Demonized Residence?

If a bar gets out of hand, the City can revoke their business permits and liquor licenses, force the establishment to close, make them and their lawyer appear before a hearing officer and make them enact "reforms" involving hours of operation, on-site security, etc.

But what about residences?

  • A 13-year-old boy was fatally shot inside an apartment in the 6000 block of North Kenmore on Sunday, according to police and witnesses. Five other people have been shot at the same building since late May, including one just a few days ago. The other shootings occurred outside.

At about 8:18 p.m. Sunday, police responded to 6002 North Kenmore after a 911 caller reported a person shot inside an apartment. Officers found the 13-year-old with a gunshot wound to his head. He later died.

Investigators discovered one shell casing in the living room near the boy, but they did not immediately recover a firearm. However, at least one person told the police the boy shot himself. Detectives were working to determine if that was true.

[...] In the 11-year history of CWBChicago, our team has never seen a string of shootings as concentrated as those occurring at 6002 North Kenmore this year.

(side note - the gun had legs, as so many guns do)

One has to wonder what spirits haunt the grounds of 6002 to provoke this sort of evil. And what steps, if any, can the city undertake to expel said demons,

Make Law go back to prosecuting Drug and Gang House cases? Long time ago, Law and DoB did a pretty good job of digging out problem buildings.

Now? Well, who gonna call? RIP Harold Ramis

That area got cleaned up in the early 2000s. Loyola and another large slum lord has bought up much of that area. Loyola does not have the best of intentions for the area. They buy up swathes of land and sell it to be developed as affordable housing. Deconverted condos turned into Section 8 housing in an area that saw some hope for awhile. There were actually nice restaurants on Bryn Mawr and Granville for awhile- now all gone.. But thanks to progressive socialist alder people in just about every north lakefront ward (Manaa-Hoppenworth, Hadden, Clay and Martin) they’ve managed to do what most people couldn’t do- turn lakefront property into crime ridden shitholes. Each one of their wards has upticks in crimes rarely seen before (homicides) since they took over. But their idiot constituents keep voting for them.

The city has a Troubled Building Initiative wherein an alderman can bring the city down on recalcitrant owners who operate problematic buildings. They do this by bringing city inspectors in to inspect the property as only city inspectors can. They may end up in Housing Court where a receiver is appointed to restore order to the property. The process works if the local alderperson agrees to do so. One also has to wonder what was behind the change of the top bosses of the 020th and 024th districts?

The city's Troubled Building Initiative was designed to obtain compliance from recalcitrant property managers who operate problematic buildings. However it requires an alderperson willing to initiate the process.

the prosecutors for the gang and drug house ordinance cases did not want to go to 400 w Superior because it was too far from 30 n Lasalle and they did not like the fact the Administrative Law Judges made them actually prosecute these cases. They started filing these cases in Housing Court where they only deal with the building court cases and ignore the criminal aspect of the case. Cases that were resolved in 60 days at Ad hearings remain on the Housing Court docket for years and are then settled for a minor fine or nonsuited

Is this a rental property? Under all the wacky laws Illinois and Chicago has for renters rights it will be interesting to see if the owner of the building gets sued for not providing safe and secure environment in this building. God knows it is damn near impossible to evict people from a residence under current laws and the current political administration.

This is not an epidemic but rather the product of one individual that begin coming around, bringing his issues along with it, to the area around that time. That individual has now moved into the area. Remove the individual, remove the problem.

The one in 024 was a putz and got moved because he doesn't know how to deal with neighborhood leaders, clergy etc., 020 was a flip flop of north and south siders. Ther is no dealing with the progressive alderpersons, you just sit back and let them destroy their communities because they hate the police and don't want them to do their jobs. They complain they need more officers in their wards etc. because its a good sound bite, but in reality they don't want the police to actually do their job.

Whomever wrote this is correct! I used to live a block from that address. Beautiful neighborhood, and right on the lake. Thorndale Beach is a block away. I retired and moved the hell out of Illinois. The politicians ruined this neighborhood, but I blame all the idiots who voted and continue to vote for them!
