Seventeen More

  • Chicago police announced Thursday 17 more confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the number of cases in the department to 151.

Of the cases, 144 are officers and seven are civilian employees, police said. Four officers who previously tested positive have recovered and are back on duty.
Is there a total number of officers currently hospitalized? Because that might give everyone an idea of how serious the illness is. And the projected rates of return for recovering officers?

If there’s a 2% death rate that means a total of 3 out of 151 will die. Let’s hope that 2% death rate is off and something like .5% or lower is the more accurate figure.

Does anyone have a number for those that HAD it, got sick to varying degrees and recovered? No, and until we have that number, all the other numbers are just numbers. The effects of the shutdown will be far worse than the effects of the virus.

The Supe email says the dept has 198 positive. 144 sworn and 7 civilian. Which, doesnt make sense to me. Who and where are the other 47? If not sworn, then civilian right? Or was the email a typo.

Better planning could have reduced those numbers significantly.

none hospitalized. a bunch are asymptomatic (nothing going on).

From our very own Supe:
“As a reminder, those who had brief, casual contact with an infected individual are not considered at great risk of transmission, and for most people, the illness is generally mild and can be safely managed at home. Should individuals exhibit any symptoms, we are asking you to stay home, check in with CPD’s Medical Section and consult your physician.”

Death rates are fluctuating depending on area, due to age, previous health problems.

NY is running at 161,000 infected, 7,067 dead, which is a little over 4% dying.
Illinois has 16,422 infected, with 528 dead which is a little over 3% dying.
Until blood testing is ramped up, showing who has had it, the numbers are skewed
and probably not accurate. Though the US did not shut down til Jan 31,
when China finally said it was human to human infecting, there is thinking that
this PROBABLY came to the US via visitors from China and Europe in early
December...and lots more people have already had this very contagious disease.

Now we know why OEMC got split up to Madison and to the alternate response center on Lexington. Due to the passing of the OEMC employee. RIP sir. So now did they quarantine everyone that worked with that man? How many of those OEMC workers are now asymptomatic? The officers at the academy in the 311 taking calls are not spread far apart as they are in the gym. Of course no one cares. Seems like they only give a shit about u when your deceased. Those officers should be able to work from home.

Well if it was me, and assuming I survived, I'd be back some time around Holloween.

It would also be important to note how many have pre-existing conditions.

Just because you have it doesn't mean it was the cause of death.

Where are the autopsy results?

Why isn't the department doing a better job of identifying these individuals at the district level so that those who may have been exposed to them are aware of the possibility that they themselves have been exposed or possibly infected? Instead, all you hear are whispers and rumors.

There’s so much purposely manipulated information out there that it’s difficult to even determine how many in Cook County are currently still sick. Some say it’s 1500 sickly/recovered. with about 400 in a hospital beds waaaaaay less on a ventilator and about 140 related deaths MOSTLY the elderly and confined in assisted living home.

Sometimes you go along with the program and are able to wash hands in diluted soap (Ccok Co jail was ordered to provide soap to inmates first), keep a good distance from others, don’t touch anything, don’t touch others and still get something that may or may not be the Covid’s.

Mao Zedingdong LightLoafer and Chairman Jiang Bao Pigster doing their best to keep the most of the fear mongering going.
If you get it - you get it. If you don’t - you don’t.
Heck, nobody wants to be sick with the sniffles, seasonal allergy or a debilitating routine influenza strain.
But if you just keep your distance, don’t get involved with ignorant slobs of any sort and this will pass...soon.

But....if we don’t act now 40,000 polices will be hospitalized.
Stay Home - Stay Alive

What is going on in the 010th district. Gilmerito received a bunch of donated masks not long ago but only hands them out to supervisors and not the PO’s who are answering jobs. Great leadership, now go get me dispersals and blue cards.

That 2% doesn't account for health of that person... right? I figured it's only those with pre-existing conditions and general poor health that have died? (I could be wrong here, very little information on the topic)

Either way, from a secluded retiree, mask up and be safe!

There is absolutely 0 shame on the O’Hare 3rd Watch Tact Team which doesn’t leave the Tact Office or give the watch a hand with anything. So far 2 confirmed cases of Covid on 3rd Watch alone and these immature goofs don’t listen to their radios and never leave their office. It’s expected that the 1-2 foot officers in the terminals confront large groups alone against the homeless who camp out in terminals sometimes in groups of 5-10.Why even have a Tact Team?

And these a$$hole tact guys and gals are still playing the dope game. I guess numbers matter more than your fellow officers and bringing the virus home to your family. Discraceful!

Fellow officers do not let your guard down. Street coppers are the low man on the totem pole. Dispatchers, supervisors, exempts, politicians, media, most citiziens do not care if you get coronavirus. Protect yourself and your family. Hit the medical!
