There is nothing Tactical about these teams nowadays. Back when I came on (20+ years ago) Tact teams knew how to work and solve problems, execute search warrants, locate felony offenders, and take care of district problems at a moments notice. They also mentored the officers that the team Sgt would hand pick, if allowed by the upper brass to become good tact officers. Now all tact teams are by reverse seniority and the kids on them can't think for themselves without having to call for a supervisor to make a decision for them. Time to get rid of these teams and put the extra manpower back into patrol to answer the back log (RAP) calls. I always hated when these tact teams would go on the radio and say I need a paper car for this job. Mother F#$ker! You are the police and should handle the mess in your own back yard. Time to stop blowing of jobs just cause you wear jeans and a backwards baseball cap. And that goes for citywide units as well (I'm to good to write paper...)

At the risk of sounding like an old fart (only 53 and pulled the plug at 51) I remember wether pushing a beat car or on tact 2 things were certain. 1) if you were working on Christmas and wanted to be home for (especially kids) the people you worked WITH and FOR made sure it happened. 2) If you were on tact things were again worked out between teammates and bosses. Unless something ridiculous happened of course. New Years Eve different story. While on tact I don't remember one year that RDO wasn't cancelled for New Years and to be honest it was more fun at work! No we weren't excited about sneaking up on shithead for guns they were shooting at midnight but we were having our own party! Granted the vast majority of bosses then were awesome and had many many years on the job. Hell St. Jude had such great after parties attendance was never forced! But to be fair once the Jfed regime swept out all the people who actually knew how to run the department it pretty much was down hill thus resulting in my decision to leave. Had a great career and truly worked with some of the best coppers out there. Please stay safe everyone and get away from that craziness as soon as you're able.

Overwhelming majority of beat officers couldn't give a f... if all Tact's days off in 2021 were cancelled. Tact's in no position to cry about it because they're not on the watch. The contract is an agreement between the City of Chicago and Patrol/Beat Officers, not Tact.

From the file of WOW, saw a post yesterday about Old Timers taking time in their last few days and people calling them medical roll abusers. If you think this is appropriate you are either an idiot or meritorious boss.

Neither, actually. I'm just not a fan of crybabies who whine about things they did to themselves. You don't take days for missing training without being repeatedly reminded you have to go to training. It's a day of work. You can't just not go. I also despise stupidity. A great example of this stupidity is complaining that their retirement is being delayed until they make up the 1 day suspension. Unless you're not the police, you know that this suspension can be satisfied by 8.5 hours of comp time, which means their retirement isn't delayed by one second. The whiner posting about this situation made it seem like a horrible attack on some fine veteran officers. In reality, they did it to themselves, either through ignorance or arrogance, and the net effect of their punishment was minor. Use your brain instead of your feelings when you post.
