before they even made it to be dispatched. Why put it on the P.O. to code it or the Supervisor? Shut the idiots down early. Some people call for EVERYTHING that THEY think is illegal or should be investigated. Someone needs to create tighter standards as to what is allowed to be dispatched or considered a "Police matter"

I called 911 in 1999. Told them a man was convulsing on the ground and spitting up. 911 refused to send an ambulance because I would not diagnose the problem. I responded that I am not a doctor. The call taker/dispatcher still refused. I told the 911 employee, that since the injured was the same race as her, and she didn't care, neither did I. Her demeanor changed, but I refused to give her the address and hung up and went to work. They tried calling me back fifty times, but I did not answer. Oh well, I tried. Blame that death on 911.

Too many hoodrats at OEMC because of dum-dum
Daley, Cortez Trotter and all the usual rev'runs,
alderfools and communerty agitators.

"Arra peoples an' folkses needs them
good city jobs an' shit..."

And they absolutely get off on flexing
at The Police...

They're told during training that THEY are in charge
and that The Police are supposed to do what they say.

That's why there's so much friction.
They have no idea of their actual place
in the public safety hierarchy.

Heh...

We remember when a couple of coppers from 009
got up on the floor during the soft roll-out/
transition from COS (circa '95?) and were chasing
a dispatcher around so they could have a nice chat
about the above mentioned stinkin' thinkin'.

That was when the city pulled the contract security
and put a P.O. on the door.

Not to protect against intrusion by Dude and others
but to keep The Police from paying personal visits
to "protest" unruly dispatchers and call-takers.

Heh...

Dispatchers and call-takers are exempt from
taking harsh and merciless disciplinary licks...
Those are reserved only for Policemen.

"We can't mean to the poor civilians"

OEMC is an off limits safe space.

Not That the younguns on the job may know about or remember this but about 12-15 years ago, an old retired guy (and I
Kinda think he was CPD) called 911 on a couple really suspicious blacks in his alley, going in/out the gates and the yards. The 911
operator asked what this white guy meant they be suspicious, and basically hung up on him. If I remember this story right, they did
in fact get into his home and killed him.
Sad to see that this kinda stuff by 911 is still going on. Probably even more so with this SJW political climate!

I live in 016. The times I’ve had to call for a “suspicious person” the second i say “black male” the call taker has acted like i accused her son of roaming my alley at 4am with a backpack and hoodie on a 75 degree night. Another time my neighbor caught 3 guys looking into my yard at midnight. Took the plates. Called it in. Call taker deemed it No police response necessary. Family member is a dispatcher and had tac come by. They knew the car and plates. Same guys robbing people in 16/17 for a year. Told us to keep calling. We did. Usually no response. A year later those same guys robbed the gas station on montrose and Narragansett and killed a kid.

Great benefit party held and Freddy V. probably made more from the benefit than if he was not on suspension. And Freddy would have beat some ass.
