Back in the 70's my friends and I would go fishing in the 'Dirty D', aka the Des Plaines River, in Hodgkins, under the I-55 Overpass near La Grage Rd, and that river was so polluted you wouldn't dare eat anything you caught in it. We basically went 'fishing' there to drink beer, screw around & shoot pellet guns. And occasionally we'd pull a Carp out. The only 'fish' that could exist in that chemical soup.
But at other times we'd catch 'something' that was so disfigured thanks to the chemicals & heavy-metals discharged into that river over decades, it seemed to be a Carp but had open sores and 'growths' all over it.
We didn't have Hazmat suits so with those we said f--k it and just cut the line.
But we NEVER caught, let alone landed, anything as hideous as what's in that photo (cringe)! No, for something like that we would've just Clubbed it in the head then buried it.
